Chapter 1: It Started with a Photo

A/N: A new story I made I hope y'all please comment and like it. The story cover was made by  Villalba376

January 2019...

I am currently on my way to a show for Northeast Wrestling to help search for talent for the upcoming brand-new promotion, All Elite Wrestling. The man I am accompanying on this journey is none other than executive vice president and long-time family friend Cody Rhodes. It feels great to be by his side again, especially for a new company after all that has happened this past year. One of the people we'll be scouting is a man my brother recommended. He is a huge fan of his and thinks he can be a great addition to our new home. I may not be into participating in fighting, but I love watching and being in the crowd, feeling the excitement. I also brought Bruno, my Rottweiler, with us on this trip.

As we sat in the front row waiting for this guy to make himself known, I took pictures of the crowd, the arena, and even Cody himself, who just laughed at my antics. We took some together as we waited for our guy.

"I hope your brother is right about this guy," Cody stated. "I met him a few years ago, and he seemed like just a crash test dummy who takes gnarly bumps."

"Well, surely he's improved since then," I assured him with a strong sense of hope. "Besides, we know Ben knows his wrestlers. So, this guy must be something special."

"I know, so we'll see how he does. I know if anything, we'll get a look at lots of great talent here," he eagerly notes.

"True," I agreed.

After a while, our guy came out. I was shocked by his looks, and I started taking some pictures. When he went past me, he stopped and looked straight at me, my mind blank for a bit before I quickly snapped out of it and took a quick picture of his face. He gave a small smile as I did, which I don't know if I got or not. I hoped I did.

Then, he noticed Cody next to me as Cody nudged me.

"Having a fun staring contest with the guy?" He joked.

I shook my head and laughed.

Darby got into the ring, still looking a little shocked that Cody was there. At least to me, it would seem like it. Then, I can see him snap out of it and get in the zone, and I start snapping pictures, capturing the moments.

As the match went on, it became clear how he was. I heard about it, but I didn't believe it. Even Cody spoke about how he was still a bit of a test dummy but did notice an improvement. Honestly, I couldn't agree more with how much he put his body through the entire match. Even Pentagon looks like a good fighter. He might be good enough to join AEW. I might have to bring it up later about him as well.

Sadly, Darby lost the match, but with the look on Cody's face, I can tell Darby made an impression. Honestly, I can't say I blame Cody. He is honestly interesting and different, which is good, and you can tell that Darby has a passion for the sport; which is what we need. After his match, we met up with him and officially introduced ourselves, and Bruno as well, who seemed excited to meet him as well.

"That was amazing, Kid," Cody complimented.

"I'll say," I said. "It was fun getting the pictures. I hope they turned out great, 'cause I wanna show the others."

"I'm sure they are amazing," Cody complimented, "They always are."

"Aww, thanks," I blushed.

"I am curious why you two are here?" Darby asked.

"We are looking for good wrestlers to join our company, and you were highly recommended by her brother," Cody replied.

"My little brother is a fan of yours," I stated, "and now I see why."

He smiled with a little giggle under his breath.

"I'm flattered, and dare I say I'm a fan of his as well, and yours too, of course," he said to Cody, causing us to laugh.

"I have to say, Darby, you've improved since we last met," Cody complimented.

"Well, I'll be honest, I had something to prove to myself this match, and I wanted to put in some extra effort."

"You certainly accomplished that," I noted before growing a mischievous smirk. "Plus, I must say, behind that face paint, you're quite Dashing."

Cody narrowed his eyes at me from that reference as Darby held in laughter.

"Seriously?"

"Hey, I mean, at least he's never hidden it under a mask," I continued to poke fun, causing him to roll his eyes before Darby chuckled.

"So, tell me about this new company," Darby says to bring us back on topic.

So we found an area where we could have some privacy to talk. Then, we began to talk, and I did have to explain about the whole dad thing since both my dads are part of the company. I didn't go into much detail, especially since I really didn't want to, nor did I find it necessary. Plus, I don't want to tell everyone my story, especially someone I just met, even though I do find him cute.

After we got done talking about the company and what we were hoping for, he looked excited about what he was hearing, especially when Cody got to the part about creative freedom being a major goal in this promotion. Cody gave him his phone to contact him for an answer and reminded him that we know he is under contract right now with this company and doesn't mind waiting if he wants to stay until it ends, that there will be a spot for him waiting until then. Given the look on his face, he was very ecstatic, it brought a smile to my face.

"Even though I ain't the person to talk to about hiring, I can give you my number as well," I suggested. "If anything, I would love to be friends. You seem like a cool dude," then I whispered loud enough for Cody to hear. "I can make sure that he and the other wackos hire you."

We both laughed as I saw Cody give me a mischievous glint. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Well, we better get going. You have our numbers," Cody said, "Think about it, don't agree right away. We don't want you to regret the discussion, but we would love for you to join us."

He smiled.

"I think I already made my choice," he said with confidence laced in his voice. "You had me at the creative freedom part."

I laughed.

"I understand, not a lot of companies give that, even for someone in my position," I said.

He seemed a little concerned and sympathetic by what that meant, but he didn't press, just nodded with what I assumed was understanding.

"Anyway, I'm sure you're wanting to get home and everything now," Cody guessed. "So, think it over, keep us updated, and we'll be in touch."

"You got it," Darby nodded before shaking hands with us. "Thanks for coming to the show."

"Thanks for the awesome match," I told him as we shook hands. "I hope to see more of them."

He seemed flattered by that remark, and I meant it. With a final nod to each other, Cody and I departed, leaving the Daredevil wrestler to himself as he watched us leave. I could feel his eyes on us as we walked, me in particular. I felt tempted to glance back at him but was too nervous. I just kept my eyes forward as we kept walking, making our exit from the arena.

"See? It turned out great!" I cheered, and Cody laughed.

"Okay, I admit it, your brother did well. I won't question his choices again," he promised, and I cutely giggled.

"That Pentagon guy was cool too," I mentioned. "He might make a good addition as well."

"Oh yeah, Kenny and the Bucks have their eyes on him too, and his brother," he revealed.

"His brother?" I curiously asked.

"That guy, Rey Fenix? That's his brother. He's had some great matches with Kenny; and with his brother, they're called the Lucha Bros."

"Oh, that's awesome!" I grinned with excitement. "I hope we get all of them, honestly."

"Me too," Cody agreed.

"Just imagine the kind of action we'll get with those guys," I also mentioned.

"It'll be a long, epic journey for everyone," he proclaimed as if able to see it before him clear as day.

Darby's P.O.V:

I spent the rest of the night thinking about the offer made to me by Cody Rhodes. Plus, I'll admit that the photographer, Racheal, was quite amusing, not to mention gorgeous. Don't worry, I'm not going to try anything, especially since I'm married and would never betray my spouse. I will say there was hardly a second throughout the rest of the night when I didn't think back on my talk with her and Cody. Just the mere thought of a brand-new wrestling company and the chance to be one of their homegrown talents was so alluring. I knew that was the place I wanted to be, even if I've been mostly groomed to go to NXT. No offense to them, but I don't want to be just another Cruiserweight on 205 Live or something. I sure as hell don't want to be told that I can't be the man that I want to be and do the things I want to do in a wrestling ring.

Again, the whole ordeal about 'Creative Freedom' is super enticing.

I know where I want to take my career. I believe in my heart and soul that All Elite Wrestling is the place for me to be. I don't want to have to wait either. I want to be with them as soon as possible.

The only problem is that I'm still under contract with NEW. Yes, there is a way for me to get out of it. It's just expensive. It's going to involve taking a huge chance on myself and having a long talk with my wife.

"You want to take out a loan?" My wife Priscilla asked as we sat in the living room of our home the next day.

I had called her last night after I got to my hotel for the night, having slept on the offer presented by Cody. I told her how things went and that I had some big news to share when I returned home. I explained everything, along with the risky tactic I had in mind.

"It's gonna cost twelve grand to get out of my contract with Northeastern," I continued after her justifiably concerned question. "That's more than what both of us can put together right now without drowning ourselves. This way, we won't have to give too much while staying on top of things."

"Maybe, but that's still a big risk, baby, especially if things don't turn out well with this new company, and we have to pay it back," she notably mentioned.

"I know this is a gamble, a major one at that," I sighed, "but I honestly think this could play out hugely."

Just then, my phone went off a few times, and I opened my phone to see that it was Racheal texting me. She sent me the photos she had taken of me during my match. I was almost speechless with how amazing they are.

"Damn, she did a good job with these," I said.

"Who did a good job on what?" I hear Priscilla ask as I look through the photos.

"The woman that Cody brought with him, she's a photographer, and she took some bomb ass photos," I told her before I started to show her what she sent me.

"You're right," she agreed. "She did amazing, capturing your handsome features and the lighting."

I sent her a thank you text and how they look amazing.

"I need to make sure she does all my photos honestly," I stated, "and she is really nice. I think you would love her."

"Really?" She asked.

"Yeah," I answered, "and her brother is a fan of me, and that's how they heard of me."

"Wow," she exclaimed, "That's cool."

"It is," I said, "From what she said, he is a wrestler, too. Which if that is the case, I wouldn't mind facing him in the squared circle at some point."

"I am curious why she isn't a wrestler," she wondered.

I shrugged.

"So, I guess you're going to take the loan and do it then?" She asked.

"Only if you are OK with it that is?" I asked back. "I don't wanna do this behind your back or anything."

"You sound like you wanna do it, so who am I to stop you?" She asked

"Thank you," I gave her a quick peck on the lips.

Before I could pull away, she pulled me while moaning. I knew what she wanted, and I wanted it too.

X

An hour later, I got out of the shower, redressed, and called to take out a loan so I could get out of the contract I was in. I then messaged Cody my answer and what to do and all.

A few days later after I got the loan, I called and paid off my contract, and Cody never answered my message, so I tried again. I'm trying my best to be respectful and not blow up his phone. I'm sure he is a busy man with a lot going on since he is helping to shape the new company, but it gets harder to wait with every message sent that gets unanswered.

On the other hand, I have been keeping in touch with my new friend, Racheal. After all, we are friends now; and I have to say, I can already tell she is a fun friend. I've been keeping her up to date with my status and she has sounded happy to hear about everything. When I informed her about the number of unanswered messages, she informed me how Cody is the worst about checking his phone and that I basically had to blow up his phone to get a response. I thought a message a day would be reasonable enough. Unfortunately, I still couldn't get a word back from him. So finally, Racheal messaged me stating that she would handle it, which both intrigued and concerned me.

Racheal's P.O.V:

During one of our work days at AEW's headquarters, I decided to go into Cody's office and get him to look at his phone already. I knocked on his door and received permission to enter a second later. He was on the phone when I entered, holding up his index finger to signal for me to hold on. It wasn't long at all before he concluded his conversation with the person on the call and hung up the phone.

"So, what's up?" He asked.

"Will you please get back to Darby?" I asked. "He has been trying to get ahold of you about joining AEW, but he hasn't been getting anything from you."

"Oh, I am sorry," he apologizes. "You know me, Racheal, I'm not the best when answering the phone."

"I know, it's what I told him," I said. "I also told him I would handle it, so talk to him before he finally gives up on this, which I don't want to happen. He is too good for us to pass up."

"I understand," he said. "I don't want to lose him either. I am going to get in touch with him now."

I smiled.

"Good," I said happily but skeptical. "I am going to stay and make sure you do."

"What?" he asked dramatically. "You don't trust me?"

"I do," I giggled, "but I've known you long enough and wanna make sure it gets done. We are lucky that he still wants to join."

He started to dial his number.

"Put him on speaker, please," I tell him as we hear the ringing.

After two rings he picked up, causing me to smirk once he said, "Hello?"

"Hey, Darby! It's Cody Rhodes," the EVP answered.

"See? I told you that I would take care of it," I told him with a smug attitude.

"Racheal?" We heard him ask.

"Yep, we're both here!" I cheered. "Finally got him to pick up the phone for once."

We hear Darby chuckle while Cody rolls his eyes at me.

"My apologies for prolonging the wait for so long," he quickly says. "I was told you had some good news for us regarding the offer, though."

"Yes, I bought out my contract with Northeastern and am now a free agent. With that said, I would certainly love to sign with All Elite Wrestling."

Cody grows a grin as I shoot him an 'I told you so' look.

"That's exciting news to hear," Cody responds. "So, I assume you're available for a meet-up to discuss the details of your new contract?"

"Yes, sir I am. How should we do this?"

"How soon can you get down to Jacksonville?" Cody questions.

"Jacksonville? Um... I think I should be able to make it in a few days."

"Alright, when you get here, our headquarters is the EverBank Stadium. We'll discuss everything then and we'll be sure to cover your hotel and everything for your stay here."

"I appreciate that, thank you very much," Darby replies, sounding happy and eager. "I look forward to seeing you all in a few days."

"Right back at ya," Cody nods with a smile, but Darby speaks again before he can hang.

"And Racheal?"

I perked up.

"Yes, Darby?"

"Thanks for the assistance."

That caused me to grin with a small blush.

"Anything for a friend. I'll see you soon."

"See you two then."

With that, he hung up on the call, concluding our conversation.

"YES!!!!," I chanted doing Daniel Bryan chant and gesture, making Cody laugh.

"You are excited about him coming on aren't you?" He asked with a smirk.

I laughed and blushed while calming down a bit.

"Sorry," I apologized, "He is really cool and we seem to get along real well."

"No need to apologize, Wolfie. I'm just as excited as you are."

I smiled at his nickname.

"And at least he has a friend or two in here as well."

"Yeah, and you know Benny Boy is going to be really happy we got him as well," I smiled.

"That he is," he said as leans back in his chair.

"I am going to go tell him the amazing news," I said getting up from my chair.

"Alright, you do that I am going to go talk to the others about it as well," he says.

I walked out closing the door behind me before pulling out my phone to contact my brother and see where he is at. He picked up after the first ring.

"Hey, Sis," he greeted before asking, "Whatcha need?"

"Wondering where you are," I answered with a smile. "I have news to tell."

"I am with Dad in the training room," he answers, seeming intrigued by what I have to say.

"Great," I said. "I can kill two birds with one stone if Cody didn't get to him already."

I started walking toward the training room.

"I will so you in a bit, little brother."

"Alright, see ya."

I hung up and started to pick up the pace a little. I passed some people who work here, nodding my head towards them. I went past Brandi, Cody's wife, as she was going towards her husband's office.

"Where are you going in such a hurry, Racheal?" She asked giggling.

"Going to see Ben and our dad," I answered. "He said they are in the training area."

"Ah, OK," she said before asking, "Got news to tell them?"

"Yes," I said excitedly. "We are finally getting Darby!"

She giggles at my excitement.

"So my husband finally got back to him?" She asked with a giggle.

"Yeah," I replied with a giggle of my own. "After I had to take matters into my own hands."

We both laughed at that statement.

"Well, I am glad," she responded. "I love my husband but sometimes, he gets on my nerves."

I laughed.

"That's what my mum says about my dad sometimes as well."

She chuckled.

"Well, I don't wanna keep you any longer," she says before pulling me into a hug which I returned.

"Alright, see you around," I said before pulling away from her.

Then, we went our separate ways. I started to jog towards the training room. After a few minutes, I finally arrived and when I entered, I saw Dad and Ben in the squared circle, talking to some of the people we already brought in.

As they were talking, I saw it as a perfect opportunity to take some pictures of them and the recruits. Getting different shots from different angles, I even got in the ring and got the vintage point of them.

"This is my daughter, Racheal," Dad introduced me. "She's a photographer and one of the best."

"Aww, thanks, Dad," I said with a smile.

"Hehe, she's signed here with us," Ben explained. "So, y'all will probably see her around a lot, annoying everybody like we're used to."

The people in the room chuckle while I narrow my eyes at him.

"No more than I'm sure you do." That draws more laughs.

Dad just shakes his head as this is typical playful banter for us.

"Anyway, I think that's good enough for now," Dad continues. "Y'all carry on and do your thing."

With that, the room went about their training while Dad led me and Ben outside the ring, giving us some privacy from everyone.

"So, what's this news you have?" Ben asked with curiosity.

I grow an excited grin as I could not wait for this.

"Guess who Cody just brought on the scene for AEW?"

"Um...." He thinks for a minute. "There's more than a few people that come to mind, to be honest."

"I'll give you a hint: he's someone you recommend for us," I smirked.

Then, a brief moment later, it appears to just hit him.

"Wait, you don't... no!"

I started to laugh before he continued.

"You two actually got him?!"

"He even bought out his own contact to sign with us," I grinned.

"Oh. My. God!!!" He got excited as I laughed. "Hell yes! I was so hoping he would join us!"

"Me too, especially after that match of his we saw. I wish you could've been there with us," I admitted.

"Ugh, don't remind me. I was just starting to get over my grief of having to miss that event," he grimaced while I laughed.

"Wait, which guy is this again?" Dad asked, which Ben answered.

"Darby Allin, that guy I showed you two who paints a skull over half his face?"

"Oh, yes, I remember. Holy shit!" Dad said with realization. "He'll be fun to have on."

"I agree, although it sure took Cody long enough to get back in touch with him," I rolled my eyes.

"Sounds just like his dad," our father lightly joked. "Dusty was the same way, God rest his soul. It used to bug the ever-lovin' shit outta me."

We both laughed at that notion.

We talked some more about the excitement of the recruits joining our AEW family. Then, I had to get back to work, getting more pictures of some of our recruits while Ben and our dad went off to do their thing.

After a long day of working, we met back up and my birth dad joined us this time.

"Hey, Papà," I greeted him as we hugged and kissed each other on the cheeks.

"Hey, Princess," he greeted with his accent coming through. "How have you been?"

"Good papà," I answered. "How about you?"

"Good," he replied with a smile that hadn't left his handsome face. "Cody told me the good news."

"Yeah, I am happy we got him to join," I stated happily. "I can't wait for y'all to see how he is in the ring in person."

"Which still makes me jealous," Ben said.

I giggled.

"Sorry, little brother," I said, "But at least you could see it now for sure since he is joining us now and get the chance to know him."

"True," he said, "but I still hafta wait though while you didn't."

"True, I didn't," I said. "Watching his match was awesome, and getting pictures too."

They giggle at my statement.

"And my god, the energy he brings to the squared circle is amazing, and the moves he pulls... I see why you recommended him."

"Yeah," Ben agrees feeling proud, "He is wicked."

"Alright," Papà spoke up with his accent coming through. "I don't know about you two, but I am getting a little hungry and I am a little worn out."

I giggled.

"Honestly, now that you mentioned it, I am too," Ben said.

Bruno barked in agreement and we all laughed.

"We are too," I said with a smile while giving him some love. "Plus, I need to go and feed David as well."

"Alright, let's get something to eat and then get some rest," Daddy states. "We still got a lot to do."

After we agreed on a place, we then started making our way to our respective vehicles and headed in that direction. After we had our fill, we went to where each of us stayed. Once I got home, I checked on David.

"Hey, Sweetie," I greeted him with a smile.

I grabbed his food and started to feed him. After he let me know he was done, I took a shower and got changed into something comfortable.

I then looked at my phone and saw that Sam, who is Darby's real name, messaged me.

(R- Rach and S- Sam)

After that, I put my phone on the charger with a smile on my face. Then, I heard a knock on my bedroom door, causing Bruno to perk up. I gave him a pat on the head before I got up to answer the door. When I did, Papà was on the other side greeting me with his handsome smile painted on his face.

"Hey Papà," I greeted him with a smile in return.

"Hey, Princess," he says. "I wanted to come say good night and give you a hug."

I giggled before I walked into my Papà's waiting arms and hugged him. I have always been a daddy's girl. His little princess,  even though I am almost in my 30s, and I wouldn't change it for the world. I felt him kiss my head.

"Good night, Papà," I said, "I love you."

"I love you too," he says.

He pulled away from the hug before heading back to his room. I closed the door,  headed back to my bed, and got comfy before turning off the lights and heading off to dreamland with a smile on my face.
