CHAPTER ONE
I am Gigi Carlsunad. And back then, I had no idea of what on earth I was doing in a cave. It wasn't just any cave, either. From where I stood, it highly resembled an underground cave. Indeed, I could identify all of the characteristics of one, that I had been forced to study in geology with Mr. Baggins. The stalagmites were pointing towards my right side, and I knew that they pointed North. Trouble was, North wouldn't help me if I was underground. I was interrupted in my speculation a few seconds later.
"Gigi Carlsonade?" boomed a deep gravelly voice from the mouth of the cave.
"Who are you?" I asked boldly.
"Thank goodness It finally sent you here," answered the voice from the shadows, "We were expecting you a few days ago already."
"WHO ARE YOU!" I yelled. I didn't like being toyed with, as a naturally strongheaded person, and I had the distinct certitude of being manipulated.
"All in good time, my dear," the voice hissed, suddenly sounding a lot less human and a lot more serpentine, "right now, something else lays in wait for you."
"Well, what awaits you is my fist in your gut if you don't show yourself," I announced, as anger built up and took over my self-control.
The voice chuckled darkly. I could hear its feet stomping the ground, the echo of its thunderous footsteps getting quieter until I could nor hear it nor see which way it had taken to get out. That is when I realised that I hadn't heard it coming in. Since when was it here, watching me, studying me, analyzing me, waiting for me to wake up to check that it was me? I bit back a wail of panic, remembering that I was meant to be strong, for Helen.
Then another terrifying thought crossed my mind: how many of them were there? Suddenly, I could feel dozens of inquisitive stares boring into my back. Exhausted, nerve racked, I curled up into a ball and fell asleep again.
I was awakened by a peculiar sound. A sound that I knew, but I would have never have expected to hear in those conditions. A sound everyone had heard at least once in their life, oh so familiar and yet impossible to pinpoint. It was the sound of nails on a chalkboard, lasting what felt like hours and hours while I lay cringing in my corner, unsuccessfully trying to reject the atrocious cacophony from my aching body.
Finally, it ended, and I could breathe again. I focused on breathing as my shuddering limbs throbbed and blood flowed steadily from my nose and ears and a steady, gut wrenching pain grew in my head. I moaned, burying my forehead in my hands and attempting to massage my temples, hoping it would ease the razor-sharp blades I felt were raking my brain.
This is the moment the owner of the voice chose to show itself. Once again, it hid in the shadows.
"It is time," it said, its voice unnervingly professional.
"Not right now, I...am... kinda...busy? I guess..." I managed to utter sarcastically through gritted teeth, not bothering to lift my head.
"NOW!" it ordered. There was no doubt now. It - whatever it was - it wasn't human.
"I - can't - get - up - right - now," I wheezed, panting heavily, annoyed that it was unable to guess that just by looking at my crumpled body.
"I leave you 5 minutes," it growled.
I let my head dangle to my heaving chest, and just zoned out. Black dots clouded my vision and I felt myself go numb.
I must have had dozed off for more than 5 minutes, because the creature came to wake me up, and for the first time, I could contemplate its traits. The first gaze froze me to a statue of shock and terror. It had no eyes, only slits that opened onto a depth of darkness that seemed to hold all of the wisdom the world held. Its nose was reunited into one unique nostril which stuck out from its otherwise flat, scaly skin. Its mouth was full off dagger-like, razor sharp teeth, each one the size of my hand. It was colossal, about 4m tall and 1.5m wide, I guessed. I stood staring with my mouth agape, unable of tearing my eyes from this unearthly scene, until its clawed hand shook me gruffly.
"Get up," it barked.
Shaking, I obeyed. Surprisingly, I had recuperated my coordination in the few minutes of sleep I had gotten.
Suddenly, as silently as slowly slithering snakes, another one appeared, then another, standing on either side of me as the three if them escorted me to a smaller cavern where a lone seat was lit up by a stranded ray of moonlight.
"Sit here and your questions will be answered," they told me in a terrifying ensemble.
"Don't move," cautioned the first one.
As soon as I sat on the marble bench, my mind went black as I sunk into unconsciousness.

I'd also like to thank my own personal editor so far, who has helped me find the words to say what I wanted to say... Lena... thank you so much for being patient with my weird out of the blue questions.
I hope you'll love this story as much as I do, let me know what you think!
