48. It's Complicated

Ame hadn't been expecting the kiss from Charming. When he had leaned forward to press his lips to hers, she had stayed frozen for a second before eventually kissing him softly back. Their dancing stilled as the two of them kissed for a minute or two. Ame didn't know what had come over her. Normally she wasn't the overly affectionate sort of person, but yet here she was. As crazy as it all sounded, maybe Charming had become a human so that she wouldn't be alone. Maybe someone was watching over her, and Charming had been made specifically for her.

When they eventually parted from the kiss, they just stared at each other. Neither of them knew what to say to the other. Charming had a faint blush to his cheeks as he looked at Ame, reaching out a hand so that he could gently brush a strand of hair behind her ear.

"You aren't alone," he said, breaking the silence. "I will be that person for you if you will let me."

Ame looked at him for a moment as she reached up a hand to place her hand over the one that Charming had left lingering on her cheek.

"You're just saying that," she said. "Because you've never known anyone other than me and Ruby."

"Even if I knew a million people, there would be no one that compares to you," said Charming. "There is only one Ame, and I just took my shot with her."

She chuckled at his words which caused Charming's brows to scrunch up.

"Why are you laughing at me?"

"I just...I love how simple things - like locating a bag of nuts or trying on clothes - is so difficult for you, but saying such romantic things like that comes easily."

"It's just part of my charm," he said with a small smile which caused her to smile in return.

Ame moved to step closer to Charming, wrapping her arms about him as she hugged him tightly. Charming wrapped his arms about her back, pressing a kiss gently to the top of her head.

"I'll watch out for you and protect you," said Charming. "I promise."

"I believe you," she said. "Just don't disappear."

"I won't..."

They stood there in a hug for a moment more before Ame moved to start cleaning the apartment up. Charming followed after her, trying to help where he could. When the apartment was cleaned, Ame moved to test out Charming's futon. She laid back on it, staring up at the ceiling. The futon had been set up by the window so she could see the elongated fingers of the street lamp lights stretching across the ceiling. Charming moved to sit down beside her. He turned his body to look down at her lying down on the futon. It made him happy to see that there were no more tears in her eyes. Ame's gaze wandered from off the ceiling to lock with his eyes again. Charming felt his heart jump into his throat. What was this feeling he was feeling? He felt slightly nauseous yet excited at the same time.

"I don't know how you can stand this futon," she said. "It's kind of uncomfortable."

"It reminds me of home," said Charming.

"I should have made your cage comfier then," she said with a frown.

Charming chuckled, shaking his head.

"We don't have to talk about that anymore. That is behind us now. A lot has changed."

"Yes," she said, grabbing one of his free hands in hers. "And I like it."

She tightened her grip on the hand she was holding, tugging him down in the spot on the futon next to her. Charming allowed her to do so, lying down on his back beside her. He felt Ame adjust her hold on his hand, slipping her fingers through his. Here came the nausea again. He could feel the beef and rice trying to make a reappearance, trying to mentally calm himself down. Ame turned her head to the side to look at Charming.

"You're incredible," she said as she just watched him for a moment.

Charming's cheeks heated up with a blush as he turned his head to the side to look at her.

"Says an even more incredible person," said Charming, daring to lean forward and kiss her on the forehead.

"You missed," said Ame softly as Charming moved his head back to stay in his space.

"Huh?"

"Your aim is off," she said as she moved a finger to point at her lips.

He chuckled slightly as he looked at her.

"Are you sure?" He asked suddenly nervous.

"Yes," she said.

He nodded as he shifted up onto his side, rolling over onto her a bit so that his lips were locking with hers again; his eyes once more slipping shut. Ame closed her own eyes as she kissed him back, soon deepening the kiss with him. Charming followed her lead and picked up rather quickly, winding one of his arms gently about her to keep her close. They kissed like that for a small spell. When they eventually parted, Ame opened her eyes to look at him.

"You're really good at that," Ame said with a soft chuckle.

"You taught me well," he teased as he placed a quick kiss to the tip of her nose before pulling back to lay on his side near her again.

Ame watched Charming for a moment without saying anything. She then reached out a hand, gently stroking it up and down his arm.

"Thank you for being here," she whispered.

"You need to stop thanking me," he said as he looked at her, unable to help himself from gently brushing his fingers through her hair.

Ame smiled at him, letting out a small yawn.

"You should sleep," said Charming.

"But what are you going to do?" asked Ame. "You basically just got up."

"I'll stay up for a bit and watch over you."

"It's not like you need to," said Ame with a chuckle. "Ruby is the only one that is going to come home soon."

"Well, I'll make sure that she gets home safely then," said Charming. He bent over to press a kiss to her forehead. "Now sleep."

Ame nodded before letting her hand slip out of his. She soon rolled onto her side away from him and went to sleep. As she went to sleep, she couldn't help but to think back on the last kiss she had shared before Charming. While the kiss she had shared with Charming was absolutely wonderful, she couldn't help but to think on another kiss that had made her feel so much more complete. So much more whole. Where was the owner of those lips?

"Yes!"

Cupid's exclamation of victory at seeing Charming and Ame's kisses on the monitor was enough to be heard around the world. His hard work had finally paid off. Charming and Ame were now in love. They were sharing a kiss, and not just a kiss. They were sharing several. His work here was done.

Cupid had developed a complex for Jungkook and his insistence that true love was real. It had consumed his whole life for the last year. Other relationships had fallen to the wayside, and Jungkook and Ame had been his main focus. His belligerent ex-son - even if he could remember who he used to be - would finally be able to see that he was right all along. Love didn't form out of nothing. Love was orchestrated, and he was the maestro conducting it all. Cupid was so consumed between the three of them that he hadn't yet realized that Taehyung or Ruby had remembered that night. The two of them weren't even a blip on his radar.

Cupid looked at a monitor where it showed Jungkook still lying face down on the mattress. He couldn't help but to smirk as his eyes flicked back and forth between a replay of Charming and Ame kissing and Jungkook's dismal state.

He had won. He couldn't be happier.

Now that his work was done with the three of them for the time being, Cupid decided to take what he deemed was a much deserved break, wandering off on the monitors to revel in his victory.
