Chapter Two: And Tools are Made of Fools

Hello all. I'm back and still here. I'm in the process of writing the next chapter for beautiful lies so for those of you that are waiting, jeez, I'm writing. Anyway, here's a treat for you from a new perspective.-😈

Logan awakes in the middle of the night to the tossing and turning of his roommate, Patton Baker. Logan sighs in annoyance. Honestly, the only reason they were put together was because King Roman wanted them too. In any other circumstance, Logan would have refused. The very idea of sharing with the highly emotional sappy servant is unpleasant, let alone actually living with him. Just looking on Patton's side of the room made Logan feel ill. The way it was organized was just so messy and sloppy, Logan shuddered at seeing it. It was a wonder Patton was still a servant. Patton groaned in his sleep, as Logan sighed.

"Patton, I request that you wake up, as you are disturbing my rest due to the lack of calm in your rest," Logan said, shaking him away, voice tired and frustrated. Patton mumbled and turned over, grumbling as he slept. Logan shook him more. "Patton!" He snapped.

Patton finally woke, rubbing his eyes groggily and groaning.

"Huh?"

"You have been disturbing my rest," Logan snipped at the fellow servant. Patton mumbles, flopping back on the pillow.

"Mmm? S'rry," he slurs sleepily.

"No need for apologies, just do not do it again," Logan says primly, sitting back down on his own bed. "We only have a few hours until morning light."

"Oly few hourssss?" Patton mumbled. "Maybe I shad stay awakee."

"That would be unwise, seeing as you and I went to bed about two hours ago," Logan said, flipping open his book on magic. Patton groans, flopping back onto bed. For a moment, there is silence and Logan thinks he can go back to sleep.

"I can't sleep Logan," Patton says finally. "Why don't we talk?" Logan stifles a groan, loathing to talk with any one, much less Patton.

"Very well," Logan sighs. "What do you wish to discuss?"

"King Consort Virgil," Patton said, sitting up, leaning on his bed, curly hair a mess, the strands in his face. "What do you think of him?" Logan stares at him. It's rare that Patton asks an intelligent question.

"I suppose he's quiet. King Consort Janus was quite different compared to him. I would suppose he's very loyal to the king," Logan says, hardly keeping the disgust out of his voice. The hussy was hardly worth King's attention, let alone his love. The king was far too kind to Janus, in Logan's opinion. But the king was always so just and kind, even when it wasn't deserved.

Patton hears the disdain anyway, flinching and sighing quietly.

"I suppose you're right. They are very different," Patton concedes. "But I imagine they'll end the same way," Patton says, shooting back a backhanded comment to Logan. Logan doesn't care much for Patton's biased opinion, ignoring him.

"Happy with the king? I should hope so," Logan said, eyes returning to his book on magic theory. He studies the complicated spell, annoyed that it requires a potion. He was no good at potions, despite his younger brother being a talented apothecary.

"You know what I meant."

"I would hope you'd be more respectful to the ruler of your country," Logan said without looking up from his book. Patton sighs, leaning back in his bed. "Besides, you know what happens to traitors, don't you?" Patton's stiffens, sitting up perfectly straight.

"Logan, you know I would never-"

"I'm just informing you in case such information would be needed," Logan says in his flat tone, idly turning the pages of his book. "Which I'm sure it won't."

"No," Patton says after a long pause of silence. "That won't be necessary." The pair remain in silence till the sun rises, and even after that. They walk together in tandem, silent quiet things, until they reach the King's room.

"Will you be attending to the new King Consort?"

"Yes, as well as King Consort Janus," Patton says, not looking Logan in the eye. Logan hardly cares, opening the door.

"Wonderful. I'll take care of his majesty." The pair silently go about tidying the room, the king and his partners sleeping as they worked.

"Hello?" a voice calls softly from the bed. "Good morning to you." The pair turn to see King Consort Virgil wide awake, watching them from the bed. Logan bows, following Patton.

"Good morning your majesty," Logan says crisply. "We're sorry to disturb you."

"Oh its alright. I couldn't sleep much anyway," Virgil says, a smile on his face. Logan nods, its to be expected, after all, it was his wedding night. Patton mutters something under his breath, shooting the king a dirty look. Logan scoffs at Patton.

"Excuse his rudeness your majesty," Logan says, jerking his head towards Patton. "He can be quite foolish." Virgil continues to smile.

"Oh its quite alright."

"What is poppet?" Roman asks, wrapping an arm around Virgil and kissing his cheek. Logan sighs a little, smiling brighter. Virgil smiles, but Logan is displeased to see his smile be weak.

"Patton accidentally woke me up," He lied. Logan's eyes flashed with rage. How dare he lie? The king is so kind and loving, how could he betray his trust? Roman's eyes fall on Logan.

"Logan, do you think something else happened?" Roman asked, raising an eyebrow. Logan opens his mouth to speak, Patton flinching. Suddenly, Janus groans in pain as he wakes up.

"Oh, my head," he groans. "Roman, my head! It hurts, help me." Roman smiles teasingly, kissing his forehead, attention returning to Janus.

"I told you to drink water darling."

"You forgot to have any delivered last night," Janus mumbles, rubbing his eyes. Roman laughs softly.

"Janus darling, you always say the silliest things. I did, you just forgot," Roman laughed gently. "Didn't I Logan?" Logan nods immediately.

"Yes you did your majesty."

"I didn't remember that coming," Virgil says softly, squeezing a dejected Janus's hand. Roman's face becomes more upset.

"That's because both of you were both sleepy poppet," Roman cooed, kissing his cheek. "We had quite a night after all." Virgil flushes red, as Roman smiles teasingly. Janus once again remains impassive, merely groaning in pain.

"Your majesty, may I get King Consort Janus an aspirin from the infirmary?" Patton asks quietly.

"I suppose you may," Roman sighs. "But be quick about it." Patton darts off, bowing. Roman smiles gently ignoring Logan who stares at him in admiration. "Logan, dress me for my court meeting today."

"I'm getting dressed too, give me a moment," Janus mutters under his breath through a splitting headache. Virgil watches him in concern.

"Janus, maybe-"

"Darling, I think it's best you stay in bed today if you are feeling unwell," Roman says. Logan started dressing him quickly, putting on his formal wear. "I wouldn't want you wearing yourself out." Janus shook his head, slowly getting up.

"No, no, I promised I'd go. I haven't gone in a month, everytime I get a headache, I can get through it," Janus mumbled. Janus stumbles up, tripping forward, legs weak as he attempts to get up. Roman easily scoops him up and lays him back in bed.

"Go back to sleep darling, you're in no condition to go. I understand, I won't be upset you can't make it. That just means you and poppet can spend some quality time together, isn't that just lovely?" Roman cooed, petting his head, brushing his hair back. Virgil sits beside him on the bed.

"I'm ever so sorry Janus," Virgil says softly, holding his hand. "You must feel awful." Janus groaned in pain.

"I just need aspirin," he mumbled. "Roman, you know that's all I need."

"Darling, its okay. You need not busy yourself with silly things like politics, especially when you feel unwell," Roman smiled, Logan placing the crown on his head. The king was so wise, he thought as Patton arrived with water and an aspirin. Virgil smiled, waving.

"Hello." Patton bows, handing Janus the water and aspirin, as well as moving a trash can from the corner, which would become very necessary soon.

"Hello your majesty."

"Give Janus the aspirin and then leave. Well my darlings, I must be leaving soon, but I'll have breakfast delivered here to you, alright?" Roman says. Virgil nods quickly, and Janus barely lifts his head, vomiting into a garbage can on the side. "I love you both."

"I love you," Janus and Virgil say together, tone soft and endearing. Inside Logan's deepest heart, as he is following the king, he says it too.
