The Lying Voice
Haha what if I made yet another AU where a Hermitcraft war escalated out of control.
Haha jk...
Unless...
Impulse was, for once, taking a break. He'd finished mycelium-ifying the few sickly patches of grass that Grian and Ren's sheep had left behind, and was now sitting on the steps of the town hall, just enjoying the view. He stretched, his shoulders popping, and then stood up, ready to do more 'diversionary tactics'. Until he heard Cub softly clear his throat behind him.
"Oh. Hey Cubby." He greeted, too nervous to turn around. A shiver ran down his spine.
"Hey Impulse. What are you up to?" Cub asked, seemingly friendly, but there was a slight inflection in his tone that set Impulse on edge.
"Not much." Impulse shrugged, finally facing Cub. "Enjoying the view."
"Yes, it's a real shame that the resistance had to spoil it with all that mycelium." Cub remarked. It took all of Impulse's willpower not to confront him then and there.
"Yes... such a shame." Impulse replied, forcing a smile.
"You have mycelium under your fingernails." Cub pointed out. Impulse clenched his fists, curling his fingers out of sight.
"Yes, because I was actually... I was digging up Mycelium, see, to take to the uh... the buyback, since, you know, I needed a few more diamonds to get enough ancient debris from — your shop, actually — to make enough netherite pickaxes to complete my latest, uh... my latest project!" He chuckled nervously.
"You're lying, Impy." Tango's voice suddenly came from behind him. Impulse gave a little yelp. "That's your lying voice."
"I..." Impulse trailed off, realised he was stuck between a rock and a hard place, and tried to open his inventory to grab his rockets and fly off. Unfortunately, Cub grabbed his arm before he could. Impulse sighed resigning himself to his fate. "Alright, you got me. I'm resistance." He raised his other hand in the air.
Cub took him by the shoulder and half-dragged him to his office in the town hall, Tango following behind to make sure Impulse didn't make a dash for it. Once they were in the office, Cub unlocked the cell, and shoved Impulse in, maybe a little rougher than necessary, then locked the door behind him. Impulse slowly lowered his hands.
"You will remain there," Cub ordered him, "Until I can arrange for you to... meet... with the rest of HEP. Tango, can you watch him?" Tango nodded. With that, Cub walked out, leaving just the two of them. Impulse was the first to break the awkward silence.
"Tango... how could you betray me?" He asked, using that all-too-familiar cadence. Tango chuckled, almost sadly.
"Sorry, my dude. HEP had a place for my specific talents, so..." he shrugged. "Still, it's all just fun and games, right? Just like last time." Tango continued. Images flashed through Impulse's mind, from the fungus sprouting from Ren's skull to the way Cub and Scar seemed to grin just a little too wide. He chose to ignore them.
"...Yeah." He said, in the end. "All fun and games."
Yeah, let's hope it stays that way, and absolutely no war crimes are committed. And nobody gets taken advantage of. And Tango doesn't blow anything up. Let's hope.
I've been Entropy, peace out from the present!
