Choosing a path (6/11)

The morning came soon... too soon for Eclipse's taste. It wasn't like his body was tired or he was lacking inner energy... it just meant he will leave this safe place to venture into unknown territory... the one belonging to his race's greatest enemy. After the breakfast, he watched from the roof how Amy said goodbye to many people, getting inside a big car with her parents. He couldn't go with her, not that he wanted to be in that metal thing, so he followed them from the sky.

He had found it strange no one paid him much attention, then again, who would expect a demon in a broad light? The car reached the destination in about a half of the hour. The hedgehog girl in simple dress went outside, knocking on the door. After a short while, the door opened and the psychic eyed her, saying: "What took you so long? Don't think you will have time to pick clothes and do makeup once you are a member of The Order," he smirked. He was wearing civil clothes... one of the many same sets he had.

Amy politely replied: "It's nice to see you too." She entered the house and waited for the small demon to come. He got inside thru the window on the second floor, joining others in the living room. There was one problem, that had to be solved before they could leave – Eclipse. Tho hiding his wings would be possible, his eyes couldn't be hidden not to mention his horns.

But that was something Gold resolved. Yesterday, she was studying different seals and she came upon some enabling altering one's visage. So she tinkered with it and now she tested five different variants. The fourth one seemed to be the most suitable, as it hidden the wings, horns, turned the sclera white and eyes brown and gave him normal fingers and toes.

However, this was just the first stage of his "humanizing" process. He had to wear clothes and that was something making him greatly unconformable. In the end, he looked like any other civilian. The brown pants were constantly getting in his way as he felt how the trousers legs were rubbing against each other every step. The skirt was robbing him of the air and he was thankful the first button didn't have to be fastened.

Yet both pieces were like a walk in the heaven compared to shoes... that made him the most uneasy. It was like having his feet squeezed all the time, being locked, unable to feel the dirt. It took him several minutes to get used to them, not falling forward. During that time his master explained the absence of his pets and exchanged information with the others.

"Let's go, we have already lost enough time," noted Silver glancing at the wall clock. "If we want to make it into Albion in three days we can't afford to miss any train."

"We are ready," said Amy, taking the small demon's hand and with others, they left the house. She took a note Sonic was wearing the clothes he had gotten from her, which made her happy. Shadow again borrowed the clothes, wearing the same style as the psychic. Gold was the only one, together with the pink lass, having any fashion sense. Tho her clothes were beige and simple, she had ribbons around her front quills and a short knitted poncho covering her up to elbows.

The girl looked at the building once more before getting into the big car. It felt strange... to leave it. The engine started and left the place of many memories behind. Her parents accompanied them to the main train station platform.

Once there, Adeline reached into her handbag, getting out a long red muffler and wrapping it around Eclipse's neck. "Take this with you. It was my first husband favorite scarf. He said it was bringing him a luck."

He was watching dumbfounded as his nose picked a lingering smell of positive emotion... at least he thought that since negative ones had a different odor. Amy's mother then hugged her daughter while her husband was shaking hands with the rest of the group. Shortly after that, their train arrived and people were getting out.

"Let's go," ordered the grumpy psychic. They were gradually getting on with Eclipse being the last one, suddenly he was hugged from behind. A soft voice whispered: "Be safe." He had no idea how to react to Adeline's behavior, yet again he felt warm and safe and he hated he had to be let go, entering the smelly metal vehicle.

The whistle sounded and with a few screeching sounds the train started to move accompanied by a long and inseparable trail of smoke. The pink lass was waving to her parents until they were hidden by buildings. With a sad smile, she closed the window, taking her seat. She kept watching the blurry scenery, realizing now how little she had known about this city, despite memorizing its whole history.

The first feelings of loneliness crept into her heart. Just like the saying, you will realize the real value of things the moment you will lose them. Her thoughts were interrupted as a conductor entered asking for tickets. Eclipse was scared to look at him, hiding his head, but the bear man paid him no attention, being concerned only with the tickets. When he was gone, the small demon sighed with relief.

"Don't worry, you look great," assured him the pink maiden.

"How many trains we will take?" asked the priest adjusting the tie. He was now sure this item was created by demons to make men's life harder.

"Just five," replied the other hedgehog. "We, after all, have to overcome quite a distance."

Eclipse shuddered, remembering his time with the compass. He asked about this Albion City since it was drawn differently from others on the map. Mr. Rose explained to him that was because it was the capital city of the Acorn kingdom. He never thought that would be his final destination.

He tried to take his mind off it by playing with the scarf. It had a nice red color... and he asked about it Amy because he had never seen such shade. His master was pondering about it a bit, before answering: "Carnelian... I think it's this type of red."

"How can you tell?" asked Gold.

"About a month ago my dad was delivering similar fabric and I asked about it."

While both girls chatted, the boys were lost. It was just weird looking red, so what was the big deal anyway? The small demon wasn't paying them any attention, smelling the subtle aroma of positive emotion. What was it? And... why was it smelling like that woman's hug? He had no answers for that so he gazed from the window, seeing the trees and towns to pass them until they reached the place of a follow-up train.

They, fortunately, had no delay so they used the spare minutes to have a small lunch before continuing. Silver meanwhile answered their questions regarding the next part, stating the following train after this one will be the night one, meaning they will have to sleep there. Well, the good news was, there was a sleeper wagon so they could at least sleep in a bed.

Once the next train set off it was apparent Sonic was bored as hell since he was constantly fidgeting. But it wasn't just him, no one except Gold and Silver were used to such long traveling. The tenrec tried to distract the children with simple games and succeeded in doing so. The priest gladly participated too and even the grumpy psychic was dragged into it.

After it, they enjoyed a small snack and talked about a lot of stuff. Eclipse especially asked a lot about their society and how their things work. Silver was unusually quiet, merely listening and stealing a quick glance at the demon from time to time. Unfortunately, this metal transport experienced some difficulties making them arrive at their next stop considerably later. While was Shadow sure, the night train was already gone, it was still on the platform. Once they get on, it started to move.

"How so?" asked Sonic. "Weren't we supposed to miss it?" He added, sitting by the window.

"If you know right people you can pull stunts like this," answered the psychic.

"What do you mean by that? Train have set schedule and any delay can cause a big loss," added Amy.

"When it was obvious we won't make it, I contacted the next train station asking for this exception. I don't want to be late because some technical problems," stated firmly Silver. "Just mentioning The Order was enough for them to make a magic for us."

"Isn't it like abusing your power?" inquired silently Shadow, who was now sitting in front of him.

"I don't care, The Order will pay the compensations," he waved his hand, gesturing this topic was closed.

The conductor came and had to print them their tickets as there was no way they could buy them beforehand. The lemur man was frowning seeing they were the cause of the delay. He expected some important looking people, but they were like... your everyday family group going for a picnic. He finished his job, returning to his post.
