60. Never Change

As the day started to turn into night, the members of the Dream Team that were left behind at the motel all decided to settle up in one of the rooms together while they waited for Taehyung and Jungkook's return. Jimin had taken Charming "scavenging" for food which essentially meant that they went and raided all the vending machines nearby. When the two had returned with their spoils, they all sat in a circle on the floor of the motel room; the crinkle of plastic echoing through the air. Ruby had her cell phone out and was looking at the message Taehyung had sent her about a half hour ago. The message meant that he was okay. Taehyung was alive. She didn't know why she kept fearing he'd slip through her fingers. He must know she was worried though if he was texting her. She appreciated how thoughtful and considerate he was.

"Did you ever think that Tae would be your soulmate?" asked Freddi as she leaned over to whisper into Ruby's ear.

Ruby's face immediately flushed as she hid the cell phone. Freddi chuckled.

"I mean...before this whole reality shattering revelation, he was your bias. He was your dream guy, and now you two are all lovey dovey."

"It...it feels odd, but in a good way," admitted Ruby in a whisper back. "I just fear that it's too good to be true. I worry that I will lose him."

"The dude sent you a text to let you know he'd be a bit longer," said Freddi softly. "I don't think you have to worry about that."

"What about you?" asked Ruby, deciding to change topics. "Did you ever think you'd be eating snack cakes on the floor of a motel room with Jimin?"

"Never," said Freddi with a small chuckle as she looked over at Jimin. "Maybe in my dreams, but never in real life."

Freddi admired Jimin from across the way as he leaned back on his hands; a smile on his face. Charming had said something to him that he deemed funny. Freddi knew deep down that she'd give anything for Jimin to be her long lost love.

After their snack machine dinner, Charming moved to sit on the edge of Ame's bed next to her. Jimin was sitting on the other bed with Ruby and Freddi. They all found some sort of cheap horror flick on the television in the room to watch together. Even though everyone else could tell everything about the movie was fake, Charming was still alarmed any time the prop knife was flashed or blood was shown. Ame looked over at him as she saw him jump again out of the corner of her eye, slipping her hand into his.

"You okay?"

"Yeah...I just...why do people enjoy watching this?"

"Watching horror?"

Charming nodded his head.

"Why do people enjoy watching other people be mean or nasty to one another?" asked Charming.

"It's an escape," said Ame. She shook her head; a small smile on her face. "Charming, don't ever change."

"Huh?"

He finally turned his gaze away from the television to look at her, noticing a doting look on her face.

"No matter what happens, I promise I won't let you go. You will be a part of my life like you asked," she said, "but I need you to promise me in return that you won't change. Don't ever change. You're perfect just the way you are. The world needs more people like you."

"People that have been animals turned human?" asked Charming with a teasing grin to which Ame playfully elbowed him.

"You know what I mean," said Ame with a chuckle.

"I know. I promise," said Charming with a soft smile. He squeezed Ame's hand, "And thank you."

She squeezed his hand in return, holding it as she looked back towards the screen. If things were different, she could see where Charming would be a perfect fit for her. However, her heart belonged to Jungkook. She knew deep down that it did. Every time she was with Jungkook, she felt complete. Charming would find happiness eventually. He was destined to. He was too pure of heart not to.

"Look, Mom. I'll be fine. I'm safe."

Freddi stood on the sidewalk outside the motel room where the horror movie was still playing. Her mother had texted her frantic about halfway through the movie since Freddi hadn't called earlier to report that she was okay. Her mother insisted on knowing that she was safe, and that she would be home soon. Freddi had slipped outside temporarily to pay her mother a call.

"Mom, I'm okay. I'm an adult now. Please stop worrying so much about me."

Freddi had her back to the motel room door so she didn't see a masked up Jimin slipping out of the room. Jimin closed the door softly behind him, crossing his arms across his chest as he stared at Freddi on her cell phone.

"I'm with Ruby and Ame and a few other friends," continued Freddi. "Trust me. They are good, decent friends...Mom, I promise I'm being responsible. Please stop..."

She jumped a bit when Jimin walked over to her, tapping her on the shoulder. She was surprised to see Jimin there holding out a hand for the phone. Handing the phone over speechless, she watched as Jimin took the phone and put it up to his ear.

"Hello, madame. My name is Park Jimin. I am one of the men with your daughter," he said. He paused as she no doubt was saying how she didn't believe that. He smirked softly, nodding his head before continuing. "I understand...I promise I'm not lying. When we get back, I'll come over and introduce myself in person...yes, yes...Your daughter is very capable and dependable. She won't do anything to cause you shame. I'll make sure of it. Yes...yes...hold on..."

He brought the phone away from his ear, handing it back to Freddi.

"She wants to talk to Ruby," said Jimin. "Just to verify I'm not holding you at gunpoint or something."

Freddi smirked. Her mom tended to get a bit over dramatic. That was where Freddi got it from. Nodding her head, she slipped into the motel room to give the phone to Ruby. After a brief conversation, Freddi's mom relaxed and the call ended. Freddi slipped back out of the motel room to see the still masked up Jimin standing on the sidewalk. He looked over at her when he heard the motel room door shut.

"Everything okay?" he asked.

"Yes," she said as she pocketed her cell phone. "Why did you do that?"

"I just thought it could help."

"You told my mom your name."

"Yes."

"Your real name."

"Yes. Is that a problem?"

Freddi walked over to stand in front of Jimin, shaking her head in utter disbelief.

"You're unbelievable, you know that?"

"Oh I do. I've heard it before," teased Jimin to which Freddi chuckled and rolled her eyes.

"Well thank you for doing that for me."

"Not a problem."

Silence stretched between them awkwardly for a moment before Freddi decided to break it.

"All this lovey dovey soulmate stuff seems to be floating through the air. I think it's affecting me. What if...what if we're like them though? What if we've forgotten who we used to be to each other, and are just left in some sort of weird limbo?"

"Well, suppose there is only one way to find out, huh?" asked Jimin then to Freddi's complete surprise.

Freddi stood still as Jimin slipped his mask down, stepping towards her to close the gap as his hands went to cup her face. His eyes closed as his lips soon sealed themselves over hers, kissing her softly yet gently. After the initial shock wore away, Freddi closed her eyes to kiss Jimin back. Nothing was exploding in her mind except fireworks, and as she wound her arms about his neck to stay close as the kiss deepened, she couldn't ask for anything more.
