Cure
Part 2 of Realm's request. Well, the first one, anyway.
Doc and Ren paced, waiting for some sign of Iskall. There had been no messages, no sign that he'd respawned, safely or otherwise. Minutes passed, before finally something broke the silence in the chat.
Iskall85: Okay, why am I at spawn island? I literally just spent the past week in a bed.
Ren and Doc simultaneously released a breath neither realised they'd been holding. Hopefully that would be the end of it. Hopefully Iskall would be cured henceforth.
Hopefully.
But that's not the prompt, is it? So instead of signing off, I'm giving y'all a Time Skip.
Ren fired off the rocket, soaring higher than Iskall could reach. Angry, the Swede fired off his own rocket, gaining on Ren. However, Iskall began to wobble midair, before taking a sharp plummet. Ren dove after him, catching the Swede and landing firmly on the ground. Ren helped Iskall stagger dizzily to his house, where he checked Iskall for a fever. Sure enough, he had one.
Ren sucked a breath through his teeth, knowing what that meant. He paced over to the window, where he told Iskall exactly what it was.
"You may not have been cured in respawn." He spoke, but it was drowned out by the shock of the realisation. He turned to see Iskall standing up, using the chair as a support.
Ren gasped a shocked sort of gasp as Iskall half-staggered across the room. Iskall went straight up to Ren and grabbed his sleeve, desperation clearly inked on his face.
"Then kill me." He hissed, a mixture of fear and anger poisoning his voice.
"What?" was all Ren could manage, he was so taken-aback.
"Kill me. I don't want to go through that hell again." Iskall was almost on the verge of tears, as he let go of Ren's sleeve, shaking. "I don't want to go through that hell again."
"Iskall... we still have time. And if we don't, respawn still exists." Ren tried to reason with Iskall, to no avail.
"I said KILL ME!" Iskall turned, roaring. "Or I'll do it myself." The Swede's tone went deathly quiet as he pulled out a sword.
Hands shaking, he plunged the sword through his stomach, as Ren was only just in time to be the one holding the weapon. So when the notification came up, Ren almost dropped the communicator.
Iskall85 was slain by Renthedog using Iskallibur
Thyme Skip! Who doesn't like herbs?
Iskall walked into the library to Ren asleep on top of a pile of books. He couldn't stop his mind counting the days until he'd fall ill again, but this sight came close. Iskall gently placed down a bed, and lifted Ren into it. He didn't notice the page that the top book was open to. It was on the one documented case of a raibes survivor, and how she was treated.
When Ren woke up, he saw Iskall asleep against the wall, and put together what had happened. He cursed himself for drifting off when he had important work to do, and set back to his task. He pored over the page, seeking an answer. He didn't find it until he turned to the next page, finding a passage that read:
"Instead of giving her up for dead, the doctors decided to 'shut the brain down and wait for the cavalry to come' by inducing a coma to give her own immune system time to build up antibodies against the virus"
Ren gently woke Iskall up, and recieved a tired slap from Iskall for his efforts. He showed Iskall the passage, who nodded until he was fully awake, and then looked at the page properly. He smiled, nay, beamed. He'd not have to go through that hell again.
I was gonna go full food mode for this Time Skip, but I just made myself hungry at like midnight, which is never a good idea.
Iskall began showing symptoms again when they were explaining the plan to Doc a couple days later. He looked at Doc as if he had two heads, as he did from Iskall's perspective. Ren and Doc soon twigged that something was wrong, and helped Iskall to the bed. It was now or never.
Days passed, where Doc and Ren took turns watching Iskall, making note of any anomalous readings. Iskall's condition was certainly deteriorating at a decreased rate, but the question was if it would turn around. And it did.
On the fourth morning, Ren came in to Doc scanning Iskall. For the first time in a week, Doc smiled, if weakly. He showed Ren the results: Iskall was on the road to recovery. Iskall could be woken up. He would be okay for real. The damage would last a while, but he'd make it out.
Iskall would make it out.
Alright, I've got another couple requests, plus a couple ideas of my own, queued up. The other requests should be done by Wednesday.
OdalRune, signing off from the past!
