Choosing a path (7/11)

Before the dinner... meaning having the leftovers from the snack... they chatted a bit and once they digested the simple meals, they closed their cabin heading into their sleeper wagons. Each room had four beds and changing space. The bathroom with a shower was at the end of each long wagon.

Amy, Eclipse, Gold, and Silver took the first one leaving Shadow and Sonic together. The small demon picked the upper bed, tucking into the corner and to his shiver, the psychic pick the other one. There was something wary in his staring. The pink lass was actually glad to be left with the bottom bed. She was a bit scared to sleep so high.

For the demon, the night had been long. He was constantly waking up as the train moved and screeched and the amber eyes... he felt they were constantly watching him. Taking out the book was too risky. When the sun rose, they overcame a long distance, having more than one-third of the way behind them. They arrived in a big city and since the next train was departing in about three hours... it was a fun time!

Once the breakfast was over, Amy and Gold went to explore shops. Silver decided to spend that time with a coffee and newspapers. Shadow took the boys to a park where they could stretch their limbs. Eclipse was slowly getting used to his humanized form, realizing he was more conformable while sitting. Sonic challenged the demon to a race and it was fun. But just like every time full of events, it flew too fast making the next hours on the train look like a torture.

However, the girls weren't checking just the clothes, but some board games too. That made the traveling more bearable. And guess where the board was put? In the mid-air supported by psychokinesis. Amy just knew how to make the grumpy psychic involved. As they arrived in the evening in the next town, they realized they were lucky.

Originally they were supposed to wait several hours on the first-morning train but the night express, that was expected to be on its way an hour ago, was delayed because of some obstacles on the rails, that were reported earlier. That resulted in them getting seats there and having a chance to save many hours. Now they were glad Silver used his influence to hold the first night train, otherwise, they might end up with a day hold-up.

The second night was for the demon more bearable. Tho he was still waking up, he at least felt a bit refreshed in the morning. Yet again he didn't write a thing in his diary, but he wasn't discovered and that was good. It wasn't just him influenced by it, the signs of tiredness were visible on his master and Sonic as well. No matter how comfortable the train was it was still hard to sit all the time.

Then again, thanks to that last train, they arrived almost seven hours sooner, and the blue lad was more than happy to stretch his legs.

"So we are here," stated Gold getting off the train.

"Welcome to the Albion," announced Silver with a proud voice.

The newcomers had no chance not to look around. The platform was wide and clean, and a lot of people were getting on and off the trains on about a twenty rails. Over the platforms were the roofs with decorated pillars. The psychic left them with his tenrec partner, going to make a call they had arrived ahead of the schedule.

He then joined them in front of the station where they were waiting for a carriage. As he was getting closer he had noticed Eclipse was shivering and Amy was trying to soothe him. The psychic had no doubt it was because of the holy aura of this place.

It had more than one thousand and five hundreds of old history. Remembering many battles and many circles were laid down, capable of protecting the whole city for days if necessary. "Let's go," he said with a firm voice, calling one cab that was passing by. The children got inside first, then Gold with Shadow and lastly Silver, who stated their destination.

As the carriage was moving, they saw a lot of new things. The houses were bigger and taller, there were more cars of different shapes and colors. The pink girl was exulting upon glancing an emblem of her father's company. The only ones nervous were Shadow and Eclipse for obvious reasons. The small demon was constantly squeezing the ends of the scarf, crumbling it over and over.

His mouth was producing a lot of saliva and he was constantly swallowing it, almost thinking it was rock and not drool. His now brownish eyes were twitching, moving from one object to another, never staying in a place for longer than a portion of a second. Suddenly, his sight fell on the ebony priest and their eyes locked.

It was like everything around them stopped existing. The black hedgehog slightly smiled, nodding in encouragement. The small eyes become wider, not expecting such friendly gesture. Before he could react the blue lad shouted: "What is that huge building?" He was leaning outside, pointing at it.

"That's our destination," Silver informed him.

The pink girl softly pressed Eclipse's hand, not letting it go even when they were leaving the carriage. They stopped in front of a huge opened gate leading to a garden around the main HQ of The Order. If the branches were churches, this one was cathedral reaching to the sky. Each of the twelve towers had several bells and each was ringing at a different hour and only during big festivals, all of them rang at the noon.

The walls were beige, and the tall stained glass windows high above the ground were gorgeous, depicting numerous saints, unholy creatures, and legends. The roof itself was full of small turrets and pinnacles with fine decorations. It had more decorative objects all over the walls and roof, but it would take days to discover them all, and this wasn't the time for it.

Toward the doors were leading wide stairs. Gold and Silver were leading the group with Shadow and Sonic behind them. Amy made a few steps forward but had to stop as the small demon was unable to make a step. The pink hedgehog looked at his shaking body. She smiled, fully turned and offered him the second hand. "It will be alright," her gentle voice whispered.

He slowly accepted it, but the shiver didn't let go. This place was reeking of holiness so much he felt like plugging the nose. The hotness was filling his body and he would never get near this place unless he would have absolutely no... no, he would rather run towards his death than coming here.

"Come on, you slowpoke," called him he blue boy sounding confident, but only to cover his own anxiety. The rest of the group stopped to wait for them.

The small demon internally growled, looking at his legs. His master wasn't pushing him, but waiting for him to do the first move. 'I have to!! I can do it!! For my brother!' He lifted the leg, putting the foot on the marble stone... The first step, the second one... soon he reached the group, greatly surprised that he hadn't... exploded, that his cover wasn't blown... that nothing happened at all.

He let out a long sigh, letting go of one Amy's hand so she could walk too. He pressed her tightly getting a reassuring smile in response. The next steps were hard too, but he was able to walk more or less without a problem. Once they passed the first door, he looked over the shoulder. It was like he had left the world he had known, entering a completely different one... having no certainty to return home alive.

Gold meanwhile explained a bit about the head of The Order. He was the highest ranked man leading the Council of Twelve, overseeing S-ranked agents and giving them missions and doing many other things. According to legends, it was his ancestor who founded this organization and formed first groups of special priests to fight demons. This man himself was an active agent for about ten years before taking his current post.

They walked thru the central part, taking stairs to get into the second floor where the main office was. Eclipse was using his whole mental capacity to concentrate on his breathing as he was afraid he might otherwise suffocate. The pink miss' warmth was making it a bit easier but until know, he had never thought there would be an anxiety so big her touch couldn't completely erase.

The small demon wanted to run and run, to never stop, to hide in the deepest pit of the Hell and remain forgotten. This was the stupidest idea ever! He was walking to his death! He was the only hope for his kind! His brother entrusted him an important mission!! Heck, he was the one bringing it up! How can he fail now?! The pink girl felt his insecurity, holding his hand tightly, constantly whispering it will be alright.

After more steps, the group slowly stopped. The demon dared to lift his eyes, setting them upon a big double-leaf door, which was heavily decorated with carvings.

"Here we are," announced Silver and even he felt a bit nervous.

A silent voice called the demon, making his body jerk. "W-What?" he mumbled hardly having a voice capable of speaking.

"Want a cookie?" The brown round biscuit was in her hand. It smelled nice, but he could tell it wasn't made by her.

He nodded since there was no trust in his voice for now. He took it, nibbling it, trying to concentrate on the sweet taste... but the anxiety refused to leave him alone.
