Chapter 12: Taking it too far
With our dad at arm’s reach, we would probably have enough information to bring down the Hollowed Man, and get him jailed or eliminated immediately. I hoped this would put my situation into order and let me live my normal life, but I still had the Hollowed Man to worry about. I wanted something better for myself, but I was mistaken, and I was given a life-worth of trouble. After all of that though, here we were heading straight back home, well, me and Zeta’s home, the home my dad was unfamiliar with. My dad rushed over to me and hugged me to the point of me suffocating a bit. I missed you, is this where you’ve been staying? With this cat-man?” Said my dad. I couldn’t really call him my dad anymore now that I was technically on my own, but it was about time that I called by his real name. “Yes, Devin, I’ve been here, and I’ve been taking care of myself.” I said. Zeta looked at me and shook a grin of disagreement. I put my hands up in fake confusion. “Wait, you’re acting weird, you never called me by my real name, and you’d never go run away from school just to live with a weird thing for a few days.” Said Devin. “I technically had no other choice, besides, you and mom never treated me like an actual son. I ran into him three days ago and he ended up getting shot, so I had to do something, so I knocked out the officers. The next day, I skipped school to find him and I attempted to heal him, but he did end up doing it himself, with a little bit of my help. I had to leave him here but I ran into some scientist who called himself The Hollowed Man. He pulled out one of his genetically made things that tried to attack us, but with his help, we won. I had to return home to get some things to help heal his wounds, but that’s when I found out that I couldn’t stay home any longer. So here I am, stuck here with you, Zeta and some Greek goddess in my head.” I said. Devin stood there staring at me with the face of infinite confusion. He seemed to understand a second after. “Devin, we need to ask you some questions.” Said Zeta. “Alright, go on.” Said Devin, agreeing. “First question; Do you know what happened to Zolan when he was at the science lab in 2009?” Asked Zeta. “Well, I ended up finding him on the bed of a medical room, and he was goofing around in the room, he seemed too excited and too energetic.” Said Devin. “Ok then, next question; What else did you see in that room?” Asked Zeta. “I saw some other kids in a room looking at some potions and medical equipment, while Zolan was alone in the medical room.” Said Devin. I looked at Zeta, hoping that he would come to a conclusion quickly. “Ok, next question; Do you recognize any of these kids?'' Zeta asked, showing my dad a few posters, in which I thought he pulled out from thin air. “I don’t know, they seem familiar, but I just don’t know from where. Oh! Those are the kids that went missing in… 2009!” Said Devin realizing a possible and sudden coincidence. “Good then, I will be right back…” Said Zeta disappearing. I looked at Devin, and he looked like he had a seizure. “What is this sorcery!?” Yelled Devin. As soon as he said that, Zeta reappeared, with a face of evil happiness. “I got the answer to all of our problems, but it will be hard to prove.” Said Zeta. “What would be hard to prove? What did you see? What do you know?” I asked. He looked at me with an evil depressed face. “He forced 16 kids to be experimented on and they turned into his genetic mutations.” Zeta said. “So, wait, you mean he basically murdered 16 kids?!!!”
