Chapter seven: heartbreak.

It was another sunny day with sparse clouds. (Y/n) was setting out new pastries and treats in the shop as granny cleaned. Sors and Vinea helped with the cleanup efforts. The curses took out the trash and helped to dust. Sors put down the duster and stretched. Vinea hovered around, observing the surroundings before giving an approving nod. "Glad you find it satisfactory, Vinea.," Granny chuckled. The silvery blue haired young woman smiled a little, she was happy again today. It was everything she wanted. But a small amount of emptiness was still present. She could not help but to think of Junpei and his mother, they were nice. Her mind wandered again to her dreams, the dream from the previous night was a little different than usual. It was like she was trying to catch up to her son as he walked away.
She felt a nudge and looked to see Vinea looking at her. "It's okay, Vinea. Just thinking about the dream of your brother.," the young woman smiled and patted the snake's muscular neck. The snake nudged her again and flew up the stairwell. Sors hopped onto the register counter and stretched. "Are you going to nap right here, Sors?," Granny asked the feline curse. Sors laid on the counter as a response and waved his nine tails. "You look like a demented maneki neko.," (y/n) teased and got a huff from the feline. The old woman chuckled as well. A sharp, cold feeling made her and all the other curses freeze.

"Did you feel that?," Sors asked. "Yes. It was that curse I felt two days ago.," (y/n) answered, "That was a very strong technique." The young woman looked to her elderly Landlady and got a nod from her, "You can go investigate." The silvery blue haired young woman nodded in return and took her apron off before running out of the door. She looked left and right, pinpointing the energy. Her shoes tapped on the sidewalk as she ran, following the energy. She felt a sudden spike of curse energy from an unknown sorcerer and from Yuji. It felt like a fight. The young woman turned into a school and saw a black veil barrier was set over the school. She reached her hand out and touched the inky black dome. It felt like a strong barrier to the touch, yet, there was a bit of give. She applied her curse energy and the barrier gave way to allow her entry. The barrier closed behind her, leaving no trace of her entrypoint.
Energy from the curse was strong at the school. It felt like he was a young curse, recently born. Perhaps within the last few months. The woman looked around the dark area with her silver eyes before heading into the school. She saw Ijichi in the hall and approached him, "Ijichi-kun, what happened?" "(Y/n), I'm sorry to say but, Junpei...," the black haired man started before a sharp explosion sounded, "That sounded close!" "That energy is Junpei? He's not alone, there's a special grade curse here.," the silvery blue haired woman spoke, "He's strong." "At this point, we have to wait until Nanami-san comes.," Ijichi spoke, barely holding it together. "Ijichi, tell me, is there anyone here?," the young woman asked. "There is, they are this way!," the man responded and showed her to the large assembly hall where all the children and staff were in. All passed out on the ground, only two were awake.

The young woman went to see if the teacher was okay. He was sobbing into his hands, mumbling something about not seeing what was happening. "Sir, are you okay?," the silver haired young woman asked, "Are you injured?" "No, I am fine.," the obese man replied, "But the children-" "Will be okay, they are under some sort of induced sleep. Are there any injuries?," (y/n) inquired. "One. Up there.," the teacher replied and motioned to the young man on the stage who was holding his arm. The silver blue haired young woman nodded and went to check his arm out. She carefully took hold of the arm and looked at it. "This looks to be a toxin that attacks the nerves and muscles.," the young woman commented, "You should be fine, although, I don't know if you will regain feeling and movement in this arm."
The teen was about to saw something before another loud explosion like sound was made. (Y/n)'s head shot up, "Sounds like they are really going at it. I hope they are safe." She stood from kneeling beside the teen and went to check on the unconscious students. To her horror, there was a few who could not be woken from the slumber. Sounds of fighting and strong curse energy were causing (y/n)'s focus to wane as she tried to check on all the children and cover who were deceased. "Junpei, what caused you to do this?," she asked herself. "Scars. Burn scars. He showed me.," the teacher sputtered out, answering her question, "He was being bullied horribly, and I never saw it." Those words made the young woman freeze as a sharp and painful memory of her past came back.

Humans. How cruel they are to each other. But, (y/n) had more work to do there. From her peripheral, she saw Ijichi come in and look around before coming to her. "At least five dead, some wounded, the rest are sleeping. Whoever granted Junpei this ability, he is strong.," the young woman reported, "I have lost track of Junpei's energy. Nanami-san and Yuji are fighting the Curse." "There is something I need to tell you, Nanami-san had a report on this curse. His appearance and abilities.," the bowl haired man spoke. "You can tell me after, Ijichi-kun.," (y/n) said, "Right now, I need to check the school for more wounded. With the amount of fighting that is breaking the building, there are more than likely quite a few injured."
"You shouldn't go, we should wait for Jujutsu tech to send backup.," the black haired, spectacled man spoke, "It's dangerous." "I can handle it. I'm basically a special grade curse, remember?," the young woman replied, "I'll pull back if I'm in danger." The silvery blue haired woman stood and ran out of the assembly hall. She went into a hallway and followed some destruction. In different classrooms, she found more unconscious humans. Students and staff. Some killed by the destruction, some injured, some fine. (Y/n) administered some first aide before finding a different body in the stairwell. It was purplish and bloated, twisted into a cursed shape, yet still human. Slowly, (y/n) placed her hand on the corpse. It had the texture of human skin. Black hair covered one eye the sat above an extended muzzle. The pile of clothes on the ground was human. This was another human forced to be a curse. Just like Nanami said. A large amount of curse energy was still in the body of what hand been Junpei. (Y/n) felt a little disgusted but fed on the curse energy, absorbing it and storing it in her body as her own.

She felt the building shake as the fighting outside continued. She saw a large shadow block the window before it vanished. The energy of the curse disappeared. The silvery blue haired young woman looked down at Nanami and Yuji. Both looked injured and extremely angry. (Y/n) ran down the stairs and jumped out of a broken window before making her way to Nanami and Yuji. "Yuji-kun, Nanami-san!," she called out to them. As soon as she got close, she ducked from Yuji throwing a punch at her. The young man stopped after seeing who it was. Pain and rage was present on his face as he looked into her eyes. He turned away in anger. She was helped up by Nanami, who also looked rather upset. "Yuji-kun?," the silver eyed woman asked. "It would be best not to get near Yuji-kun for a while, (y/n).," Nanami spoke calmly. (Y/n) looked up at the blond man, "Why not?" "Your face.," the blond man replied, " It looks almost exactly like that Curse's does." Both watched Yuji become frustrated.
(Y/n) felt extremely bad for Yuji and wanted to help him, but knew that he may just become more upset if he saw her. "(Y/n)-chan, what made you come here?," the blond man asked. "I was drawn here by the sudden burst of negative and curse energy.," the young woman answered. The blond man only pushed his glasses back onto his face. "Nanami, what's going to happen now?," (y/n) asked. "We'll give the school a cover story that Junpei and his mother have moved to another city.," Nanami replied, "As for the damage to the school we can pay for repairs." "Where is Nagi-san?," the silvery blue haired young woman asked. "Dead. She was found this morning. Killed by a curse.," the blond man answered. A feeling of nausea bubbled in (y/n)'s throat. Nagi and Junpei were kind people.

Now they were gone.

The sounds of night were scary without teacher. (Y/n) looked around, shivering and on edge. She had been seeing more and more monsters as she got to areas that were filled with more and more human corpses. She could hear the voice of the one who also inhabited her body.
"Keep going.," the female voice spoke, "We'll be at a safe area soon. You can rest soon." The girl hoped the voice was right, this curse that decided to save her by inhabiting her body and healing her.

Finally, she came to a clear and mossy clearing. She found a place to sit down that was nestled in the trees. The moon gave her light to see the forest. It was beautiful. There were no humans trying to desecrate it. It was natural, wild, powerful. It was like she was seeing the world with new eyes. And it was wonderful. She saw an old lantern the was made of carved stone and cracked stone walkways that led to broken stairs.
"What is that?," the girl asked and got up before climbing the stairs and finding an abandoned building. "This looks like it would have been a shrine once, it seems long forgotten.," the voice of the curse inside of (y/n) spoke softly, "It should be safe to use as a shelter for tonight." The young girl carefully went inside the building and looked around. It seemed to be safe enough. She laid on the mat in the shrine and curled up to sleep. She was getting closer to going home. But, how long had it been since she was thrown into this forest? She was starting to lose count. She felt empty and hungry.

Her eyes closed and she let out a sigh, "Mom, dad, I'm coming home. We are coming home." The sounds of the outside were soothing, allowing her to go to sleep, regardless of her extreme hunger. Her mind was not filled with dreams of her own, but horrible visions of a life that was not hers. She gasped awake and sat up quickly. "What was that?," the girl asked herself. "That was my past. I'm sorry if sharing it scared you.," the voice of the spirit that cohabitated spoke. "No, it's okay. I'm sorry you had to go through that.," (y/n) said and sat criss cross on the mat, "Do you want to talk about it if that is okay?"
The spirit was quiet before speaking again, "Close your eyes. Then we can speak face to face. I'm going to let you into my domain." (Y/n) closed her eyes and opened them again. A woman sat across from her, she was dressed in traditional kimonos and had her hair up in a beautiful style. They were sitting in a beautiful home with a large garden. "This is my domain. Nice to finally speak to you face to face.," the woman said with a smile. She seemed sad. The sadness was even worse once (y/n) noticed the bleeding wounds on the woman's body.
