Chapter 3

It's been a week with his company now. I know, it sounds like a curse, but I really wish he would stay here forever. I've grown much of a bonding with a male who was completely non-existent to me before the past week. I have finally learnt to smile, which I thought I had forgotten. His lame jokes can make anyone's lips tilt into a smile filled with amusement.

"Knock knock!" He asked for the millionth time. I huffed in annoyance but decided to reply, in a rationalization to talk to him.

"Who's there?"

"Blunt pencil." Even though, I knew something stupid was going to follow my question, I still stupidly replied with my hands yet again restrained to stay at my back.

"Blunt pencil who?"

"Never mind it's pointless." His pun made me want to stab the same pencil in his eye. But I still responded with a chuckle.

"Look! We're making progress! From a smile to a chuckle! In no time, the chuckle will turn into a hearty laugh." He cheered like a five year old who was just given a candy.

His childlike side was quite adorable. You don't believe me? Well, the proof is right here! He fixed a depressed mind, broken heart and hurt soul in just seven days! Miracle!

"You don't want to get free?" His eyes travelled to my hands tied with the cold metal.

"Nah! I'm used to it." I hoped for an agreed answer but he decided to reply with something that that made my cheeks turn into a rosy pink shade.

"Why? Can't keep your hands off me?!" (Can't keep my hands to myself! Not funny? Okay, continue. *Walks away awkwardly*)

He laughed at my reaction and this might not be the first time I'm hearing him laugh, but it gives the freshness and energy that nothing else ever has. The whole evening was spent in him telling knock knock jokes and me huffing and sighing, hoping he would change the topic.

Everything was going smooth and the path for us two felt as if there were no boulders on it, until a voice made a big obstacle step in the way.

"Nigam! You're free to go!"

He sat straight up from his laying position, full of joy to get out from a hell like this, until he looked in my direction with a look full of sorrow and grief. I sealed my lips together and gave him a reassuring smile, ignoring my heart constantly pleading him to stay.

The officer tapped his foot impatiently as Siddharth didn't leave a second of contact with my brown orbs. He looked down at the floor, knowing he couldn't stay here. He probably had a career and an amazing life ahead of him, while I'll be stuck here, waiting for that special moment when everything will be fine and no one will trouble me. Death.

He got up and made his way to the barred door, looking back at me without saying a word, but his eyes screamed a million. His hand was grabbed by the stupid man as I hurriedly got up. He didn't look his way in the front but let his head turn in my direction as I watched him disappear in the hallway.

I was left all alone, once again. Life gave me a second chance and then snatched it away from me. Who will teach me how to laugh now? Who will give me the company I was longing for?

I know, I'll get used to it and everything will go the same way as it was before.
