The Crazy Book Nerd
The lunch bell rang, indicating the end of the lesson. I packed up my school supplies, stuffing them in my bag so I could race to the library. I ran out the door and speed walked. Thankfully the library was close to my classroom.
I swung open the glass door and entered, scurrying to the back to reach the fictional section of the library.
The smell of old and new books was always inviting. It was one of my favourite smells in the world.
I browsed through the books, trying to find the series I had been hooked to read nonstop.
I ran my fingers along a couple of spines, feeling their hard and smooth surfaces as I scanned the titles
I found the section I was looking for. The colourful spines and the all too familiar dragon symbol was unmissable.
Wings of Fire was a series that ate a lot of my time in the afternoons. I was so intrigued by what was to happen next that I couldn't stop reading. Three weeks ago I started and ended up on the 14th book. I finished the 13th one last night, and now scanned to find the finale, The Dangerous Gift.
'Bingo!'
I had found it and outstretched a hand to grab it. Another hand touched the spine as mine did. My hand was rested atop a soft and gentle one.
I whipped my head to the left and saw a familiar face.
It was Damon. He was the quiet kid that rarely spoke. In fact he barely made eye contact and always sat at the back of classrooms.
His brown hair hung in his eyes as he stared at me. I only just noticed and saw the colour of his eyes. They were like the sparkling blue ocean against his sandy skin colour.
I felt like I drowned while swimming in them.
Our hands still touched and I turned to gaze at them.
'You have the most beautiful light brown eyes.'
I whipped my head to Damon and blushed as I realised that was his sweet and soft voice.
I smiled, studying the grey carpet. 'Thank you.'
My eyes drifted to our hands again. I dropped mine to my side.
'Do you mind if I take this?' I pointed to the book I so desperately wanted. 'It's the last book of the series and I've been reading it nonstop. It's the best series I've read.'
As I looked back up at Damon, I realised he never took his eyes off me.
Butterflies started to flutter in my stomach and my heart rate heightened.
A hand curled around my right one as Damon leaned close to my cheek.
His breath tickled my ear. 'You can have the book,' he paused, 'if you'll have me.'
He pulled back with the most sweetest expression. A twinkle of hope was in his eyes.
The quietest student in school falling for the crazy book nerd? Now that was romance I didn't read every day.
