Chapter 2: The Contract Signing

Racheal POV:

A few days later, we're at the EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, FL, in Tony's makeshift office. It was me, Tony, Cody, both my dads and Ben, who only wanted to be here to meet the guy cause he couldn't wait. Now, we were waiting for Sam. I did tell him to message me when he gets here and if he gets lost or someone stops him and causes him trouble. A minute passed before we all heard my phone go off with a song that I found that I thought would fit my new friend Sam, who I intended to recommend this to. I answer the call and smile from what he tells me.

"Ok, good, where did you park?" I asked him, then a minute later said, "Alright, I'm on my way."

I then hang up the call before turning toward the faces intently watching me.

"He's here, just needs to help finding his way around the building," I informed them while standing to go meet him.

"Ok, I'll go with you," Ben stated, which did not surprise me at all.

I sighed and rolled my eyes as we exited the office. A minute later, we reached the west wing parking lot of the stadium, where we saw the soon-to-be newest member of our roster standing by his car.

"Oh my God, at last!" Ben excitedly grinned, looking slightly starstruck just like a fan would.

"Keep it together, fanboy," I told him with that slightly big sisterly tone of mine.

Although I must admit, I always enjoy seeing that he is still a wrestling fan at his core just like me. I hope he never loses that.

"Sam!" I called out.

The Highflyer glanced in our direction and smiled as I waved at him. He walks toward us while wearing a backpack to meet us halfway. I politely smiled as I approached each other while holding my hand out.

"Welcome to Florida!" I greeted him as we shook hands. "I'm so glad you could make it!"

"I'm glad I finally got my invitation," he half-joked, which I chuckled at.

"And this is my brother, Ben, the one who recommended you," I introduced.

"Which I'm very proud of," He stated before holding his hand out to shake as well. "It's great to finally meet you, and I'm glad you accepted the offer."

Sam accepted the handshake but gave him this look as if hit by realization.

"Likewise, and thanks for recommending me."

"My pleasure," Ben nods.

Sam then glanced back at me.

"You never told me Daniel Dalton is your brother," he mentions out of slight surprise.

My brother also grew surprised while glancing at me, which I chuckled at.

"Wanted to keep some suspense," I just shrugged.

"I'm glad to see you know me as well," Ben stated with flattery.

"You kidding?" Sam grinned. "I've followed your career since you were a kid in your dad's promotion. You were the craziest and coolest kid I've ever seen."

Ben laughed with more flattery and disbelief.

"Thanks, man. Those were fun times too," he grinned. "Anyway, we should get going. Don't wanna keep everyone waiting."

"Lead the way," Sam nodded.

The three of us begin walking through the stadium, all smiling and feeling great about this day. Of course, upon discovering that he was a fan of his, Ben had to keep being a fanboy with him as we walked.

"By the way, forgive me for asking, but I don't suppose you've seen any of my matches in NXT?" He asked while I rolled my eyes.

"Hell yes, especially the ones you've had both with Ricochet and against Darkling," he nodded.

"Aww, yes," Ben grinned. "Some of the best in my career there."

"Those are some of my favorites too," I added, especially since I didn't want to be left out of the conversation.

"Is he coming here too?" Sam asked.

"Not for most of the year, sadly," I answered. "He's still contracted with them."

"He will be, though," Ben added, "just don't tell anyone. We don't wanna cause issues for him while he's still there."

"I understand," he nods.

"Of course, I'm sure he's the one causing issues for them instead," I noted, which Ben laughed at.

"What do you mean by that?" Sam asked.

"He's a bit of a prankster, and he doesn't like Vince but with good reason," I informed.

"Yeah, but don't get us started on all that crap," Ben then groans.

"Oh, I'm sure all of you guys have plenty of reason for not liking him," Sam understood, causing us to laugh again.

"Anyway, there's the office," I noted while nodding toward the room ahead of us, continuing to walk there along with my brother and new friend.

"Honestly, I am excited that you're joining our team," Ben said. "I would love to face you in a match at some point."

"Honestly, it would be an awesome match," Sam said excitedly. "I hope we can. It would be a dream match, for sure."

'He looks adorable when he looks like that,' I thought as I looked over at him. 'Honestly, I want to take a picture of it so I can always look at it more often. The excitement and the enthusiasm, the spark in his pale blue eyes.'

My train of thought was interrupted by the office door opening as we began entering the office. However, I was saddened by the lost look. I hope I do get a photo of him like that someday.

"Darby Allin," Cody greets first once we all enter the office. "It's a pleasure to see you again, especially here." He shakes hands with the highflyer.

"Likewise, and thank you for getting back to me," he responds while accepting the handshake.

"I'm sorry it took so long."

"I'll say..." I murmured, but it was loud enough for them to hear, earning a snicker from Ben and narrowed eyes from Cody.

"Anyway, this is the man behind all of this, Tony Khan," he begins introducing everyone as the boss himself rises from his chair.

"Thanks for choosing us," Tony says while shaking hands with Sam. "It's exciting to have fresh new faces in the wrestling world come sign with us."

"I'm honored to be here," he proudly stated.

"And this, of course, is one of our partners and Ben's father, Carlton McFarland," Cody continues to introduce.

"Formerly known as 'Big Mac' Dyna Lowe," Sam nodded with a smirk. "I used to love your matches as a kid."

"I'm honored," Dad says as they shake hands as well. "After everything my kids here have shown me, I'm eager to start seeing some of your matches."

"Thank you, sir," he nods.

"And this is our other partner, Lorenzo D'Angelo," Cody then gestures to Papa.

"Nice to meet you, sir," Darby politely states with another handshake.

"Same to you, young man," he nods with a respectful smile.

"This is my birth father too," I noted.

"Oh, yes," Darby smiles. "She's told me about you, and I think it's great that you're doing this with her."

"Anything for my princess and the family that took her in," he smiles.

I blushed a little while Dad and Ben smiled.

"Well, now that we've all met," Tony speaks up, "let's get down to business, shall we?"

Everyone agreed as we returned to our seats around the table with Darby taking his across from Tony. The AEW president then opens up the business folder on the table and pulls out the printed contract for the newcomer.

"Here is the written agreement we have made for you," he begins while handing the paper to his new employee. "It's a standard three-year deal with a yearly sixty grand which can and will be increased depending on your work ethic, growth of popularity with the fans, all that good stuff."

I can tell he is intently listening while reading through the contract.

"I was also told that there would be creative freedom here," he points out.

"Absolutely, one of our standing principles," Tony proudly declares while Ben, who is sitting closest to him on the other side of me, scoots closer to point out the right section to him.

"Right there, pal." Darby follows his finger to the part that discloses how AEW wrestlers have full creative control over their in-ring characters, as well as input in their storylines.

"And once I sign this, when and how do I start?" He asked after another moment of studying his contract.

"Unfortunately, we're fully booked for our first upcoming event, Double or Nothing," Tony regrettably stated. "However, we do have room for our next event in June called Fyter Fest. We'll be happy to feature you there. We just need to discuss your opponent."

I see him contemplating it for a moment before giving a suggestion.

"Well, me and the Iron Angel here have discussed a little dream match if that's possible?" He gave a hopeful glance to Ben, who grew slightly disappointed.

"Sadly, I'm already booked for something. We kinda planned ahead for mine."

Tony then interjects.

"We could switch some things around to where you two collide at at least one of our events, but I'm afraid won't be Fyter Fest."

"I do, however, agree that his first opponent should be somebody well known," Ben advises. "Because right now, not too many people know who he is besides a handful of online indie fans; but if you put him in the ring with someone the fans all know well, like a fan favorite or something, and give 'em a good... 15 to 20-minute match or so, I guarantee fans will learn REAL quick just who this guy is. Could be a great way to set up a potential future star here..."

I can see the flattery on Darby's features while the room grows intrigued. I can certainly feel my own anticipation building as I ponder what his first match could do and who his first opponent could be.

"He does have a point," Dad acknowledged. "I've seen it happen in Iron Horse, and other promotions too."

Everyone seems sold on the idea, especially Darby himself, thinking of a good top name to be his first opponent. I then gaze across the room as a light bulb goes off in my head.

"How 'bout you, Cody?"

All eyes turn to me while widening with gleeful shock.

"You did say he caught you by surprise, and you're not booked for anything on Fyter Fest last time I checked," I continued. "So, how 'bout it, seeing what you can do with him and catching others by surprise?"

The excitement in the room silently builds as they seem to love the idea. The others turn to Cody as they await his response. He appears seduced by the idea as his eyes switch back to Darby.

"I'd be honored if you're up for it?"

Everyone then glances back to Darby, who can only smirk with wicked eagerness.

"How can I say no? Let's do it."

He then immediately takes a pen and signs his name on the dotted line, officially becoming All Elite.

"Welcome to AEW," Tony says on behalf of the room, leading to everyone shaking hands with their new signed wrestler.

Ben pats him on the shoulder before Darby glances at me, smiling with excitement and flattery, which I return. Somehow, I just knew he would join us as soon as I saw him at that event back in January. He just seemed like such a perfect fit for this brand. I cannot wait to see his match with Cody, and everything else he has in store for the future of this company.

"Now, before we let you go off to celebrate just yet," Tony continues, "there's one other thing we have for you, something Racheal herself has brought up for you."

Darby shoots me a curious look as I start to grow bashful. I'm excited about this next part, but so nervous at the same time.

"Such as?" He asked.

I take a breath while remaining professional, doing my best to keep my composure as I reveal what I have for him.

"Well, if you're searching for a new theme song to use, I may have a suggestion." His interest appears again while I continue. "You see, we all have some connections to people in the music industry, me and Ben in particular, which includes some small-time artists yet to be discovered. One of these groups has a song that they allowed me to download on my phone, which I think would be fitting for you."

I pull the song back up on my phone before placing it on the table in front of him and letting it play. I watch as he intently listens to the song, mesmerized by the way he vibes to it. I can easily tell that the song is speaking to him in the way that every theme should to the individual it represents, the way that Voices in My Head speaks to Randy Orton, or even the way Awake and Alive speaks to my brother; the way Zypher's songs speak to him. The right song with the right person always makes for a match made in heaven, just like a perfect moment I can capture with my camera. It all comes together to create the perfect storm. It works so beautifully; speaks miles for the person using it, and this particular song just seemed to fit with him and his character unlike any other that I know. Judging from the wondrous look on his face, I would have to say that he felt the same way, letting the lyrics and the rhythm entice him, seducing him like a creature that uses dancing to attract a mate. It was so beautiful to watch him listen to it for the first time, one of those moments where I wish I had my camera. Then again, perhaps this is a moment that is only special to me when witnessed with my own two eyes, something that cannot be reached through a camera lens.

"It's perfect," Darby says once the song ends, my heart skipping a beat.

"You really think so?" I asked while growing bashful again.

"I do," he nods. "It just... it speaks levels to me. I can't believe how good it is... Thank you."

"You're welcome," I shyly replied, feeling so proud of myself while almost not believing that he loved it so much.

"Splendid to hear," Tony nodded. "Now that we've settled that, we will contact the band to reach an agreement and make that your official AEW theme. Until then, that concludes our business for the day. Good day to you, Darby Allin, and thank you again for choosing us. We are excited to have you."

"Thank you you too, all of you," he respectfully smiles. "I can already tell this was the perfect choice for me."

Everybody shakes hands with him once again before me and Benjamin agree to show him around. We introduce him to the new colleagues he has yet to meet, then reunite him with others he already knew from the Indies. It was interesting as he seemed like such an outsider; and yet, fit in so well with this fresh new environment for the wrestling world. After showing him around, we then decided to take him out for lunch to celebrate. He and my brother form a quick bond, especially when discussing topics regarding movies and filmmaking. I knew Ben would be fascinated to know that he studied that while wrestling just like him. Honestly, aside from having an amazing match someday, I can also see them being a great tag team somewhere down the line.

However, even as they chat, he keeps glancing at me with a glint of flattery in his eyes. I know I've done so much for him in such a short time, maybe even way more than he expected, and probably more than I needed. I can imagine how shocked and grateful he must feel. In all honesty, he deserves it too. The best part about it is that I get to be there for every step of his journey, capturing every perfect moment he has, immortalizing those moments with my camera, and all the while having the best seat in the house for it all.

Darby's P.O.V:

I could not believe she did all that for me. First, she gets Cody to get back in touch with me about signing, then gets me a match against him which is mind-blowing enough, and on top of it all, she finds me a new theme song to use, a song could that not be more perfect for me. There aren't enough words to describe how grateful I am for all she has done, but I can't help but wonder why. What is it that is making her do all of this for me? Is she really just that good of a friend or is it something about me? So many thoughts and questions are running through my mind after all that's happened today. It's almost hard to believe just how much has changed in the past few months, especially because of her.

Just a few months ago, I never even knew her. Now, I feel like she's one of my closest friends. Whatever her reasons are, I can easily tell just how genuine a human being she is. She's the kind of friend you can hold onto for life and she'll remain loyal no matter what. I hope we do stay connected like that. Once you find people like that, it's hard to imagine life without them. I would even consider asking her out if I wasn't married. I will say that whoever she does wind up with, they better treat her right. She deserves someone as good to her as she will no doubt be to them. If not, then I'll have no problems teaching them some manners, especially with my skateboard, even though I'm certain both her dads and her brother would likely beat me to it.

Whatever the case is, it makes me grateful to have her in my life, about as much as it does to now be a part of AEW. I have only just signed here and already, so many great things are happening. I can only imagine how many more great things are bound to occur. I'll likely be able to pay back that loan in full before we even go to a weekly program. The possibilities here really do seem endless. I cannot wait to see what it holds in store.

After we got everything done, I headed back to my hotel for the time being to call up Priscilla, wanting to give her the news. It didn't take long at all before she answered.

"Hey, babe! How'd it go?" Her voice is laced with excitement.

"It went perfectly. I am officially an All Elite Wrestler," I proudly stated.

"Yay!!!" She playfully says, causing me to laugh. "That's so cool! I'm proud of you, baby."

I thank her before she asks about when I start.

"It won't be until their second pay-per-view event, but guess who my opponent is going to be?"

She asks, "Who?" Which I gleefully grin before revealing.

"Cody Rhodes..."

"Oh my God! Are you serious?!" I can hear the shock and excitement in her voice.

"Damn straight," I almost laugh.

I can still hardly believe it myself.

"Holy shit... they must've really been impressed by you," she happily says.

"That and I had a good advocate," I mentioned with a smirk.

"What do you mean?" She asked with curiosity.

"Miss Racheal came through for me yet again; and not only did she recommend the match, she found a theme song for me that's honestly perfect," I informed, imagining the look on my wife's face.

"For real?! Damn, that's some advocate!"

"Yeah, eat your heart out, Paul Heyman," I joked, causing her to laugh.

"She's doing a lot for you," she noted. "I'm starting to wonder if I should be jealous..."

I laugh with an eye roll as I can hear the smirk she has.

"Nah, there's no need, she's not like that," I quickly assured her just to be safe. "You'd like her a lot, honestly, and you'll be surprised by who her brother is, too."

"I'm guessing you're not gonna say who until I come down there, huh?" I laugh a little evilly as she sighs with defeat. "Well, I am grateful for everything she's done for my baby, and I couldn't be happier for you."

"Thanks, babe," I smile before remembering her schedule. "Anyway, I'm sure you're back on the road now. I just wanted to give you the good news."

"I appreciate that. I'll call you when I get there. I love you!"

"I love you too."

We each send a smooch through the call before hanging up. I then decide to take a quick nap to rest up after all the travel and everything before I tackle my first official day on the job. I close my eyes with a smile as I think about my new future with AEW, especially with some of the people there.

This is going to be one hell of a ride and I can't wait!
