Something was wrong with Thompson's family dog.  It just started with little things. First, she would go missing for a couple of hours during the day. Over a period of a few months, the dog would go missing for longer and longer periods of time until it wasn't uncommon for her to be gone for days at a time. She'd come back after every absence without any evidence of where she has been. The Thompson family's oldest son once tried to follow in his old truck, but she disappeared after a few blocks.
     Nobody knew something was wrong until she started to lose chunks of her fur. The dog was a large breed with beautiful, long, and dark fur. That fur started to fall off in ragged chunks. The Thompsons took her to the vet, but they could not figure out what was wrong with her. The dog was physically healthy, as far as they could tell.
     The dog's paws began to change next. They grew bigger, and the toes grew longer. She was quite the horrific sight by then; the only fur she had left was raggedy patches of stubble, and her paws looked much more ape-like. The Thompsons didn't let her into the house anymore. She scared all the young children in the neighborhood, but they only had to see her once or twice a week with how often she went missing. The eyes were the last straw. The dog's blue eyes darkened to a deep red color, and the veins popped out. It looked like her eyes were permanently bloodshot in a dark hue.
      The community voted to put the dog down, and the Thompsons did not argue. That thing was not their dog anymore. The police department was called, and an officer came to the house and shot the dog through the head. It wasn't until months later that they discovered the source of the sickness. Teens from the local highschool started to lose their hair, and rashes would appear on their skin. The Thompson's dog should have been a warning, but it still took many weeks for the people to realize that the nearby creek was filled with radioactive waste.
