3| Trip-crash 2

Yuki and Mingyu walked through the air bridge. And as a flight attendant smiled to them, Mingyu smiled back while Yuki just looked away sleepily.

They were walking through the aisle when Mingyu, who was walking ahead, had steered away from someone's bag that was leaning over onto the aisle.

However, it had to happen to Yuki.

Her foot caught into the bag strap, and she tripped.

Her hands flailed helplessly as she tried to grab something to save her from the embarrassment; but luckily she managed to grab the seats before falling over completely.

She was boiling.

She whipped her head towards the bag, and then to its owner.

It was the backpack of the boy she crashed into earlier.

Adding to the fact that he had his headphones in, he was oblivious to the major embarrassment his bag could've caused.

"Excuse me, your bag please." Even though she knew he couldn't hear her, she thought excusing herself was enough to make it fair to do the capricious thing she intended.

Glancing at the people lining up behind her, she grabbed the strap of the bag that made her trip earlier, and pulled the bag onto his lap harshly.

And without sparing a glance at him, she stomped the rest of the way through the aisle to Mingyu, who just got the thought to look behind for his sister.

He had a weird look on his face as he saw the pissed off look on hers.

The boy jolted up as the hot coffee made contact with his skin. Holding the wet shirt away from his burning skin, he looked to the back just to catch a glimpse of the culprit: the girl he had bumped into earlier.

He was able to recognize her slightly messy hair and creased clothes.

It was rare when the boy would drink coffee; now he regrets that he ever bought some because he's blowing pointlessly at the searing stain on his clothes.

Feeling a little dizzy from blowing too much, he huffed, and closed his eyes as he rested his head against the seat.

An old woman seated beside him gave him a tissue as she looked at him weirdly. He bowed his head gratefully and lowered his eyes.

*Trigger warning: depictions of anxiety*

Yuki took a deep breath and shut her eyes as the plane took off; the only sound that could be heard and that drowned any other noises was the loud rumbles of the engine.

It wasn't that she feared planes or flying in general.

It was the fact that the huge machine 'isolated' people in the sky meters and meters away from any land that scared the shit out of her.

What if there was an emergency that the plane had to land, so it would be attended? Or, what if, for any reason, the plane was running out of gas, or the engine was heating up? Would hundreds of people that were previously stranded in the air just crash down to land?

And only because these people wanted to travel elsewhere for personal businesses-like visiting their children, their parents, or just because a job required them to-they'd crash down and turn into roasted meat on account of careless mistakes?

Yuki let out a shaky breath as such thoughts raced through her mind.

Suddenly feeling a hand over hers, she jumped a little and looked to her left.

"Hey, it's gonna be okay." Her brother smiled reassuringly.

She nodded shortly and gave him a small smile.

"You know what I found out a couple days back?" Yuki said. "What?" He asked. "These seatbelts we're wearing aren't for safety at all," she said ruefully.

"It's like you're saying eating too much doesn't make you live longer," Mingyu said.

"Yeah, I know-wait, that's not even wrong; it's true." Yuki looked at him weirdly with knitted brows. "Yeah, I know," her brother laughed.

Yuki pinched his arm as she laughed along. "Hey, what was that for! Your pinches hurt as fuck!" Mingyu cussed.

"Eating too much does sometimes lead to your death-are you saying I'm gonna die because of food?" Yuki gasped in realization. "I guess you finally got the hint, dumb shit," Mingyu chuckled.

"I'm only a few pounds extra! Stop bullying my weight-it's not like I ate your food before." Yuki rolled her eyes.

Mingyu passed her a look of absolute disbelief at the 'It's not like I ate your food before' part. "Okay, maybe a couple times, in my defense, I'm older and I eat more," Yuki rambled.

"Anyway, wearing seatbelts ensures you're dead," Yuki started and Mingyu frowned at her.

"These assholes make us wear them, so if there was a crash, our burned corpses would stay attached to the seats, and they would know whose corpse belongs to who by the seat number," Yuki explained.

"What the..." Mingyu trailed off. "Believe it or not, it's true- what a sad world," Yuki scoffed and shook her head.

Mingyu knows she's going to keep thinking about it, but he also knows she's strong enough to go through it. Her mind can wander off to the strangest or the most terrible thoughts.

Mingyu has never known any person stronger or more stubborn than his own sister.

Even though he witnessed nothing that significant as to really support this thought, he was sort of sure that this was true; and that if she were to face anything tough, she wouldn't crumble like anyone else would.

The tough times they've been through?

One of the toughest was their parents' divorce.

Both of their parents didn't really show whether they cared or not about with whom either of their children ended up.

Her mother quickly remarried after the split and moved back to her hometown, Daegu.

Their father, however, stayed unmarried and never really changed after the divorce.

Their stepfather wasn't all that bad. In fact, he was very good friends with Yuki and Mingyu.

Also, something he could never forget was when he used to get bullied in middle school; but when his sister stepped in, they all hightailed it.

Just as he was lost in his thoughts, he felt some weight as something shifted onto his shoulder.

He looked over, and a small smile stretched his lips as he watched Yuki succumb to sleep.
