Missing 411
Mark Ozman was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He spent weeks each year hiking through forests and up mountains. Many of his friends would later say that he made a point to hike off trail using a map and compass. Mark would camp in the woods with very little supplies needed no communication with the outside world.
When he was a day late to return from a trip, his wife wasn't concerned. Mark had probably just decided to spend an extra day camped on the mountain. That night, it snowed nearly three feet. When Mark didn't show up the next day, his wife called the police. She knew the area that Mark was supposed to be in, and the search began there. The operation did a grid search over ten square miles of rugged terrain. Tracking dogs picked up nothing. A helicopter was even flown in to scan the area. Nothing was found.
After a week of police and volunteers searching the area, one volunteer had ended up searching a clearing at the base of a cliff two miles out of the search area. There, a pair of boots and a heavy snow coat was found. Mark's wife could confirm that they belonged to Mark. The search team was quickly moved to center around where the clothing had been found. At this time, they were looking for a body rather than hoping to find him alive.
Mark's backpack was found the next day. It still had all his gear inside. Worst of all, Mark's tent was still strapped to the top. All his food and water were also inside. The only thing missing was a knife. The sheath was still there, but the actual knife was missing.
The search went on for weeks with nothing else found. Investigators could only guess that Mark Ozman had been buried in snow or dragged off by some animal. Both of these stories seemed unlikely. Mark, remember, was a skilled outdoorsman. He had spent the night in weather much worse than three feet of snow. It was also unlikely that an animal had attacked him. The search had covered miles and miles around where Mark's coat was found. There was no blood, no tracks, and no remains. It doesn't make sense for an animal to drag Mark so far to be out of the search zone. His coat and boots also should have been ripped or worn.
Mark Ozman's family never got an answer. He was just gone. Months turned into years and years turned into decades, and nothing of Mark was ever found.
The above story is fictional, but it's based on a series of strange disappearances. Some people disappear without a trace, some are found at impossible locations, and some reappear with no memory of what happened to them. I recommend searching "Missing 411 stories by MrBallen" on YouTube if you're interested in hearing the real stories. He uploads two, three, even five times a week.
