CHAPTER THREE

A small voice woke me up.
"Uh... Gigi? Hello? You awake? Hurry up, it's time! Gigi? Gigi? Gigi? GIGI?"
"SHUT UP," I yelled, "I'M COMING!"
I had always been hard to wake up, and grumpy when I finally did wake up.
"Ah, not too soon. I was starting to get worried, you know? Papa wouldn't have liked it, 'cause I'm supposed to be strong, as his son and all, but you know..."
He interrupted himself when he noticed that I was glaring at him with pure fury from the entrance of my cave.
"Let's go," he muttered.
He didn't make another sound until we arrived in front of yet another cave. There was a huge slab of stone in the center of the circular room, bowl shaped holes carved into it at regular intervals. In front of each "bowl" was sat a creature. In total, there must have been about 15, and room for more.
Upon seeing me and Hammer, a turquoise creature stood up and held her paw out for me to shake. I was almost getting used to this.
"Hi, oh Chosen One, I am Breeze, Hammer's... mother? I think you call me that, right?"
So THAT was a female? She didn't look much different from Pebbles, but I guessed that was because they all wore forms of clothing.
"Oh, nice to meet you Breeze... Please, call me Gigi," I added through a suddenly dry throat, "Chosen One makes me uncomfortable..." I trailed off.
"Hi mum!" waved Hammer excitedly.
"Well hello Hammer. Again." she answered patiently. "Do sit down," she motioned to me.
I obeyed carefully, having to painstakingly hoist myself up to meet the bench that had been placed way too high for my 1.5m to easily reach.
"What do you want, fried alumeroo or roasted chipado?" Seeing the look of helpless confusion printed on my face, her expression softened and she apologized. "Oh, I'm sorry, you do not know these animals, do you dear? Don't worry, we have specially imported raw chicken for you."
"Raw chicken?" I choked.
"Yup. Don't you eat it, on your planet?"
"On my WHAT?" my eyes widened, hoping against hope that I had misheard her.
"Your planet."
"My planet?"
"You know," Hammer interjected, "that round thing floating in outer space."
"I know what a planet is." I stammered. "I mean - I - wait - what planet is this?"
"Jinposa," Breeze answered swiftly, scooping up a handful of suspicious looking porridge and stuffing it in her mouth, "why?"
I suddenly felt faint. If it wasn't for the solid rock bench holding me back, I would probably have fallen to the ground. I gulped hard as I noticed that the room was staring at me and focused on my chicken as I waited for my head to stop spinning. As it turned out, eating the chicken was a bad decision, but I was so hungry that I almost managed to forget the taste and smell of it.
*************
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of at least a dozen blaring trumpets. I fell out of the moss bedding, stunned, and stumbled out of my caves, where the Colonel and his troops were waiting for me.
Without a word, they escorted to the same cave as the night before, and placed some more chicken in front of me, that I politely declined. They sat themselves down and started noisily stuffing themselves while I tried to look away, not wanting to know what was making these sickening crunches in their mouths.
When they were done, the Colonel turned to me and stated:
"Today is the day. I will escort you to the changing room."
"The changing room? What for?" I demanded, perplexed. There was no reason for him to bring me to a changing room, because I had found in my set of caves the necessary to bathe and change myself.
"YOU DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS TO THE COLONEL! GOT IT?" he yelled, but in a more playful tone.
"Yes Colonel," I rolled my eyes to the ceiling.
"No, seriously, just kidding, I have no idea," he softened.
We continued walking in an uncomfortable silence, me squirming under his amused stare. I was wondering what was going to happen to me, and the fact that even a quite influential figure like the Colonel had no idea did nothing to comfort me.
"The changing room. Enjoy!" said the Colonel before leaving me in the darkness. I thought I saw a hint of pity appear on his face before he left, and my poor heart thudded in my chest before settling into a frenzied pounding.
Despite my desperate pleas, the Colonel didn't come back for me.
I whipped around as a screen door that I hadn't noticed before, blended into the rock, screeched open behind me, revealing an old woman.
The woman wore old tattered clothes on her slouched figure. She must have been about 100 years old, but her eyes still held a twinkle of mischief that reminded me of someone. She had a graceful aquiline nose that I knew very well, and the arch of her eyebrows was unmistakable, matched with the glittering green of those deep-set eyes...
She sucked in a quavering breath as she took me in, a hand flying up to cover her mouth in shock.
"Juliette," I gasped, "Juliette is that you?"
