51. Setting The Stage

"That's your job."

"Excuse me?"

Jimin watched as Taehyung slipped his shoes on by the front door. Taehyung was going to see Ruby at the cafe to talk about securing a location for later that evening. That would leave Jimin alone in the apartment with the reclusive Jungkook. Jungkook had been shut up in his bedroom ever since they arrived home last night.

"You heard me," said Taehyung.

He wasn't about to say the plan out loud for fear that Jungkook would hear. Taehyung grabbed up his black hoodie off a nearby chair to complete his disguise as he looked at the bewildered Jimin.

"What do you take me for?" asked Jimin.

"A charmer," said Taehyung with a quick smile, "Now work your magic."

Jimin grumbled under his breath as Taehyung escaped out the apartment door without another word. Jimin's eyes turned towards Jungkook's closed bedroom door, taking a deep breath to mentally coach himself before walking over to it and knocking. When no answer came to the knock, Jimin moved a hand to twist the doorknob slowly, pushing it in and open to see that Jungkook was curled up on his side with his face towards the shaded window.

"Time to get up," said Jimin as he entered the room in his white t-shirt and gray sweatpants from the night before.

"I don't have to. I don't have plans for tonight."

"Yes you do."

"Says who?"

"Uh me? Hello. Do you remember me? Park Jimin?"

"You're corny."

"That wasn't my name last I checked. I just said it. Aren't you listening?"

Jimin managed to duck off to the right just as a pillow from Jungkook's bed came sailing his way. It plopped against the wall before tumbling to the floor.

"What did you do? Turn into Jin? I am listening, but I'd like it more if you could leave."

Jungkook still couldn't get last night out of his head. Ame was making him all confused. He thought they had been making progress, and then it had blown up right before Charming woke up. Why was he having feelings for such an impossible woman?

"Well, you need to get up because I set you up on a date."

"You what?!"

That caught Jungkook's attention as he moved to sit upright on the bed and look over at Jimin. Jimin held up both hands in surrender.

"I set you up on a date."

"I heard that," said Jungkook, "But why?"

"Two reasons," said Jimin, "And I'll tell you those two reasons if you promise not to throw anything else at me."

Jungkook stared at Jimin before crossing his arms across his chest.

"Fine. Now spit it out."

"One of the reasons is because I'm tired of you sulking about after one woman when there are so many out there."

"You haven't even been here a whole twenty four hours," said Jungkook, "So you can hardly say that."

"Yes, but am I wrong?"

Jungkook uncrossed his arms as he slowly slipped a hand along the mattress towards another pillow. Jimin saw the movement and pointed a finger at him.

"You promised you wouldn't throw anything else at me," said Jimin. "So you better not."

Jungkook twisted his fingertips into the pillowcase for a moment as he stared at Jimin.

"Tell me your second reason and quickly."

"And second of all, you need to try out some new techniques. If you really are insistent on this one girl, maybe this will help. Besides, I haven't set you up on a typical date."

"Jimin, what do you mean?"

"I set you up on a blind date," he said, "And it's a blind date to the extreme. You are going to go and have your wrist tied to a woman. You aren't allowed to talk either. You just have to enjoy the night with her without saying a word. Maybe try out a smooch or two. It's a great idea. You need to trust me."

"It's a great idea, huh? Like those heart pants of yours?"

"You're not going to let that go, are you?" he asked to which Jungkook smirked.

"You're not going to let this go either, are you?" asked Jungkook in return to which Jimin shook his head.

Jungkook heaved a sigh before nodding his head slowly.

"Alright. Fine. I'll go. Are you happy now?"

"Yes," said Jimin. "Now make yourself useful and start getting ready."

"What time is the date?"

"Six thirty sharp."

Jungkook eyed the digital clock on the bedside dresser before moving to lay back down on his side.

"I still have several hours. I'll do it later."

Jimin sighed. At least he had convinced Jungkook to go.

"Dress nicely too," said Jimin, slipping out of the room and shutting the door just as another pillow was thrown. It missed him and hit the door.

Even though it was Sunday, Ruby had a brief shift at the cafe. Taehyung had told her when he left her apartment after talking to Charming last night that he would meet her there to discuss a location. Once they picked one out together, he would go book it. As he entered the cafe, Taehyung saw Ruby busily working to serve a customer. She noticed him come in and waved at him. He waved back before taking a seat at the table he had sat at when he first revealed who he was to Ruby. As Taehyung sat there to wait for Ruby to have her break, his phone dinged with a text. He dug it out to see that it was Jimin.

Jimin
Well
I got grouch monster to agree
I did my job.
Where is my reward?

Taehyung
🏆

Jimin
You're so funny. 🙄

Taehyung smirked looking up from his phone when he noticed someone standing in front of the table he was seated at. Looking up from the phone screen he saw that it was Talia. Of course it was. This woman was a worst haunt than a ghost.

"Can I help you?" asked Taehyung when he noticed she was just standing there and staring at him in his garb.

"Why are you here?"

"Umm...it's a public space. Pretty sure I don't have to explain myself to you," he said, "But if you want to know I'm here to see Ruby."

"Ruby is at work."

"Funny. I thought you were too," said Taehyung. "I must be wrong."

Talia glared at Taehyung for a moment, still not moving from her spot.

"You must think you're something special," said Talia.

Taehyung sighed as he put his phone away in his pocket, crossing his arms across his chest as he looked at the boarish woman in front of him.

"Nah. Not really. You on the other hand must think that. Why do you torture Ruby so much?"

"I don't torture her."

"You do," said Taehyung. "Do I need to list off examples?"

Ruby had finished dealing with the last couple of customers in front of her before moving to take her break. It was only then that she noticed Talia standing in front of Taehyung's table. She sighed, quickly making her way over. She paused a few feet away when she heard Taehyung defending her.

"Seriously, do I need to give you examples?" He repeated when she made no move to respond. "Because I can give them to you."

Talia had her hands clenched into fists at her side.

"Why are you such a...?"

"Careful," said Taehyung as he looked at Talia. "Whatever you say will paint a better picture of you than me."

Taehyung looked past Talia and noticed Ruby standing there, slipping one hand free from his crossed arm stance to beckon her over. Ruby bent her head down and went over towards Taehyung's table. Taehyung reached out to grab a chair, dragging it over so that it was positioned right next to him. She slipped into the chair and he immediately shifted his stance so that he could wrap an arm about her. Talia's eyes looked like little balls of fire.

"How's my girlfriend doing?" asked Taehyung as he turned from Talia to look at Ruby.

"Girlfriend?!" screeched Talia.

Ruby could hear Taehyung's small huff of laughter behind his mask while she felt as if her insides were about to become her outsides. Ruby knew that she and Taehyung had, had a revelation last night, but this was the first time he had vocalized what she was to him now.

"Ruby, your boyfriend has been sitting here insulting me this entire time," said Talia. "He's sick."

"He's very cool, yes," said Ruby deciding to focus on an alternative definition for the word as she turned to look at Talia, "And he hasn't been insulting you. You were the one that came over and bothered him. If you would please leave, we have some things to talk about during my break."

Talia looked at Ruby for a moment more before walking off. Taehyung chuckled a bit louder, keeping his arm about her.

"Sorry if I created a scene," he said. "That woman just doesn't know when to back down."

"Talia hardly backs down."

"Well she doesn't scare me," he said with another laugh as he dug out his phone again with his free hand.

"So we're boyfriend and girlfriend status now?"

Taehyung paused in unlocking his phone, turning his head to look at her. Even though he had his tinted sunglasses on, he was sitting so close to Ruby that she could clearly see his eyes looking right at her.

"Did I speak too soon, or..."

Ruby shook her head as Taehyung trialed off, shifting her body so it fit more perfectly against his side.

"No. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't hearing things. You know...like I thought for sure I was imagining you at first."

He chuckled.

"You need to stop believing I'm too good to be true. That could get to me."

She leaned her head against his shoulder with a smile on her face. For a moment, she allowed herself to stay like that. Ever since they had realized last night what they were to each other, they had grown so much closer. Ruby couldn't believe it, but she also couldn't be happier.

"Let's pick out a good location to rent out for tonight," said Taehyung as he opened his phone and pulled up the browser. "Then the only thing we need to figure out is the food."

"Freddi has that covered," said Ruby. "Her mom is a genius when it comes to cooking. We'll just have to swing by her place before tonight to grab it all."

"The plan is coming together," said Taehyung. "I just hope it works."

"Me too," said Ruby.

Ruby desperately wanted her sister to feel the same way she felt right now. She wanted Ame to be able to feel whole.
