To Leave... Or Not To?

Vlad stared down at his hands absently. He couldn't wait to finish what's left of his shift and go home. Every day with Andres was slowly becoming harder to stand.

"Daddy? Dad!" Gala's voice brought him out of his absent thoughts and he looked at the kid, not even trying to fake a smile for her.

"Are you okay?" She asked. She had Fyo in her arms and he was busy playing with his toy airplane, swishing it through the air noisily.

He glanced at the kid then back at her, "I am fine. Do you want to leave now?"

She opened her mouth but closed it back and looked away, leaning back on her seat. She said, "Caleb needs to come on then we can leave."

Vlad checked his watch. "My break ends by 1:00pm. Whoever he is better be on before zen."

The school was having a show for their Christmas Carnival and honestly, Vlad hadn't planned on going. If only Andres hadn't called him and begged.

The auditorium was crowded with kids and parents of the like. Vlad and his kids were somewhere in the crowd watching the students perform. He had watched a couple of eight graders recite Christmas poems they had written themselves and was now watching the tenth graders act How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Vlad wasn't the least bit interested until he heard the cast list. One of Leon and Stuart's kids were in the play. At least teasing them would be enough fun until he had enough money to leave the bloody island.

"Do you know Faun?" Vlad asked Gala. Even though the four men had met, they hadn't officially introduced their kids yet.

Gala narrowed her eyes at him. "Why would you want to know?"

"He my friend kid."

"So you haven't met him?"

"Just find him on stage."

Vlad ignored her stare until she looked away to the stage. "Fine. You don't have to be so grumpy about it. Someone made you mad?"

Vlad didn't answer mostly because she wouldn't understand. How could he tell her he might actually be gay and may or may not be falling for Andres? Besides, she was already following through with the role of daughter, she couldn't go out of character and help him out.

"Can't find him. He's probably a tree or something."

Looking back at the stage, he could see a couple of kids were in costumes. Some dressed as a Christmas tree or presents. It was too adorable that Vlad couldn't believe tenth graders would do such a thing.

"Spasibo."

"Uh," She nudged his shoulder, earning his attention. "Did you just say thanks in Russian?"

He smiled at her, surprised she knew what he meant. "You know Russian?"

Gala chuckled at that, lowering her voice when the audience went still. "Not much. I had a Russian friend when I was in the orphanage. When she's arguing or angry, she goes straight back into Russian, forgetting that no one except her knew the language. I picked up a little."

"Really?"

"Yes, really." She did a terrible copy of his accent but he couldn't help laughing at that making her smile.

The audience immediately clapped, signaling the end of the drama. The host, a red haired woman in a very nice and appropriate suit, came back on stage and shone her pretty white teeth. "Wasn't that a blast. Our next performance is from our twelfth graders Caleb and Zoey."

The kids quickly came on stage and took the microphone from Mrs. Ross. She exited and Vlad had his eyes on her the whole time until she made it to the high table where the principal, guidance counselor and two other teachers sat.

Stuart was there, of course, since he was the principal but there was something odd about him. He kept running his hand over his face and tapping his cheeks as if he were trying to stay awake. He probably hadn't had much sleep.

Not like Vlad had had any since the date. After waking up and remembering every embarrassing detail of that night; the kiss, the way they had danced and the fact that he had asked Andres to date him, he hadn't wanted to get out of bed ever.

But he had work and he had to see Andres before he left like he normally did so the Colombian wouldn't know he remembered. The man had even acted fine as if that date didn't happened. He mentioned it a few times to tease but never about the dancing or the kissing or the date thing.

It was going well right after until Vlad noticed the Colombian stopped trying to kiss him. The man stopped making pointless advances at him. Vlad tried to be cool with it, surprised he missed the man's touch to the point he noticed it, but then Andres stopped coming home.

It had been two days since he last saw him and it was nearing their second date. Vlad didn't know what he planned because he sure as hell wasn't going. He was going to leave the island and all he needed was money which he just realized he had enough for.

"Oh my god. That was so amazing, right Fyo?" Gala squealed, hugging the kid to herself.

Vlad hadn't even noticed when the singing started until it ended. Checking his watch again, he frowned at it then at Gala. "We have to leave now." He stood up regardless of the people behind him then turned to her to carry Fyo from her. "Get your bag. Waiting in car."

Gala only sighed helplessly and followed him out of the auditorium. They both went their separate ways when they got out of the basement. While she went back to class to get her bag, he went out of the school and in the direction of the school's car park. However, who he saw as he dropped Fyo into his seat at the back, caught his attention.

Seconds ago he was sitting at the high table and the next he was trying to get to his car. Vlad furrowed his brows as he watched Stuart look for his car. A kid was right behind and Vlad could only guess he was Faun.

Not surprising, they were arguing.

"Why didn't you let me stay back? I could easily ask a friend to drop me home." The kid shouted. He was rather skinny, dressed like a prep kid and had his black hair in a small pony.

"Because I want you home. Do not dare ask me why, just know I fuckin' want you home." He shouted back, stopping by a car not so far from him then turning to the kid. "I am in a sour mood which means don't get me angry."

"Well you should have just left me in school. Maybe then you wouldn't be getting extra mad right now." He replied sarcastically, entering the car as Stuart watched him.

Stuart got his door opened then said to the kid so gently, Vlad almost thought it was a mood swing, "Get out of the car."

"What?"

Then the shouting continued, "Get out of the damn car, you sissy. Don't want me to get extra mad, you get out right now. I don't know how you are going to go home but I expect you there before I get there. Now. Fucking. Get. Down."

Vlad didn't need to see him to know he was mad but he didn't know the man enough to be sure he was really going to leave the kid there. Sighing, he turned to Fyo and said, "Daddy be right back."

The kid nodded then went back to playing with his toys.

Strolling up to Stuart, the Aussie noticed him and cursed aloud making the kid at the other end of the car visibly shake. Stuart really had such a bad temper.

"Hey." Vlad stopped in front of him and waved.

"Get the fuck out."

Vlad smirked at him. "Someone needs to wash zat dirty mouth of yours. Cursing in front of son is terrible thing."

Stuart frowned at him but he was more worried about the eye bags under his eyes than the growl he made. "How about you worry about your child and I'll worry about mine?"

Vlad decided to stay serious and leave the teasing for later. "You in no mood to drive."

"Since when did mood affect driving?"

"Since when speeding earned people tickets and make them do terrible things."

Stuart glared at him for what felt like forever before he turned to Faun, sighing. "Get in the car. Call Leon to come pick us up."

The kid immediately did what he said, obviously not wanting the Aussie to get mad again. Stuart closed his car door then said, "I am tired. I need to leave this place."

"Leon did something wrong?" He tilted his head, curiously.

Stuart scowled at him. "No," He said weakly, moving him away from his car probably so Faun couldn't overhear them. Then added, "I just have thoughts about him a man like myself shouldn't be having. It keeps me awake all night and knowing he's sleeping all too well at night makes me feel like..." He trailed off.

Vlad waited patiently for him to continue but he just grunted and shook his head. This information surprisingly brightened his mood and he smiled, knowing he wasn't the only one feeling not so straight. "I will not complete zat but I understand."

Stuart's eyes widened and he gripped on Vlad's shoulders desperately. "Then what should we do? My only thought was to go back home when I realized money wasn't even our biggest problem."

"It is not?"

"No. Our fucking passport is not with us. So even if we kiss for a whole day and get enough cash to leave, we can't because we don't have a passport. Trust me, I have checked everywhere. I missed school yesterday since Leon went for work on that day and I looked for it. Nothing. Nada. Zilch."

Vlad couldn't believe his ears. His mind hadn't thought of the passport. He had only thought of that one problem and that was money. Vladimir had never felt so devastated before. He knew his life was devastating but this The Gay Project kept a ring on it.

Stuart must have noticed the way he paled because he stepped away from him. "Hey, are you okay?"

Okay? How could he be? He just realized they were really stuck on the island. There was no exit route. It was either be gay or stay there for the rest of his life. And if he had to pick one, it was the one which lets him see his ma again.

"Hey dad!"

Vlad was sure he heard Gala' voice and when he looked up, there she stood, cupping his face in her hands and looking at him worriedly. The only thought that ran in his mind at that point was if this was all an act, and he chose to stay here forever, will the act continue?

"Vlad?" Gala called his name again and he held her hands, pulling it away from his face.

"Let us go home." He managed, pulling her hand down and using it to pull her towards their car. He gave Stuart one last look then turned only to see Leon getting down from some woman's car.

He walked up to Vlad and asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen to Stuart?"

Vlad rose a brow at his worried expression. Did he ask because he genuinely cared for Stuart or was all part of the act? Vlad felt too disoriented to answer it himself so he said instead, "Your husband sounds like sailor. Stop him from cursing around kids."

Then he continued on to his car only to stop and turn to the Canadian and add, "And at kids." Then he tossed his keys at Gala. "You drive."

He let go of her and when she caught it, he smiled smugly at Leon. "Oh and Leon," He waited for the Canadian to turn back to him and he pointed at the girl that was now rushing to the car. "That's my daughter."
