Chapter six: empty

(Y/n) woke up the next morning and got changed out of the uniform she wore. She was happy to wear her normal clothes and sighed once she put them on. She tied her long hair back and went downstairs to help granny. Sors and Vinea gave her a nod, acknowledging that she was back home. The old woman smiled at the young woman, "Welcome home dear." "Glad to be back, granny.," (y/n) replied and got an apron on to help granny. She washed her hands and got to work mixing and shaping dough to make pastries. She set the sugarcookie like crust over a bun and set them into the oven. The sweet smell of baked goods wafted over the store. After setting the buns in the oven, she started making tea. "(Y/n) dear, please come here.," the elderly lady spoke and the young woman walked to the front. "Is there something you need, Granny?," the young woman asked and saw granny at the front register.
The old woman pointed to a box on the top shelf, "Time to put up the seasonal merchandise." "Okay, granny.," the silvery blue haired young woman spoke and got the box down from the shelf. She used a small knife to cut the box open. She opened it and set out the autumn merchandise. Her silver eyes looked over the merchandise after she put it up and nodded. It looked good. Candies set out in glass jars, some key chains and toys set next to handbags, baked goods rested in the case next to the register and other miscellaneous items were spread around the old store.

"Good work as usual, (y/n).," granny beamed. The young woman washed her hands again and went back to make some icebox cookies to sell. The young woman mixed the ingredients and separated the dough to dye it and let it cool in the fridge. She returned her attention to the tea and took the teabags out of the hot water. The oven dinged, alerting her that it was time to pull the bread out. She carefully removed the bread and smelled the delicious smell of baked goods. This was a good and quiet life, a good job and she had some good friends. She did not need anything else. (Y/n) set the buns out to cool before she decorated them to look like her pollen puffs. Her mind was full of more curse based treat ideas for Jujutsu high. She wanted to run some of them by Yaga or Gojo first.
The silvery blue haired young woman sighed and took the tea out to the front. She saw granny was not at her usual spot behind the register. There was a man looking a the goods in the store, though. He had long dark hair tied back and dark clothes on. "Are you looking for anything in particular, sir?," the young woman called out to him. The man turned around to face her. She recognized him, he was that strange priest from before. He gave her a relaxed smile, "Just browsing. This shop that you and your grandmother own is interesting." "Thank you, but I just work here. I don't own it, Granny does.," the silver eyed young woman spoke as she saw the man get closer. He was looking at her face, "You look like a friend of mine.  You have the same eyes and hair."

The young woman took a step back. Granny came back from upstairs and looked between the two, the priest man and her worker. The old woman made a cheeky grin, "Is this your boyfriend, (y/n)? He's pretty handsome." This made both sputter a bit in confusion before the man laughed. "I'm just a customer.," The man explained, "I was just talking to your granddaughter." The old woman walked back behind the register. The man gave (y/n) a slight smile and went to look at the pastries on display. The silver haired woman walked back to the kitchen and took the icebox cookie dough from the fridge and made the cookies. She set some dough aside to make curse cookies for Jujutsu sorcerers to buy. After she assembled the colored cookie dough into the patterns needed, she put the cookies into the oven. The pale woman started placing the left over dough into patterns that resembled some small cursed spirits. The cookies were cute. She placed them into the oven to bake with the rest and went to see if granny needed something.
Granny was talking to the dark haired priest man. He seemed to be buying some of the special Pollen puff bread and some other things. 'This man. I can sense curse energy coming from him. Why is that? He looks a little familiar.,' the young woman thought and peered through the door. Sors peered through the door next to her. The feline curse arched his back more than usual and quickly got away. He had to have seen something about the man he did not like. Thankfully, the priest left. (Y/n) came out of hiding, "That guy was a little weird." "I thought he was nice.," Granny chuckled. The elderly woman fixed her hair bun and stretched her small and wrinkly body, "Can you please get me some tea?" "Sure, granny.," (y/n) replied and walked to the teapot, she poured out the warm tea and took it to the elderly woman. Granny took a sip and sighed, "Tell me. What about that customer was 'weird'." "It was not the first time I saw him. The first time was a few days ago. I was on the bus and I saw him, staring. Now he's in the shop and he said that I look like one of his friends.," the young woman explained, "But. I get the feeling he is pretty dangerous."

(Y/n) finished speaking as the elderly lady listened. "He is.," the voice of Sors spoke as the feline jumped up onto the counter. Vinea looked through the door and floated in after making sure nobody else could see him. His cream colored body was offset by the rose colored blush of his upper shading and his blue eyes. The eyes on his belly darted around with paranoid movements as he flew around. The priest's mere presence made them wary. "He's gone, you two.," The silvery blue haired young woman spoke, "for now, at least." The young woman walked back into the kitchen to pull the cookies from the oven. She put the cookies on a sheet to cool and pulled her curse cookies from the oven. She let the curse cookies cool before packaging them to be sold or given to Jujutsu sorcerers. 'I wonder if I should stop by Jujutsu high today and give the kids these cookies. Maybe even give Yaga some.,' (y/n) thought to herself and saw Sors jump up onto the stool beside her.
The feline curse watched her work on the cookies with his seven eyes. The silver eyed woman looked to the feline and patted his head gently. "Mother, what are you planning to do today?," the dark grey-violet colored curse asked in a purring voice. "Grocery shopping and deliver a package to the post office for granny, maybe stop by Jujutsu high and drop off cookies if I have time.," the woman replied. Vinea floated in and stared at the cookies on the counter before floating in circles around the young woman, "Mother, there are more and more curses. More like us." "There is a very strong one hiding nearby. He is as aware of my presence as I am of his.," (y/n) replied to the flying flower covered serpent.

The young woman finished the cookies and placed them all into different containers, some for Jujutsu sorcerers, some for normal humans. The silvery blue haired woman placed the cookies for the regular customers on the sales floor and placed her special ones in her bag before retrieving a package that needed to be delivered to the post office and got ready to go. "Granny, I am off.," the woman announced and got a goodbye from the elderly woman. She picked up her things and left the store. The road to the post office was uneventful. (Y/n) easily got to the post office and had the package shipped to where it was needed to go. A flare of energy got the young woman's attention, it came from below. 'It is that curse again. What trouble is he causing?,' she thought and went to the grocery store. She quickly bought all the ingredients she needed and decided to take the long route home. She noticed a woman with short, dark hair walking the same way. The woman noticed (y/n) looking at her, "Hello." "Hello. I'm sorry if I was staring, but you look like a sweet young man I met yesterday.," the silvery blue haired young woman said, "I think his name was Junpei." "Then you met my son.," the dark haired woman smiled, "I hope you don't mind me saying this, but you are very unusual in appearance. Almost like a corpse or a ghost like in those movies my son watches."
(Y/n) laughed, "Not at all." Both women began to giggle before the ground shook violently. "Was that an earthquake?," the dark haired woman asked. "Seems like it.," the silver haired young woman replied. She felt the energy of Nanami flaring from deep below. 'I hope Nanami is okay.,' the silver haired your woman thought to herself. The and the woman walked together along the river for a while before she spoke up, "I think I should introduce myself, my name is (y/n)." "My name is Nagi Yoshino.," the woman smiled and lit up a cigarette, "Do you have any children?" "Well... I guess the ones I am taking care of count.," the young woman smiled, "I left them with granny while I am doing errands. And then there is a young man I am helping." "You sound like a mother already.," Nagi commented and took a drag from the cigarette.

'Technically I am, but I don't know if they count to humans.,' the silvery blue haired young woman thought as she continued to walk with Nagi. "Are you the same (y/n) that disappeared for a month, sparking a rescue effort before being declared dead?," the dark haired woman asked, "Then you came out of a dense forest covered in animal blood?" "The very same.," the silver eyed woman responded and the dark eyed woman looked at her, "It's a sore subject. But during that time, I went through utter hell to survive." "You look different than those missing posters that were put up.," Nagi spoke, "But, you survived whatever happened to you. That's good." "Is it? To tell you the truth, I feel kind of empty since then. Like I lost something in that forest.," (y/n) asked. "I'm sure you will find it again.," the dark haired woman replied.
The two came to a large staircase that led down to the riverbank. Two young men were at the bottom. "Huh? There's Junpei.," (y/n) commented and pointed down to the riverside. Nagi looked down and saw the two, "Oh? Junpei?" "Mom!," Junpei answered, "And (y/n)-san!" (Y/n) smiled and saw Yuji beside Junpei, "Yuji-Kun, Making new friends?" "We just met, but I think we're going to be great friends!," Yuji answered with a big grin. 'He's so cute.,' the silvery blue haired woman thought to herself with a smile, 'I want him to be happy for as long as possible. He and the other children should not suffer.'

Nagi seemed happy to hear that her son was making a friend, "Really? I hope you get along then!" Junpei did not look happy, "Mom, we talked about this. I wanted you to quit smoking." "Oh, right. I'm sorry, I did promise not to smoke in front of you.," Nagi said and put out her cigarette. She walked down the stairs with (y/n) following, "What is your friend's name? Yuji?" "Itadori Yuji!," the happy reddish haired boy replied, "That green onion does not suit your look." "You can tell? I'm trying to be a woman who doesn't look good with green onions.," Nagi replied. 'Is this some sort of joke I'm not getting?,' (y/n) asked internally before Nagi spoke again, "(y/n), Yuji, would you like to join us for dinner?" "Hey! You're bothering them!," Junpei told his mother. Junpei's mother made an annoyed face, "Are you calling my cooking a nuisance?"
A sudden growl got everyone's attention, Yuji's stomach was rumbling. "I guess that settles that.," (y/n) chuckled, "I would love to, but I have to get home." She began to walk away before stopping, "Oh, Yuji-Kun. Here are some cookies I made today. You can have them for dessert and share them with Nanami and Ijichi." The silvery haired young woman gave the cookies to the teen and gave him a pat on his hair. "Thanks, mom.," the reddish haired young man smiled. "Junpei, Nagi, take care. And Junpei, if you see that friend you told me about, tell him hi for me.," the silvery blue haired young woman smiled and climbed the stairs before going home. She felt happy. More humans she liked. Maybe humanity was not that bad.

This thing called a 'curse' kept escaping her grasp as her teacher watched on. His words muddled, yet she understood. "Catch it and eat it. It's power will become yours.," her teacher instructed. Finally, she grasped it around its neck and bit into it. Juices dribbled down her face as it screamed. What felt like a flood of energy entered her body as she consumed it, leaving no trace. Her small hands dripped with the fluids of these previous meals. She ate but was still hungry. "Your stomach may be empty, but you will have enough energy to catch prey on your own soon.," her teacher told her and extended his hand, "You are adapting to your new abilities quickly. Good. Your strength with help you in your endeavors."
"Do you think my parents are looking for me?," she asked and wiped her mouth of juices. "They should. You are their daughter.," The creature replied, "But this area is remote. They may not think to look here." "Do you think I can get those.... humans back for what they did?," she asked her teacher, looking upon his inhuman face. "You are capable of that and much more.," came the reply. Her teacher paused for a bit, "This is where we part ways. I am sure we will meet again, (y/n). Your curse spirit will teach you the rest of the abilities you have, you are strong enough to protect yourself from grade 1 curses now."

She watched as her teacher walked away, disappearing into the trees. She knew she would see him again, she had to. She would show him how strong she was when they meet again. But first, she needed to leave the forest. How else would she be able to make the world see what those sorry excuses for humans did.

She felt empty for some reason.
