Chapter 16 - What happened 700 years ago?
"Wait- I- you- you were Shadow?" I asked incredulously.
She smirked, "Yep. That was me," and then winked at my bewildered expression.
I raised my eyebrows and whispered, "Wow."
"Now that explains why I felt so strongly for you," I thought out loud while rubbing my chin.
With a sigh, I got up and gave her a hand.
She grinned at me and took it, pulling herself up. "We need to discuss a lot of things."
"Yeah, let's go talk to Alpha Taylor and Beta Selena first." I grinned knowing they were right outside.
It felt good to have my powerful senses of Omonen back.
"I missed you Mazikeen." popped in Rowena out of nowhere.
"And I missed you my beautiful wolf," I replied with slight relief, I couldn't feel Alastair anymore, of course, my strong wolf got rid of him successfully.
I looked back towards Sha- Amaris to see her raise her left hand.
She clenched her fists and then the cocoon of shadows disappeared into thin air.
As Shadow, they would have retreated into her but she too was different now, more powerful, way more powerful.
I turned around to see a shocked Alpha and Beta staring at us with wide eyes.
"M-mazikeen- Amaris- goddess how-" her eyes widened even more as she looked into our eyes.
My eyes widened in shock too as I realized she radiated a familiar aura, something from a long time ago.
Going through my memories I tried to figure out where I could feel her from and then suddenly it clicked.
"Are you the daughter of Cordelia and Blaze Swift?" I asked with shock resounding in my voice.
Her eyes went back to normal and she nodded proudly, "Yes, they were parents."
I zipped towards her and hugged her soaking in the familiar aura.
I knew she would be powerful when I felt for her in Cordelia's womb, but look at her now, she is so much more powerful than we expected.
I felt Ari zip behind me, I pulled away and she wrapped her arms around our godchild.
Right before going into battle, Cordelia and Blaze had proudly asked if us, the omonens wanted to be the godfather and mothers to their unborn child, and seeing and feeling their hopefulness to our agreement, we couldn't deny them. Besides, they were our closest comrades.
I was the one to let her know of her pregnancy too as I heard another heart beating within her one fine day.
I smiled as the memory passed by, of Cordelia looking at me in shock and bursting out in tears, both in happiness and in sadness.
She was happy to finally be a mother but sad at the fact that the child would be born in war.
"I promise you Cor, we will end this war before the child is born. I swear it on my life." I had said while holding her in my arms.
She stopped crying then, "You have no idea how much that means to me Maze, thank you, thank you so so much."
I smiled again while looking fondly at the grown woman that does so much good in this cursed world.
I looked into her strange yet beautiful eyes that had pale blue flames within them, now much more clearly due to my heightened vision.
She looked up at me in awe and I smiled at her in return.
She was a kind and strong werewolf. What she does each day fighting for the weak is truly admirable. She could be exploiting her goddess-given powers and doing what many would but I suppose times have changed. Maybe the people of this earth could have a change of heart after all.
My smile faded as I felt a sharp and intense pain ricochet in my heart and then throughout my body.
I gasped and almost fell to the floor but Taylor held onto me thankfully.
I pulled away my right hand to clutch my chest as the pain intensified.
"Rowena....wh..what is going on?" I groaned again and knelt on the floor.
"M what the fuck is wrong?? Talk to me damnit." cursed Ari while kneeling in front of me.
"I-I don't know M,"
"Sel call the pack doctor, NOW." yelled Taylor making me clutch my head at how loud it sounded.
I growled in anger wondering what the hell was wrong with me. I closed my eyes and tried to slow down my heavy breathing while trying to figure out what was going on.
"I'm not sure Mazikeen, but I think maybe it's because of when Alastair unleashed your dormant darkness....I thought that banishing him would get rid of it but- I...I don't know." She growled and I growled again with her.
It wasn't safe for the hospital. I needed to get out of here.
The growing overwhelming power within me threatening to cause massive destruction swirled wildly.
And I thought my body's defense mechanism and healing was the best on this planet. Seriously?? I growled again and summoned a rainstorm deciding to just become one with it.
"Ari don't let anyone look for me. I will be alright."
I didn't wait for her approval and with that, I let go of my immortal body and became one with the dark clouds of rain and thunder.
I felt instant relief as I became one with every single droplet and lightning causing the pain to vanish.
I looked down at the massive pack ground and smiled with pride at seeing how much it had grown over the past 700 years.
It was beautiful with lush green forests and now closing shops and stalls.
Whoops, guess I can at least stop the rain and so I willed the rain to stop instantly.
That caused a strange phenomenon of rain standing still in the air.
That looked creepy as fuck before I scared any of the pack members I let the last of it fall gently while lightning still surged around within the dark clouds.
I think I will stay like this for a while. I missed the feeling of freedom.
Amaris' POV
I stared are the black burned spot from where M has vanished and sighed.
Turning towards Taylor I saw her bewildered look and said, "It's alright, no need of pack doctors for now. Knowing her I'm sure she'll stay one with the storm for a while. She will be okay up there as she doesn't have a physical body right now, she isn't one with the storm, she is the storm." I smirked at their shocked expressions.
It was my right to show off my beloved sister's abilities.
They nodded respectfully and looked out the window in awe.
At least they knew better than to doubt my word.
"I'm sure you both have a lot of questions, don't be shy or anything, just ask away," I added a grin for reassurance but realized my sharp fangs weren't going to help much, surprisingly they didn't seem to mind, and smiled back.
"Yes, let's go to my office, it's soundproof and much cozier than just standing here."
I mouthed an "O" shape realizing that I could stand for hours without feeling anything but they weren't like me.
Though the power they radiated told me they weren't ordinary werewolves they were still mortal and didn't have as much strength. Unlike myself.
Realization dawned on me that I was now immortal. Unless that horrid weapon was still around I couldn't be killed.
I looked down at my increased height that was a few inches more than the Taylor whereas I towered over the Selena.
I felt my stomach with my hands to see I didn't have as much muscle as I did before only what I had built up in my warrior years.
Well, guess I'll have to build up my body from scratch again. It sounded fun, at least it didn't involve me killing innocents.
I shuddered slightly as the screams of my people haunted me.
*+=*+=*
I closed the door behind myself as Taylor and Selena went ahead to take their seats.
We were in Taylor's office now. Probably for the best as it was soundproof too, though people like me wouldn't have an issue hearing through such walls.
I sighed again eager to know what had happened after my death. And what of my brother.
Taking a seat I stared intently at the two of them.
"To start, I'm the daughter of your former comrades, Cordelia Swift and Blaze Swift." she made eye contact while smiling.
"I prefer to not talk about this fact and many do not know but I was born 4 months after you and the other omonen's deaths. Yet as I grew I developed the ability to read minds and control a form of protective energy that even Alastair couldn't touch, rather he'd be burnt by. What I'm trying to say is I know everything about what had happened with my parents in the entirety of their lives as they had requested of me to learn everything of their past before...before their deaths." she finished with slightly teary eyes.
I looked away at the massive window feeling sorrow for the people I had fought alongside in the terrible war, they had become my close friends too.
After a moment's silence, I nodded for her to continue.
"My parents were one of last few to stay on the battlefield, refusing to leave even as you and Alastair fought causing massive destruction to the whole battlefield, they stayed put and dodged each of the attacks as best as they could to their ability. In the end when Caelum had grown to almost 10ft the same height as Alastair, and as you and Mazikeen had fallen. He charged towards Alastair and exchanged many deadly blows, one after the other, they were light and darkness and even my parent's alpha visions couldn't follow their movements at all, they were a blur. They both were at equal power yet Caelum emerged victorious, most likely due to the unsurmountable rage that I could feel even when reading through someone else's memories."
I smiled sadly knowing it was just like him. Feeling proud of his victory.
"Alastair couldn't be killed, what did my brother do then?" I asked wanting to know for sure about what had happened.
"Right after that as Alastair lay on the ground almost about to get back up again, Caelum uttered strange words, casting an immensely powerful spell due to which almost all of his raw light engulfed Alastair, causing him to roar in anger and then he shrunk and fell a few feet apart from him, a powerful barrier that no one could infiltrate formed around them both made of pure light." She smiled a proud smile recalling the battle.
I smiled too but of sorrow yet happiness at our successful mission, but he was trapped with him now guarding him for 500 years.
"The battle was so huge that it caused the entire landscape for about 500 miles to change and the pack of werewolves that were one of your first allies then settled around the barrier to protect it. They are now known as the Blood Moon pack." She growled the last part, I hissed too, in rage.
The protectors of Caelum and Alastair were now the biggest cause of violence and pain?? How was that possible. I felt the nerves around my eyes blackening again.
"Calm down Amaris, I know you feel anger and I feel it too but we need to hear the rest of the story, of what happened to our friends." reasoned Elena, calming me a little though I still felt anger just below the surface.
"What of your parents? What did they do after the battle?" I folded my arms while laying back in my seat.
"They came back here and our pack started to grow, for the next 18 years they spent cleansing of the monsters that Alastair had created, those monsters had evolved to gain a bit of intelligence and caused terror for those 18 years but the last of them were exterminated as my parents fought their last battle and passed." she finished with a sigh yet pride shining in her eyes.
"I'm assuming that you too fought in the battles by then?" I asked with curiosity lacing my voice.
"Oh, yes, in fact, I begged to fight since I first got my wolf and since I was unnaturally strong they let me go on missions whenever a new creature's location was found." She smiled sheepishly.
I smiled back.
"I'm sure there must be more to how our pack's people having these powers? I sense Uncle Ol- I mean Apollo within Selena and Aunt Selene within you, and I'm sure the moon goddess wouldn't just give these powers because of how much good you have done in this world, how is that so?" I asked with curiosity lacing my voice.
"Honestly? I do not know either. Some people feared me and my powers and when I was younger I didn't have any friends. It was an unnatural power so I understood their fear but I still felt lonely. I begged the moon goddess for answers and one day I did get them, she said and I quote, 'These powers are given to you so that you can protect the weak, do good in this world and help others.' And so I did what was asked of me. That story is a cover-up to protect the pack, after a few centuries people of our pack began to be born with strange and unique abilities but because if anyone found out that people of our pack are born with such powers then....I'm sure you know what I speak of." she sighed and looked at me with pain-stricken eyes.
Of course, I did. I was part of the horrors that took place 18 years ago.
