PART 2: A Less than Desirable Introduction .3

Kelly didn't say goodbye or goodnight to anyone that was waiting for them when they returned to Granny's Bed and Breakfast. She tugged Sammy up the stairs and into their room slamming the door angrily behind her.

Sammy watched her pace back and forth muttering to herself, his little feet dangling off the bed. He had long since stopped crying and was now just hungry.

"I'm sorry I didn't believe you about the monsters Kelly," he said softly.

"It's okay. I know it didn't make sense before Sammy," she answered absently. "And, right now, we have bigger problems."

"Are they going to call the police on us?"

"No, they're not going to let us leave," Kelly snapped.

"Would that be a problem? Maybe she won't find us here," Sammy whispered. "I could go back to school..."

"Sammy, them keeping us here is just as bad as what she almost did to us!" she growled. Sammy fell silent and Kelly went back to pacing.

There came a knock on the door, and Kelly jumped. She ran to Sammy and picked him up, dragging him off the bed and to the far corner of the room. Regardless of the fact that Kelly had locked the door it opened anyway and Elouise came in. She ignored the fact that the two were cowering in the corner of the room and put down two plates of spaghetti on the small table across from them.

"I figured you would be hungry so I brought some food up for you two," she said. "Also, Elsa—I mean Madame Silk—donated some clothes for you and the growing boy, so I've put them away in your closet for you."

"That's very nice of you, but I don't want any of your magic foods or special clothes. We're fine on our own, thank you," she grumbled.

"Oh you can see that too? I had a feeling you did. It was just a bit of a sleep draught in your milk. Just to help you poor things sleep. I wouldn't poison anyone, least of all our newest members," Elouise said in more innocent of voices, except Kelly wasn't listening to her.

Elouise took in the glare on her face and slowly stepped out. "Well, try to get some rest you'll have a busy schedule tomorrow."

The door shut and Kelly immediately dragged a chair over and propped it up against the door so that no one could get back in. Sammy went over to the table with the food and sniffed at it. "So, the milk really was purple last time?" he asked.

"See, I told you!" Kelly said joining him by the table. "And I don't want you eating this either!"

"But how come I couldn't see it?" Sammy wondered.

Kelly paused at this, "Uhm... I don't know. Think of it as a good thing, you've got a lot less to be scared of," she said.

"I'm really hungry Kelly, was the food really purple? Is this food purple?" Sammy asked her.

"Yes, it was Sammy," she said as she came over to the table. She looked at each plate and each cup of milk before she turned back to Sammy and said: "This seems to be sparkle free so I guess it's safe."

She took a hesitant bite as Sammy peered at the dish. He blinked his eyes hard and hoped to see some of the sparkles she was looking for but he couldn't see any. They waited together a few minutes after she had swallowed before Kelly nodded to him and said: "It's okay, you can have some."

Sammy went straight to shoveling food into his mouth while Kelly ate slowly. She didn't want to admit it to Sammy but she was mentally and physically exhausted, not to mention she was still coming off of her adrenaline high and dangerously close to throwing up because of nerves.

Kelly managed to keep herself going with whatever strength she had left to get Sammy in bed. She was almost ready for bed herself in a shirt she was pretty sure came from Cooper as the thing was plaid and absolutely massive on her when she spotted the dishes still on the small table in the corner. She knew the second she saw them that Elouise would find a way to get in the room to get her dishes back. So Kelly decided she'd take them back downstairs so Elouise didn't have an excuse to sneak back into the place.

She carefully removed the chair and slid out into the hallway. She crept down the stairs trying to forget how this had gone the last time she had attempted it and started at the sound of frantic whispered voices in the large dining room.

Kelly froze on the stairs and stared at the half open door.

"You've made a right mess of things, you did," Elouise snapped.

"She saw through my magic what was I supposed to do?" Franklin asked.

Great, so the zombie was still here. Why the hell wouldn't he just go away?

"I lost my temper that's all! She's fine, isn't she?" he growled.

"Franklin, she's stuck here and now, not only is she scared, she'll never trust you!" Elouise hissed.

Kelly forced herself to move at this point, she didn't want to hear any more of this conversation. She tiptoed down the stairs until she was at the front desk.

"I know that Elle, I do," Franklin replied and Kelly froze, he actually did sound remorseful. "I don't like that it happened but it did and it's something I'm going to have to live with now."

"Well, you're going to have to make it up to her," Elouise growled. "I'm not going to deal with her grumpiness for much longer, especially since she's going to be taking her anger about you out on us."

Kelly slammed the plate down on the front desk halting their conversation and then sprinted up the stairs before anyone else could come out of the dining room. Kelly got to her room and slammed the door shut putting the chair back in place so Elouise couldn't get in. Tomorrow she was leaving this place, even if she had to dip out on all her bills.
