Entertaining the Contained

The next morning, Po got up early again in order to help his dad. However, he decided to make everyone breakfast first since he didn't want to be rude. The Dragon Warrior quickly whipped up some dumplings, tea, and a small bowl of fruit, putting everything on a tray and quietly sneaking back to the barracks. He then put a different tray in each of the Furious Five's rooms. (Except for Tigress for whom he layed the tray on a bed table and put it next to her so that she didn't have to get out of bed). As he tried to squeak quietly back out of the barracks, he heard some of the masters stirring, obviously annoyed at being woken up. He then ran out of the barracks and sprinted towards his dad's noodle shop, the boards letting out tell-tale squeaks as to who had left the mysterious food in the barracks.

Po quickly headed down to the village, pausing in front of his dad's shop to catch his breath.

"Oh, son!" Mr. Ping exclaimed from the kitchen. "There you are! I was beginning to think that you overslept."

"Wha?" Po exclaimed. "No, of course not. I was just making the five some breakfast before I went."

"What about Master Shifu?"

"He's been relaxing in the mountains since we got back, so I didn't bother."

"Oh, alright."

Po then huffed into the noodle shop, grabbing some vegetables and cutting them up.

"It's really nice to be back," he commented as Mr. Ping handed a bowl of soup to a pig by the counter.

"And it's so nice to have you home safe and sound," Mr. Ping added, giving Po a hug. He then walked over towards the back of the counter and called over, "Do me a favor, son, and put some of the radishes into the soup pot while I fetch the tofu." With a seriouser tone, he added, "Don't eat them!"

Po laughed. "Don't worry, I won't." he promised. He glanced at the radishes and then did what he was told, although he had to admit that a fresh radish in the morning sounded pretty tasty.

Back at the Jade Palace, the masters were delighted to find that they had gotten breakfast in bed. (Obviously from Po, as he was the only one not in the barracks). Everyone ate up their food, chilling in their beds and shouting conversations across their rooms so that they didn't have to get up. Tigress, who had woken up to Po prior to him bringing the food in but had decided to just go back to sleep, was glad that Po had put her food somewhere within arm reach. (Viper still came in just to make sure that she hadn't tried to get back out of bed). The master, like the day before, ate her food as slowly as she possibly could in order to make the day go by faster. After what felt like forever, she heard Viper coming towards the door and the serpent master slithered in to take her empty bowls back to the kitchen to be cleaned up. Tigress was then told to stay put, causing her to let out an irritated growl; However, she did what she was told, knowing that it was bad for her to move around so much. Tigress leaned back in her bed with a sigh and closed her eyes. Maybe if she tried to go back to bed, the day would go by in a flash. With a slight moan, Tigress squirmed and tried to get comfortable, but she was wide-awake and unable doze off.

A few minutes passed by before she decided to gently get up. The master slid over towards the chest on her wall and opened the lid, taking out some paper and ink to draw. She then laid everything out in a neat order on the floor and proceeded to begin to sketch.

"Tigress, what are you doing?"

Tigress let out a cry of surprise, the breaks in her chest sending a nasty shot of pain through her. The master clutched her chest with a painful moan, saying, "Master Shifu."

"You're supposed to be resting in bed."

"Apologies, master. But what exactly am I supposed to do all day? I can't just keep sleeping the day away!"

"I understand your frustration," Shifu agreed. "I've been in a similar position as you well know." He walked over and tapped Tigress's shoulder in a way that meant for her to get up. The master did as she was told, wincing as she managed to get back into bed. "However," the red panda continued. "You need your rest. It's vital that you heal properly in order for you to get back to your training, so I'd appreciate it if you actually followed the doctor's orders."

Tigress let out a slightly irritated sigh. "Yes, master." she promised.

Shifu smiled at her. "In the meantime," he said. "Why don't I go grab the old dominoes I have stored up and a table so that we can play?"

Tigress smiled back, remembering the old childhood game that her and Shifu had played while trying to control her strength. "Sounds like a plan to me," she agreed. Shifu began to walk out of the room, looking back at the master for a second. "I'll see if I can find you a bell as well so that you can ring us up instead of having to shout or try to get out of bed again."

Tigress let out a quiet laugh, knowing that a bell was the last thing that Po had wanted her to have. About five minutes later, Shifu showed back up with a small bell and table as well as the box of dominoes. He handed Tigress the bell and set the table of next to her bedside, laying the dominoes out for them to play.

As the day drew to noon and then to midday, Tigress spent part of it playing with Shifu and then the other part drawing with the paper she had taken out earlier. Po and Mr. Ping, having spent a lot of quality time that day, decided that Po should probably go and hang out with his friends, so back up to the Jade Palace Po had gone. When Po reached the top in the mid-afternoon, he was greeted by Monkey and Mantis who were busy quizzing each other.

"Hey, Po!" Monkey exclaimed. "You're back early."

"I decided that I should at least spend part of my week off with you guys," Po explained. With a shrug, he added, "Besides, I promised Tigress I'd help her out whenever I had time."

Mantis and Monkey snickered in amusement.

"What's so funny?" Po asked.

"Uh, I think that your helping is going to come with some torture," Mantis told him.

Po eyed them. "Why?" he asked.

In answer to that question, the Dragon Warrior heard some loud ringing come from the barracks. He let out a groan."Oh no," he mummbled.

"Yep," Monkey replied. "Shifu gave her a bell."

Po sighed, starting to walk over to the barracks. "I just hope that she lets me sleep," he wished. After a few minutes of walking, he reached the barracks where he walked into Tigress' room. The master looked over at him, smirking once she saw his face.

"Good afternoon, Dragon Warrior," she teased, holding up the bell tauntingly. "Your old enemy and I have become well aquainted today."

"I heard," Po said. "I just hope that you don't try to call me for room service in the dead of night."

"I'll think about it. In the meantime, I'm bored of drawing and I was going to ask when we were eating so that I can head to bed early."

"Early?" Po asked.

"Yes," Tigress answered. "I'm trying to pass the time as much as possible and an early bedtime will help."

"Oh," Po said. "Well, dinner will be served later tonight, so I'll bring it when I'm done. No bell ringing, please." Looking at the bell, he added, "Anything else before I walk out and I hear the bell again?"

"Well, if you don't mind, I do need something else to entertain me besides drawing."

Po thought about that for a second. "We could do a sparring match in your room," he offered, like me and Monkey, or Viper, or somebody."

Tigress smiled. "I could use some action," she admitted. "I wish it was me sparring, but I suppose that'll have to do for now."

Po nodded. "Great," he said. "I'll go grab Monkey." And with that, he ran out to grab his friend.

The two warriors arrived back in Tigress' room in about two minutes and started sparring in order to keep her occupied. Because there was nothing else for Tigress to do, the friends had to keep up the kung fu for about three hours before Tigress dismissed them so that Po could cook dinner. Po and Monkey then wearliy stumbled to the kitchen where Po started to cook some noodle soup and delivered it to Tigress promptly upon completion. He then returned to the kitchen so that he could join his friends as well as Shifu for dinner. Afterwards, everyone cleaned up and headed towards the barracks in order to go to sleep. As Po snuggled up in his bed, ready to fall asleep, he heard the familiar sound of Tigress' bell from across the hallway. The master groaned and went across the hallway to see what she needed.

"Hey, Tigress," he grummbled.

"I'm enjoying this bell," Tigress admitted with a grin.

"Please don't get used to it."

Po let out a yawn and added, "What is it?"

"I just want to thank you for offering to help," Tigress told him, her grin turning into a smile. "It's not really fun being cooped up in bed for two weeks, so I appreciate you entertaining me and helping me out."

Po smiled back. "Hey, it's no problem," he assured her. "I'm always happy to help."

"Well in that case, can you run down to the village and grab me an apple?"

Po's eyes lit up in surprise and disbelief, but his anguish was short-lived as Tigress assured him that she was kidding.

"I'll only use it when the sun's up," she promised.

"Thanks," Po said. "I appreciate it."

"You're welcome. You can go to sleep now."
"Okay, thanks," Po said, walking out of the room and closing the door behind him. "Goodnight, Tigress."

"Goodnight, Dragon Warrior."
