"A... A... A... Excellent," Makenzie says as she goes through Samantha's homework assignment grades while they sit in a diner for breakfast.

"Oh, and by the way, your Old Man and the Sea report?" Luke asks with a proud smile, causing Samantha to nod as she remembers it. "From last week? You did so good. It was awesome."

"Thanks, Dad," Samantha says with a smile on her face as they fist bump.

"Yes. What's that?" Luke says as he notices what Samantha had been working on.

"Um, it's a social studies assignment," Samantha shyly says as she picks it up to hand it to her father. "It's a family tree. It's just a sketch."

"Oh, yeah!" Luke excitedly says as he looks at the sketch of a tree with four leaves on it. One leaf contains Samantha's name and one has his name it but the third leaf has a question mark in it while the fourth is blank by Luke's name. "That's our family tree right there, it's, uh, it's... super easy to read and very clear, yeah."

"But... I was going to use this," Samantha admits as she pulls out an old picture, handing it to her father. "I found it in the garage drawer. That's you, isn't it? Who's Jonah? I-Is that your brother?"

"Yup, that's my brother," Luke reveals with a sigh as the memories of the past come back to him, causing Makenzie to raise her eyebrows in surprise because she didn't know that Luke had a sibling.

"Why don't you ever talk about Samoa? Did something happen?" Samantha questions as Luke looks away from the picture while Makenzie watches Luke with peaked interest.

"In life, things happen. You may not want them to, but they do," Luke answers her as he tries to explain the situation without giving any details. This causes Makenzie to think back on her own family as Luke glances over at her, causing her to give him an understanding smile. "You just gotta do your best and move on. The fact of the matter is, I'm your family. I'm your people, me."

"And you're a whole lot," Samantha teases with a smile on her face.

"That's the truth," Makenzie jokes as well, causing Samantha to giggle.

"Oh, I am a whole lot," Luke sarcastically agrees with her as the waitresses begin bringing their food out. "Look at this, perfect timing." A waitress goes to hand him a plate with a small stack of pancakes on it. "Oh, no, this is for the mini. Thank you so much."

"Cheat day?" A waitress asks as she sets down a plate with a dozen pancakes on it.

"Cheat day, yeah! Thank you so much," Luke agrees with a smile before he, Makenzie, and Samantha begin to eat.

Makenzie tries her best to fight the queasiness she gets as Luke is eating the last of his pancakes while trying not to focus on the fact that she had already thrown up two times before they left that morning.

"Lucas Rebecca Hobbs," A man says as he walks over to them, causing Luke to freeze mid bite which causes Makenzie to raise her eyebrows in concern. "I haven't seen you in forever."

"Rebecca?" Samantha asks as she looks at her father confused, causing Luke to shake his head for her not to worry about it.

"Do you even age? How long has it been?" The man questions as he reaches the booth.

"Six months," Luke answers him with a sigh as he drops his fork onto his plate, causing Makenzie to relax as she realizes that Luke knows the man.

"Time flies," The man says with a smile.

"When we're apart," Luke retorts with an eye roll.

"What is your skincare regimen? Because you look like a young Shirley Temple," The man randomly asks as he motions for Samantha to scoot over by Makenzie since they are in a rounded booth. "Go, go, go, go, go."

"Daddy, who is this guy?" Samantha asks confused as she sits beside Makenzie, who looks to Luke for an answer as well.

"Well, this guy is, uh, is Locke. And he works for the CIA," Luke explains as he motions over to the man, known as Agent Victor Locke.

"Well, you must be wondering why I called me here," Locke says with a smug smile.

"Not really," Luke says with a shake of his head while Samantha says, "That doesn't make sense."

"Your dad and I are old friends," Locke explains as he looks over at Samantha while changing the subject.

"We're not old friends," Luke corrects while shaking his head again and Makenzie could tell that Luke didn't particularly like the guy sitting across from them.

"Actually, we're, um, we're best friends," Locke says with a nod as he pulls a necklace out from under his shirt. "Here's the half heart."

"I don't know what that is," Luke defends himself as he glances over at his daughter and Makenzie, who has her mouth slightly open in shock.

"We got some ink together," Locke adds as he looks at Samantha and Makenzie as well.

"We did not get ink together," Luke argues as he tries to look everywhere but at Locke while shaking his head.

"Oh, we didn't?" Locke asks as he flips his tie over his shoulder, causing Makenzie to look at Luke in alarm.

"No, we did not," Luke answers as he continues to shake his head before seeing Makenzie's alarmed look.

"Oh, interesting. Well, I seem to remember getting a little something like this..." Locke explains as he unbuttons his shirt to show the same tattoo as Luke's. "At one point on my body."

"Jesus," Luke says as he pulls his shirt down to look at his own tattoo.

"Christ, I miss our playful banter," Locke says with a smile.

"You have one minute to tell me what you want before I knock one of your lungs loose," Luke tells him with a glare, tired of his games already.

"You and I are after the same thing," Locke starts explaining while holding up a paper from a file. "Say hello to the CT17 virus. It's a programmable bio-weapon of biblical proportions. Affectionately codenamed the Snowflake." Makenzie and Luke share a look of surprise.

"What does a Snowflake do?" Samantha asks with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh, nothing much, just, uh liquifies your internal organs. Basically, it turns your body into a giant bag of hot soup," Locke answers her with a straight face, not even batting an eye at how young she is.

"She is nine!" Luke tells him with a glare while Makenzie attempts to cover Samantha's ears.

"I've seen worse," Samantha says with a smile as she shrugs while swatting Makenzie's hands away.

"Where?" Luke asks surprised.

"Game of Thrones, Janet's house," Samantha answers him as her smile grows.

"I've never heard of it," Luke says as he tries to act like he is trying to place the show which causes Makenzie to roll her eyes since that is the main show that they watch together.

"A Lannister always pays his debts," Locke quotes from the show which causes Luke to glare at him.

"You're never going over there again," Luke tells his daughter, who looks at Makenzie for help.

"Don't look at me, you told on yourself," Makenzie teases her which causes Samantha to lightly smile while shaking her head.
