Chapter nine
Dorian knew that wandering off by himself on a closed-off island filled with danger was a bad idea, and he couldn't help it. The nagging feeling was eating away at his curiosity, as he must know where the past led, despite the fact there were numerous ways of getting lost on the damn island. He then eventually looked up to see the trees hugging each other closely, feeling no sunlight beaming on his face. As he walked further on, he felt something watching him. That was when he felt an actual presence somewhere and looked all around.
"Who's there?!" he asked all around.
The echo of his voice sounded off all over the forest, and that was when someone appeared behind him. When he turned around, he jumped, scaring the bats out of hell from him.
"Who are you?" he asks, his voice uncertain.
"Who might you be?" the person asks. "This path is off limits."
"Off-limits?"
"Yes, it's off limits. No human is supposed to be here because it's dangerous this way."
"I'm half-human," Dorian tells them.
"Half-human? Is that even possible?" the person asks.
Dorian ignores their question and asks them, "Who are you anyway?" The person went silent and didn't say their name. They shouldn't reveal themselves because it would cause a lot of trouble on the island. Despite the consequences, they tell Dorian their name.
"My name is Chiasmus O'Brien, but call me Chi."
"Chiasmus? That's a unique name."
"It is, and I hate the meaning. It doesn't have a name or meaning but has a definition. I, unfortunately, can't change my name because it's against the rules under Tyrant's reign. His reign here has lasted for a long time. Heck, I can't even leave this damn hell hole, and I need to so I can change my name and have a new identity."
"Why do you want to change your name so badly?"
"Trust me, boy, you don't want to know."
All of a sudden, there was a loud shriek, and Chiasmus looked at Dorian. "Now, what is your name, boy?" "Dorian. Dorian Black." "No, it can't be," the man whispers. "Is something wrong?" Dorian asks. "You need to get off this path immediately." "Why?" "Get out of here now! You can't be down here." "Just tell me where the path leads, and then I'll be out of your way." "No, you can't know where this leads to. It's prohibited." "If this trail is prohibited, why is it here in the first place?" "Because it is. Now, boy, you need to get out of here before they come." "Who are these 'they?'" Dorian asks. "Trust me, boy, they are going to be here soon, and if they find you, you are dead meat." "Just tell me, and I won't tell anyone." "If you knew who these people are, you wouldn't be alive. Now, get out of here before they find you."
Dorian immediately left, not knowing what would happen in the next few minutes.
