(Third person POV)

Currently, a 13 year old black haired boy wearing a red hoodie is seen on the sidewalk.

He is currently doing some stretches and warming up before taking a deep breath. He then started to move.

After a while, he then stopped on a rooftop of a building and saw the view from above. He took a deep breath and exhaled. A smile was seen on his face.

Akiri: This never gets old

He took a moment to appreciate the view from above. He then started to make his way home. He went down by using the door that leads to the stairs inside the building. Once he reaches the bottom, he exited the building and went further ahead. He then looked back up towards the building which has a big sign at the front of it.

"RCT Inc"

Once home, he was greeted by a tall man with grey hair wearing a black suit. His butler that works there to take care of him and he was speaking in English with a slight accent.

???: Good afternoon sir. Have you been doing your routine morning run again?

Akiri clears his throat and started to also speak fluent English.

Akiri: Yes, I have

???: *sighs* I won't give you another lecture about how what you are doing is not safe for the hundredth time. Just make sure you are being careful sir

Akiri: I know. Thanks Alexander

The butler known as, Alexander just nodded. Akiri then went upstairs and took a shower and put on a fresh set of clothes. He then walked into his bedroom, which is also the master bedroom of the house. The room was huge with a queen sized bed placed against the wall. In front of the bed, a massive 100 inch TV on the wall.

The room was fairly clean even though he insisted his butler that he cleans his room by himself. He went to lie on the massive bed and grabs the TV remote from his nightstand which was beside his bed. He then turns on the TV and went through the channels until one caught his eye.

Reporter: The first VRMMORPG, Sword Art Online is set to be having a closed beta test in summer, next year. It is said that only a total of 1000 players are fortunate enough, to be able to be invited. Applications are now open to the public through the official Argus website and will be closed next week

Akiri: VRMMORPG, huh?

He pressed a button on his nightstand and after a while, Alexander came into the room.

Akiri: Al, get me into the beta test of Sword Art Online.

Alexander: Of course. Right away sir

Alexander then walked out of the room.

(Timeskip)

After watching a few more shows on TV, he then decides to head to the garage. Akiri walks down the stairs, heading to the garage, being careful not to make a sound. He slowly opened the garage door and turned on the lights to reveal his family's collection of cars.

He started at the sight of the vehicles in awe. He then quickly walked over to his car.

As he was taking his time admiring the car, he was startled by a voice coming from behind him, speaking in English with a slight accent.

???: Going for a drive again sir?

Akiri: Ah!

He jumped in surprise and he turned around to see that it was his butler and he is standing in front of the door.

Akiri: Al, you scared me

Alexander: Apologies sir

Akiri: How did you even know I was here?

Alexander: The door was open

Akiri: Oh

Alexander: Might I remind you that driving without a licence is against the law. You only have to wait only three more years until you can get a driving license.

Akiri: I know, but can I at least rev it a few times

Alexander: *sighs* here

His butler then handed Akiri the key.

Akiri: Thanks

Alexander: I knew you wouldn't be satisfied just looking at it.

Akiri pressed the button on the key and opens the door. He then went inside and pushed the start button.

Akiri: Oh yeah. That's nice

He decides to turn off the engine and he got out of the car. He then handed the key to Alexander.

Akiri: Thanks Al

Alexander just nods and took the key. Akiri just sighs and walks away. He then stopped for a moment and looked towards his car.

Akiri: (thoughts) Can't wait until I'm able to drive

(Next day)

Akiri is sitting on the rooftop of the same building after his running session. He is currently taking in the view of the sunset while in deep thoughts reminiscing his time here with his parents.

Akiri: It's already been a year since that day...

He looks down and pulled out two photos. One, is a family photo that was taken in front of their house. The other one, was a photo of both of his parents with a group of people wearing lab coats.

Akiri: (thoughts) I miss you, mom... dad...

After a while longer, he decides that it's time to head back home. This time however, the door that leads to the stairs is locked. Not wanting to go the long way around, he decides to go down by climbing down using the fire escape on the side of the building.

When he got further down, he needed to climb down a rusty old ladder. When he was halfway down the ladder, he felt the ladder starting to shake and he heard a snapping noise.

His eyes widened in fear as the rusted bolts holding the ladder to the wall has snapped and he begins to fall, everything that is happening felt like it was in slow motion. He hit the ground before everything went black.

(Timeskip)

(Akiri POV)

I slowly opened my eyes to see an unfamiliar white ceiling. I noticed the sound of a heartbeat monitor near me, so I assume I am in a hospital. I looked around to see that I'm lying on a plain white bed.

Akiri: (thoughts) What happened?

The door in front of me opens up and a middle aged man wearing a white coat approaches me holding a clipboard. Once next to my bed, he took a seat on a chair and began to speak.

Doctor: Good evening, Akiri Shiranobu, how are you feeling?

Akiri: I think I'm oka-

I then realized that I can't feel or move my lower half.

Akiri: I-I can't feel my legs. I-

Doctor: I need you to calm down, and listen closely to what I'm about to say.

The doctor then took a deep breath.

Doctor: The fall which you took have damaged your spinal cord.

I then noticed that my breathing is gradually getting heavier.

Doctor: You have been diagnosed with paraplegia. Paralysis to your lower body, meaning your legs no longer functions

I gasped and my eyes widened in shock. I feel my eyes start to tear up.

Doctor: There is still hope that you can recover, so don't give up

He then put his hand on my shoulder and look straight into my eyes.

Doctor: I'm sorry. We will do everything we can to help you get through this.

The doctor then got up from his seat and started to make his way to the door.

Doctor: Oh, one more thing. You have visitors

As if on cue, the door suddenly opens to reveal a girl with long chestnut coloured hair and hazel eyes. My eyes widened and I noticed tears running along her cheeks.

Akiri: Asuna...

She walked over to me and embraces me in a hug while sobbing.

Asuna: You idiot...

Akiri: I'm sorry

We stayed like that for a while longer. She then broke the hug and wipes the tears off her face.

Akiri: How long was I out?

Asuna: A few days. I was so worried

Akiri: I'm sorry I made you worry so much

Asuna: How are you?

Akiri: Well, I'm not badly hurt or anything. I'm not feeling any pain, so I guess I'm fine

Asuna: You're lucky it was only your legs. The doctor said you are lucky to be alive. A fall from that height, you could of...

She began to tear up even more. I then put my hand on her shoulder.

Akiri: I'm sorry...

She puts her arms around me again and I returned the hug while rubbing her back. We then talked for a while longer until, the door opens and a nurse walks in and told us that time for visiting is over.

Asuna: It looks like time is up. Don't worry, I'll visit you again tomorrow.

I just nodded and she waved goodbye to me and exited the room. I felt myself tear up as I closed my eyes and went to sleep.
