Chapter 12: Magic Moments
Hi everyone... sorry for not updating as frequently as usual... with summer you'd think I'd be less busy 😅
Well, anyways, I decided I'd make time to write a chapter for you guys. So here you go! Enjoy!
Serena
Ouch!
"Ugh..." was the only sound that found its way out of Serena's mouth. She was lying on her stomach, and snow covered her face. She went up on her knees, and hastily wiped it off, not happy that it made her face wet and cold. She looked around, and to her astonishment, she saw another body in the snow. With a jolt, she recognized it.
Ash!
"ASH!" Serena screamed, crawling over to him. "Ash, answer me," she pleaded, shaking him a little. He slowly looked up at her, and smiled.
"Serena!" he said happily, hugging her. "Thank goodness you're okay."
Serena, full of relief, gladly returned to hug. "I could say the same thing about you." she relished in the warmth she was feeling, then realized that she was hugging Ash. She instantly went red. After a couple moments though, she felt Ash pull away from her, and she saw him stand up.
"Well," he said, "Looks like we have to find another plan for getting out of here." he walked towards the edge of the hole, trying to see how thick the snow was. Serena tried to get up and follow him, but as soon as she put weight on her ankle, she cried out in pain. Hurts!
Ash quickly ran over to her. "You okay?" he said, clearly concerned.
Serena looked down at her leg. "M-My ankle," she said feebly.
Ash gave her a reassuring smile as he looked at it. "Looks like it's just a sprain," he said. "Luckily," he added, smiling, "there's lots of snow around here to numb it for you." he got her sitting down, and scooped up some snow in his hands, and dumped some of it on her ailing ankle. "There," he said satisfied. "All better!"
"It does feel a little bit better," Serena admitted. "Thanks, Ash."
"You're welcome," Ash replied. He then proceeded to sit down next to her, and grinned, wriggling his fingers over her injured leg. "How 'bout this? Feel better, feel better right away!"
Serena laughed. Of course he would say the "spell" he used on her as kids. She playfully shoved him. "Whatever, magic boy."
He grinned at her. "Looks like it worked, though." Serena rolled her eyes, still laughing.
"Hey, Serena, look!" Ash's voice caught her attention, and she turned to see him pointing at the sky. She looked up, and saw that the clouds had cleared enough to let some of the moon shine through, bathing them in moonlight. "Isn't the moon pretty, Serena?" he asked her.
"Of course!" she agreed. "It shines a really pretty light on everywhere... I always love to go outside at night and watch the moon. The world looks so different at night. I've also seen wonderful things at night too- that's when I saw Eevee- I mean Sylveon- with the flower crown I made for her!"
"Wow, Serena, that's awesome," he exclaimed. Then his eyes lit up with a sudden idea, and he stood up, trying to pull Serena up with him. "Come on, Serena, up, up, up!"
"My ankle!" she protested. What had come over him? What's going on?
"Never give up until it's over, Serena," Ash said, trying to help her up. "I believe in you, so please?"
Serena gave in, letting Ash help her up. Why can't I say no to him!? Her ankle hurt at first, but the pain was slowly dying away, and she could lightly set her foot down without too much pain. She looked at him. "Now what?"
Ash smiled at her. "Serena... I've wanted to do this for a long time, but I never got the chance. So we're doing it here. Right now. Serena Yvonne..."
"I believe I owe you a dance."
Serena stared at him blankly. "What?"
Ash grabbed her shoulders. "I remember that dance party Serena. Of course I wanted to go with you, but you put your Pokemon first. I admired that about you, so much. I danced with Miette, and that was pretty fun, I guess. But then the time came to dance with you... and the music stopped, and we started our battle. I could see how much you wanted to dance with me Serena, and please know I wanted to dance with you." He looked at her hesitantly. "So maybe we could do it... now?"
Serena's brain was all over the place, and her cheeks instantly reddened. Ash wants to dance with me!? ME!? Now!? This- I- I must be dreaming! However, she was well aware that she was not dreaming. She looked at Ash, and she felt words come to her.
"Well, first off, your timing is way off," she started. But then she saw him begin to look discouraged, and she smiled at him. "Oh, Ash, of course I'd like to dance with you."
His smile brightened. "Perfect," he said, pulling her close. Serena blushed a little, but then quickly shook it off when she realized that this was the moment that she'd been waiting for. This is happening! This is actually happening!
"Oh, uh..." Ash stuttered, clearly looking flustered. "I'm not a very good dancer, so..."
Serena smiled at him reassuringly. "Don't worry, Ash," she said. "I'll lead." She put her hands on his shoulders and started the dance. She saw him looking a little awkward at first, but Serena saw him slowly get used to the motions as he twirled around with her.
"This... this is really fun!" Ash told her. Serena flashed a smile back at him. She knew that dancing wasn't his strong suit (that was obviously Pokemon battles), but he was trying, for her, and possibly for him as well.
The smile stayed on her face as she was spun around. Forgetting the cold, pain, hopelessness, she was instantly thrown back to that night, where she was denied the chance to dance with her one true love. But this time, instead of the music stopping, it continued on, a song for a night they could hold on to forever. She grabbed his hand and felt the air blow around her as he spun her, the fabric of her long, red, ballgown flowing around. Her eyes sparkled; she didn't want this moment to end, not now, not ever, because for one blissful, magic, eternal moment-
"Hey, Espeon, Sylveon! Over here!"
Serena opened her eyes to see Ash waving his arms at the edge of the hole, where Espeon's and Sylveon's voices were echoing, Pikachu's joining them after a second. Footsteps were heard, and soon enough, the three Pokemon appeared at the edge of the hole, looking relieved and happy.
Seriously!? Why can I never get a full dance with this man!?
She sighed, knowing that safety was far more important than one small dance. She joined Ash. "Sylveon!" she called, waving at her beloved Fairy-type Pokemon. "Can you pull us out with your feelers?"
Instead of responding, Sylveon sent one of her feelers down into the hole, which Ash grabbed immediately. He held his hand out to Serena. "Grab my hand," he told her, and she did, sailing up as Sylveon retracted her feeler. With a small oof! they were placed gently on Sylveon's back, and they started setting off towards the campsite. Luckily, the snow had slowed down significantly, and they could actually see the way back. She yawned, beginning to feel sleepy again, then felt Ash put a reassuring arm around her.
"You sleep," he said, smiling at her, knowing how tired she must be.
"But last time-" Serena started, but was instantly cut off.
"This time I'm going to watch you," Ash said determinedly. He tucked one of Sylveon's feelers over her. "There," he said, sounding satisfied. "Now you can't fall."
"Th-Thanks, A-Ash," Serena stuttered, leaning into him a little. It felt good.
"Hey, Serena?" she heard him ask her, though his voice was starting to sound a little blurry.
"What Ash?" she drearily asked.
"I'm sorry we didn't get to finish," he said. "But don't worry..." as his words faded into blackness, Serena could just make out the last part.
"You'll get another chance."
That's it for this chapter! Everyone, please believe me when I say that I am SUPER sorry for not updating as much! I will try my hardest to update more frequently...
