13. Making A Move
Later that night, Jungkook stared up at the ceiling above him. Sleep was eluding him completely. Jungkook was only able to shut his eyes for a few minutes at a time before what had happened after the concert with that woman replayed itself in his mind again. He had been interacting with some of the VIP members when he had noticed a woman being swallowed up by the crowd. None of the security guards seemed to notice her, nor did the rest of the boys. It was almost as if the woman was invisible to everyone's eyes but his own.
The look he had seen in the woman's eyes when she had looked at him for the brief second before the guard had come between them was burned in his memory. He had seen that look before. The fear. The heartache. The hope.
Sighing, Jungkook sat up in bed, running a hand through his hair. Every time he closed his eyes he was back there in that moment. He couldn't understand why he couldn't shake it. It was as if they had played similar roles once before.
Throwing his legs out of the bed, he grabbed his cell phone that he had left on the bedside dresser. He turned the flashlight app on, and used it to tip-toe gently out of the room so as not to wake Jin. Jin was sound asleep on the other bed in the room, snoring lightly.
The main room was empty - the other two bedroom doors shut soundly. As Jungkook used the flashlight app to light his path on the way towards the kitchen, he noticed a movement out of the corner of his eye. He was too late in realizing that the movement was actually a pillow being thrown in his direction. Jungkook let out an 'oof', the pillow knocking him somewhat off balance and making him stumble into the wall.
"Kookie?"
Jungkook looked over to the couch at who had chucked the projectile to see that it was none other than Taehyung. Taehyung sat up from his sprawled position on his back on the couch, looking Jungkook's way. Jungkook had forgotten for a moment that it was Taehyung's turn to sleep either on the couch or the cot. It was apparent that he had chosen the couch.
"You scared the life out of me, Jungkook!" said Taehyung. "I was having a dream about a burglar and next thing I know, I hear footsteps."
"Well, you have quite the aim," said Jungkook as he rubbed the arm that had gotten hit by the pillow, "and quite the strength behind your throw."
"What are you doing up?"
"I couldn't sleep," said Jungkook.
He turned away from Taehyung to continue towards the kitchen, knowing that the other was likely to follow.
"Why?"
"Tae..." sighed Jungkook as he opened the fridge, staring into the cold lit interior. He was exhausted even if he couldn't sleep, and he didn't feel like an impromptu therapy session no matter how well intended it would be.
Taehyung didn't say anything, but could see the younger's shoulders heave up and down. Without a word, Taehyung moved to grip Jungkook gently by the shoulders. He directed him towards one of the bar stools at the island in the kitchen.
"Sit. Let Chef Tae whip you up his speciality! On the house!"
"Tae. I don't..."
"Shhh! You must not disturb the master at work."
Jungkook put his phone down on the island, shutting off the flashlight app as Taehyung flicked on the light over the stove, beginning to rummage through the cupboards for whatever food was around. With them all parting ways on their month off tomorrow and it being the last day in this hotel suite, the pickings were slim. Jungkook knew that Taehyung was trying to cheer him up, and no matter how irritable he was because he was tired, he did appreciate it.
"Do I dare ask what said master has on the menu?"
"Ummm..." said Taehyung; his back currently towards Jungkook as he rummaged through the fridge. "This..."
'This' referring to banana milk. Taehyung put in front of Jungkook before moving to kick the fridge door shut with his heel, walking towards a half gone loaf of bread on the sideboard.
"...and toast."
"Toast?"
"Ah, yes. But not just any kind of toast! It's five star toast!"
Jungkook smirked. A small laugh tumbled from his lips when he saw Taehyung struggling for a moment to plug the toaster in.
"Sorry that I woke you," said Jungkook as Taehyung finally won the fight with the wall outlet, slipping two pieces of bread into the toaster.
"As I said, I was having quite the dream myself," said Taehyung before he turned around with shock. "Though, I suppose you were the burglar after all. You stole sleep from me!"
Jungkook - who had opened his banana milk to take a sip - almost choked on it as he laughed. Taehyung chuckled too then, successful with his cheesy joke as he turned back around to monitor the toast.
"Do you want to talk about anything?" asked Taehyung.
"I just...that woman..."
"I'm sure she was very grateful to you for intervening," said Taehyung.
"Yeah..."
The toast popped, and Taehyung buttered it before sliding it across to Jungkook. Taehyung took up a stool on the other side of the island, and studied him. Taehyung watched Jungkook just pick and nibble at the toast, clearly lost in his thoughts.
"You can't get her off your mind though, can you?"
Jungkook nodded as he swallowed the bunny sized nibble he had managed to take from the toast.
"Why do you think that is?" asked Taehyung.
"I don't know, and that's what's bugging me. I feel like I've seen that look before. That look she gave me."
"You mean that five second look before that guard got between the two of you?"
Jungkook nodded.
"The woman in red had that same look," said Jungkook. "The one that I've been dreaming about."
In most of his dreams of the woman in red, she normally had her back to him. However, there had been one dream in which the woman in the red dress had turned around. Jungkook - from where he had been standing - was only able to see her eyes as the rest of her face was hidden by shadows. The look she had given him had haunted him even after he had woken later that morning.
"So are you trying to tell me you think that woman is the girl of your dreams?"
Jungkook snorted then, taking another drink of the banana milk.
"You make me sound ridiculous."
"Well, isn't that what you are saying?" asked Taehyung.
"I...I don't know what I'm saying," admitted Jungkook.
Taehyung sat in silence for a moment as he watched the other continue to pick at the toast. He didn't like seeing Jungkook down like this. Something was off and not right.
"You can't go on vacation like this," said Taehyung. "That won't be relaxing."
"Wonderful deduction," said Jungkook a bit curtly before following it up with, "Sorry."
Taehyung shrugged. It didn't bother him. He got up from the island for a moment to go back over to the couch where his cell phone was before coming back out to the kitchen.
"I have an idea," said Taehyung.
"Being what?"
"We stick around here for our month off," said Taehyung as he unlocked his phone, pulling up the internet browser. "I'll rent the two of us an apartment, and you can see if you cross paths with this woman again."
"And how would that help anything?"
"Jungkook, she's robbing you of sleep. There has to be a reason," said Taehyung. "Even if the reason is just that you got momentarily caught up in being her hero, or that you thought she was attractive...we have to find out. Otherwise it will just keep haunting you."
"You act like you know it all. Where did you get your PHD?"
"From the I-Have-Eyes University," said Taehyung with a smirk. "Look, you have been acting off the last few weeks. I want to help. That's what best friends do. Besides, it'll be fun to just chill out for a bit. We can watch Netflix and chill while looking for your mystery woman. It'll be fantastic fun."
Jungkook couldn't help but to smile. The enthusiasm of the other was contagious.
"And you're sure you want to waste your own month off like that?"
"It's not a waste. I just told you. It will be fun. Oh, Kookie! Look at this place!"
Taehyung clicked a link on his phone's internet browser, spinning his cell phone around in his hand to show Jungkook the picture of the apartment. The apartment that Taehyung had found was in a nice location outside of the major city with two bedrooms and a beautiful balcony view. Plus it was recently vacated and open for immediate occupancy.
"Just say 'yes', Kookie."
Taehyung followed up what he was saying with puppy dog eyes which led Jungkook to eventually sigh and give in.
"Fine. Let's do this. You're insane, you know that, right?"
"Brilliant is more like it, but to each his own," said Taehyung as he faced his phone towards him again so that he could book the apartment. Thankfully the leases were on a monthly basis, so it would be easy for them to just stay the month.
"I'll probably have to do something about my hair too," said Jungkook.
If they were going to blend in and not attract any unwanted attention, Jungkook knew that he would have to dye his raspberry pink hair. He was leaning towards either a shade of black or brown.
"Does that mean I get to put on my hairdresser hat?" asked Taehyung, who already looked 'normal' with his honey blonde hair.
"If you wanted to help me dye my hair, I wouldn't say no," said Jungkook to which Taehyung grinned. For whatever reason, Taehyung had a thing for fashion whether it be dealing with hairstyles or outfits.
Jungkook finished up his toast while he watched Taehyung begin to make a list of things they would need to move into the apartment tomorrow. What the two of them were about to do was insane, and Jungkook knew that it more than likely would amount to nothing. However, as much as he didn't want to admit it, Taehyung was right. If he didn't try to figure out the reason why he felt like he had seen that look in the woman's eyes before, it would haunt him for the rest of his life.
Jungkook had to make a move, or he would regret it for as long as he lived.
