"Dark Rose!" I called to my sister through the brush. "I found a squirrel!" I turned around to catch it, just in time to see it scamper away. "Huh?" I poured, confused. "DARK ROOOOSSEE! The squirrel left!!" I complained, plopping onto the ground. Dark Rose padded out, sighing. "Oceana." She said in an obviously sugar-coated voice. "If you yell, you're going to scare away the prey."

"Oooooooooh" I said. "That's a good point...." Dark Rose facepawed. "C'mon, let's go find something else to brutally murder." I jumped up excitedly, following her paw-steps. "Yay!!"

Dark Rose and I padded home. She had caught a plump pigeon; I had caught a mouse. "Daddy!" I called when we got there. "We're hooOOOOooome!" Chocolate stuck his head out from inside the den. "Dark Rose! Good to see that you had good hunting!" He padded up to her, nuzzling her forehead. I stood back and watched as he praised her. He finished, picking up the pigeon she'd caught and brought it inside. I stood there, waiting for him to come out and praise me.

I knew it was in vain, though. I hadn't caught anything worth his praise. I silently brought the mouse into the den and set it down next to the pigeon. Chocolate gazed up at me, growling. "What a disappointment." He snarled. "You can't catch anything batter than a scrawny, old mouse." I looked down, waiting for him to continue. "I can't believe a murderer could be such a terrible hunter."

I sat up straight. "It wasn't my fault! I'm not the reason mom died!" I felt claw scrape my muzzle. "That's exactly what a murderer would say!" He spat. He scratched his claws down my flank, making me bleed onto the floor. "Your sister on the other hand...she's an angel. And don't you forget it!" He grabbed me by the scruff and dragged me out of the den. I lay there for a moment, panting. "I'm sorry..." I said, weakly. "Sorry doesn't bring back the dead!" He cried, swiftly turning and strutting back to the den.

I dragged myself over to a hollow full of herbs I'd collected and made myself a poultice, securing it with cobwebs. I laid back into the nest I'd made there. I was dimly aware of my sister walking in, running over to me. "Oceana, I'm sorry! I didn't mean this!" She gazed at my injuries. "Do you need anything?" I smiled at her weakly. "No, I'm good."

She nuzzled my forehead. "I'm sorry about this. You don't deserve all his wrath. If he's going to blame you for it, he should at least blame me as well! I don't know why he says I'm an angel. I so sor-"

I covered her mouth with my tail. "You always do this. It's not that bad! I'm telling you!"

"I know, I know." DarkRose murmured. "I know." She laid next to me, her fur brushing mine, and fell asleep. I purred, laying my head down and going to sleep as well.
