Fired Up
After discovering that Po had a crush on Tigress, Monkey and Mantis had a field day with teasing him on the matter. Po didn't really appreciate it, although he was glad that they made no mention of it in front of either Tigress or Viper. He noticed that Crane didn't get much teasing from Monkey or Mantis, but the avion noted that the reason for that was because, unlike Po, he didn't have anyone stating that he actually had a crush on Viper or the other way around. Po asked him if he did like Viper, but Crane answered by saying that he liked her as a friend, not romantically as Monkey and Mantis were trying to imply.
Monkey and Mantis were aware that Po did not want Tigress to know that he liked her, so when they went to tease the panda, they would do it very quietly so that no one besides Po really noticed. For example, they would whisper, "Hordes of bandits?" during the moments when Tigress was too busy sparring to eavesdrop which made Po turn red, they would snicker whenever Tigress left Po by himself after the two finished some sort of task, and of course, they would tease him about the matter whenever the boys were actually by themselves.
About two weeks after the teasing had been going on, Po walked down to the noodle shop so as to talk to his dad. It was after lunch and the students had the afternoon off as Shifu had to visit the Master's Council so as to help evaluate the clean-up of Gongmen City. When Po announced that he was going down to help his dad, Monkey offered to come along, obviously eager to hear more stories about his friend. However, Po declined, wanting a chance to remind his dad to not tell anymore embarrassing stories about him, and he had then headed down to the village.
"Dad?" the Dragon Warrior announced, entering the noodle shop.
The customers who were already inside of the noodle shop let out cries of joy upon seeing Po and eagerly welcomed him there. Mr. Ping, who was in the kitchen, let out an excited wave and called out, "Son! Come on in! I was just thinking about when you were going to come back down and see me!"
Po carefully made his way through the crowd of villagers and over towards where his dad was waiting to greet him by the front door of the kitchen. Po gave his dad a hug before saying, "Dad, is it okay if I talk to you for a second?"
Mr. Ping looked a little nervous, but managed to smile and said, "Of course, son."
The two headed into the kitchen where Mr. Ping began to chop up some vegetables. "What's the matter?" he asked nervously.
"Nothing really," Po assured him. "But I just wanted to talk to you about the embarrassing stuff you've been telling my friends lately."
"Oh," Mr. Ping said. He put the cleaver he had on the counter and then turned to face Po. "Why, what's wrong with me telling a few little stories about you?"
"I don't mind you telling stories, dad, but I'd prefer that you didn't tell the ones that could kind of...I don't know...be used for blackmail!"
Mr. Ping laughed. "Oh, Po," he said. "No one's going to use those stories as blackmail!"
"Ever since you told Monkey and Mantis that I liked Tigress, they've been teasing me left and right! Yesterday, Mantis tried to get me to kiss my Tigress action figure while I was sleeping! Fortunately, the gong went off so I didn't have to be spared that embarrassment!"
Mr. Ping held covered his mouth so as to avoid laughing at the idea of Mantis trying something like that.
"It's not funny, dad! Do you know what might have happened if I started kissing it and Tigress walked into my room to wake me up or something?!"
"She might think you really like her and she might be flattered?"
"Maybe. Or maybe she may get annoyed that I'm kissing an action figure of her and stop being my friend because I'm weird. Or something else."
"Po, she obviously likes you. Why don't you just tell her how you feel?"
"Because first of all," Po answered. "I have never seen her hint in anyway that she loves me back. Second, we kind of just got into the strong friendship zone, and I don't want to ruin anything by telling her I like her. She's taken a while to, you know, open up and stuff, and I don't want to be pushy and whatnot."
Mr. Ping sighed. "But you two look so cute together," he said dejectedly.
"Look, dad, I know that you like the idea of us dating, but now just isn't the best time. Okay?"
"Well, I suppose it doesn't hurt to wait," Mr. Ping said. "After all, slow and steady does win the race."
"Thanks. And about the stories you've been telling about me kissing the mop and the naked baby pictures you were showing of me..."
"I don't see the harm in those stories."
"The Dragon Warrior making out with a mop while cleaning up after restaurant hours doesn't sound embarrassing to you?"
Mr. Ping smiled. "I can't help myself, son," he admitted. "Those stories are just so adorable! And you were little; what's the big deal?"
"I was thirteen when I did that."
"Yes, and you're thirty now. Well, not by the end of the week, but still, that was still a long time ago."
Po sighed. "I know, dad," he said. "But there just some things that a guy doesn't tell his friends, and that includes stories that'll make them tease me because I did something when I was a kid that I never would want anyone else to know."
Mr. Ping went back to chopping up vegetables to put into his soup. "If you really don't want me to tell stories about you," he said with a smile, "I promise I won't tell."
"Thanks, dad," Po answered. He smiled at his dad and added, "Need me to do anything?"
"Table five needs a nice hot bowl of special ingredient soup," Mr. Ping told him.
Po walked over towards the boiling soup pot, pouring the soup into two bowls and carrying them to the table.
Later that afternoon, close to dinnertime, Monkey and Mantis suggested that the went down to Ping's for dinner.
"Why?" Viper asked. "So that you two can get more embarrassing stories on Po?"
"No," Monkey said. "Well, it's a bonus, but Mr. Hong the pan maker is hosting a festival in the village and I thought we should go down there and hang out."
The five masters were in the training hall playing a game Monkey made up called Blinded Master. One master would be blindfolded and call out "blinded". They then would have to find a second master by means of them yelling back "master". Tigress, who had been hoping to train herself some more, hadn't been completely thrilled by the concept of the game, but had been convinced into playing it. She was the one currently blindfolded and calling out to Mantis whom she was supposed to catch.
"That would be fun," Mantis said, standing on top of one of the alligator limbs.
"Ha!" Tigress exclaimed, walking warily over by the Adversary.
Mantis covered his mouth and hopped away as Tigress came over in his direction, tripping into the arena when she slipped on open air during the chase. She heard him hopping over towards the Swinging Clubs of Oblivion and ran over to him, Mantis ducking under the spiraled beams with the master right behind him. He then hopped up onto the platform, causing Tigress to hit her head and crash onto the ground. Viper winced. "Are you okay, Tigress?" she called over.
"I'm fine," Tigress assured her. "Although Mantis won't be when I get my paws on him."
"No need to be that aggressive," Mantis told her nervously. "It's just a small bump."
"Actually, this is for calling me a captor when I was bed-ridden. But I can include that alongside it."
Mantis gulped as she managed to get out from underneath the spiral beams and climbed back onto the platform.
"What about you, Tigress?" Monkey asked. "Interested in going to the festival?"
"The only thing I'm interested in at the moment is catching Mantis," the master answered, trying to listen for the bug. She got into a position to run and begrudgingly called out, "Blinded!"
Mantis started snickering from besides the door of the training hall. Tigress grinned and launched herself by the door. Mantis let out a cry of alarm and started to run. Tigress started to follow him when the doors flew open and Po stepped in.
"Hey gu-AHHHHH!"
He and Tigress went flying down the stairs where they landed hard on the ground. From on top of Po, Tigress sighed and said, "You're not Mantis."
"Afraid not," Po answered. He noticed that his friend was wearing a blindfold and was thankful for it as he felt his cheeks start to flush from being suddenly very close to her. "Sorry to disappoint you."
Tigress got off of Po and stood up, Po following suit and turning her around so that she was in front of the training hall. "You know," he said. "If we took this blindfold off, you could catch him a lot faster."
He went to untie the blindfold when Mantis hopped onto his shoulders and exclaimed, "You can't take it off! We're in the middle of a game!"
"Oh, you are?"
"It was Monkey's idea."
Tigress suddenly reached back and grabbed the bug with a grin. "Gotcha'," she said.
"Man!" Mantis cried. "Nice job, Po!"
"Um, sorry?"
Tigress reached behind her head and slipped the blindfold down around her neck. "So," she said to Mantis. "I'm a captor, huh?"
Mantis chuckled nervously. "Well..." he stuttered.
"Yep, that's what I thought."
She walked out of the training arena with Mantis trying to frantically squirm his way to freedom. Curious, Po followed her so as to see what she intended to do with the miniscule master. After walking for some time away from the training hall, Mantis got his pinchers free and quickly reached over to pull the blindfold back over Tigress' eyes.
"AHH!" Tigress screamed, accidentally letting go of him. Mantis wasted no time darting away from the master as she quickly yanked the blindfold back off of her face.
"I got him!" Po exclaimed, running quickly after the master. Mantis made a sharp turn to the left so as to shake Po loose, but the panda caught on and lept onto the master, catching him in a single leap. (In other words, he sat on him). Tigress quickly ran over where Po got up and showed a sore Mantis laying flat on the ground, too dazed to move.
"Ow," he grumbled.
"Thank you, Dragon Warrior," Tigress said with a smile. She picked Mantis up and began to walk towards the kitchen.
"No problem," Po told her, making an effort to not blush, but failing miserably. He stayed behind Tigress as she walked into the kitchen and grabbed one of the pots from the side of the wall. She then tossed Mantis inside, slammed the pot down on the ground, and sat on it.
"HEY!" Mantis yelled, banging around on the pot. "LET ME OUT!"
"Isn't that the captor's job?" Tigress asked slyly. "To hold people hostage?"
"I was just kidding around!" Mantis exclaimed. "Can't you take a joke?!"
"Maybe if you apologize and offer some extra condolences to make up for such harsh words, I just might let you out."
"COME ON, TIGRESS!"
Po tried to not laugh but couldn't help himself.
"What's so funny?" Tigress asked, eyeing him curiously.
"Nothing," Po assured her between laughs. "It's just...you weren't kidding...when you said you would...get even with him."
He started cracking up, Tigress chuckling along with him.
"It don't find all of this very funny!" Mantis yelled from inside of the pot.
"Of course you don't," Tigress said. "You're the one being held captive."
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry! I'm sorry; I won't call you a captor again! Now can you please let me out?!"
Tigress pretended to think for a moment. She then shrugged her shoulders and said coolly, "Alright, apology accepted."
She got up from the pot and took it off, releasing Mantis from his prison. The bug quickly ran out and hopped onto the table as Tigress went to put the pot back.
"Are you guys heading to the festival?" Po asked.
"Why are you going?" Mantis asked, trying to take a breather from being imprisoned in a kitchen implement.
"Of course I'm going. My dad and I have to cook for the festival. We're making noodle soup and tofu cake."
"Monkey and I were planning on going," Mantis answered. "I don't know about the rest of the Five, but we could convince them to go."
"Viper will probably go," Tigress replied, walking over to them. "She loves the dancing they do there."
"If Viper's going, Crane probably will," Mantis piped up.
Po cast him a look.
"Aw come on, Po. I gotta' have some fun with them!"
"I hope you don't tease them," Tigress said with an eye roll. "The last thing anyone needs around here is you trying to meddle in their personal affairs."
"I'm not!"
"Good."
Tigress went to walk out of the kitchen when Po called out, "What about you, Tigress? Are you going?"
The master paused in front of the door, turning her head slightly to smile at Po. "I guess I don't see the harm," she told him. "Shifu would proably want me to take a break from training anyway."
With that, she left the kitchen, leaving Mantis and Po alone.
"I gotta' ask you, Po," Mantis said when he was sure Tigress was out of ear-shot. "What exactly do you see in her? I mean, I'm not saying she's bad or anything, but she's Tigress. Master of everything hardcore?"
"She's nice when you get to know her," Po said. "And when she isn't being hardcore and whatnot, she's actually really fun to hang out with. Plus she has this awesome passion for kung fu, and she has a nice form when she fights, and even though she sometimes tries to use me as a punching bag, it's probably just her way of trying to express herself, although I admit I wish she wouldn't do it that aggressively. And then she had a nice smile when she does smile, and her eyes are so pretty, minus when she gets mad, which then they get kinda' fiery and...actually, she still looks beautiful when her eyes flare up like that-"
"So in other words, you like it when she's nice, you think her style is cool, and you think she's hot?"
Po turned a dark shade of red. "It's a little more complicated than that," he told him. "And a lot...nicer than how you described it...."
Mantis shook his head with a grin. "I wish you all of the luck in the world on this one, buddy," he said, hopping off the table. "I know Tigress isn't the most...open...person, so hopefully you can get some luck with charming her and those "beautifully fiery" eyes of hers."
Po's cheeks flustered another shade of red as he followed Mantis out of the kitchen. "Yeah, okay," he stammered. "Well, um...see you at the festival then."
He then quickly turned towards the gate, heading down to the village to help his dad with the festival preparations.
