"Are you ready, Jaehwa?" Mina asked me about the fifth time this lunch. I purposely chewed my food slower to stall for time. It's not that I have anything against the Cupid Booth...

Never mind, that's a lie.

With a heavy sigh, I stood up from my chair. "Let's go."

Our other friends stayed at the table. All of them did the Cupid Booth last year when we were all freshmen since that's the first year you're allowed to sign up for it. I was the only reluctant one. I blame my grudge on Valentine's Day.

This is Mina's second time doing it. She got someone last year that she didn't know at all, so she was too nervous to start any conversation. Apparently, he was too, so nothing could ever spark. As for our other friends, they did talk to their 'perfect match', but Niku was the only one to end up with his. It lasted probably only three months.

Which brings me back to my claim: the Cupid Booth is stupid and doesn't even work.

My eyes traveled down the sheet of paper that was given to me for the price of a dollar. The questions consisted of ones related to 'favorite color?' 'hobbies?' and 'what do you want to do after school?'

I glanced over to Mina, who was already halfway through with her form. I quickly scribbled things down off the top of my head.

Mina took my paper after I folded in half to indicate my completion. She slipped both of ours into a box at the Cupid Booth.

"Now, was that so hard?" Mina asked me, placing her hands on her hips.

I rolled my eyes. "No," I admitted with a huff.

"Just wait," she grabbed my shoulders with excitement dancing in her eyes, "you're going to get your results back next week and you'll find the love of your life. Then, you won't be so sour on Valentine's Day."

"Yeah, totally," I sarcastically nodded my head.

Mina sighed, hunching her shoulders. "I want you to be happy, Jae," she mumbled as she dropped her grasp from my arms.

Now I feel bad. I've been dissing this whole plan in front of Mina when she just wanted to change my negative attitude towards this holiday of love.

I gave a reassuring smile. "You know, maybe this is good for me. Thanks for giving me this push."

Her face lit up a little and her pout disappeared.

After school was over, Mina and our other close friend, Yooni, came back to my house to hang out before the basketball game. The topic of Valentine's Day resurfaced in our conversation.

"I remember doing the Cupid Booth," Yooni smiled, looking back on last year. "I still talk to my match. I mean, it's hard not to when you go to the same school and he's in our grade."

Mina oohed hugging the pillow she was holding. "Eunsung, right? Are you two talking, or just... talking."

"Just talking. He has a girlfriend now."

Our smiles dropped. "That sucks," Mina replied.

Yooni just shrugged. "It happens. I actually did start to like him, but before I could even try to make any kind of move, I found out he recently got in a relationship."

"Do you like anyone, Jaehwa?" Mina asked me.

I sat, letting silence hang in the air for a couple seconds. I raked my brain, trying to think of anyone I would consider a possibility. After not finding anything, I shook my head. "I guess there's no one of interest to me."

"See, this Cupid thing is good for you," she told me. Mina reached over and gave my shoulder a small shove. "Now you can see who fits your personality perfectly."

I tilted my head back, letting out an annoyed noise. "Enough with this Cupid Booth and Valentine's Day stuff. Let's just go and enjoy the game."
