Chapter 8: Weapons from My Realm
"I will now give you access to the forge. Weapons made here will be kept in the Skyvault Armory until you call for it."
"What forge?" Coing asked.
The Lady smiled and said, "You will see."
I was confused but she led us into a huge chamber with a pit of lava at the bottom. The Lady turned to us and. "This is the forge. Here I will help you forge weapons made of Weilensteel. These are weapons made from the essence of death/ they are made from me."
"If I had a forge half as good as this one..." Coing said wistfully.
"What's so special about these weapons?" asked Cognassier.
"You can call them anywhere," The Lady said.
"You mean I don't have to carry it around anywhere, I can just ask it to be present and it will."
"Yes," The Lady replied simply. "They will be stored in the Skyvault Armory for when you don't need them. They will be well taken care of and no one will be able to steel them. They will however be bound to your rings so if anyone kills you for the ring they will also get the weapon."
"What if someone steels our ring?" Aya asked.
"That cannot happen. The rings will remain with you until you join me again."
"So," I asked, "You said there was something special about the weapons. You didn't just mean the Skyvault."
The Lady smiled. "I see that the Topaz has granted you no small amount of perception little one. Yes these with these weapons in your hand you cannot lose a fight. They will protect you from finding me again."
The forge was actually quite simple to use. The Lady called out some type of silvery metal and had us make the weapon ourselves using our rings. Telekinesis, the manipulation of matter with the mind. That was how we made our weapons. The Lady explained how each weapon would work. Clubs and axes would have no recoil; bows would take arrows from the armory, arrows that would return to the armory after a few moments. Cuts made by swords would bleed more than normal and spears would be fast.
Coing was the first done; he had made a slender blade about the length of the iron bar he used against the Bruten. Cognassier made a massive Warhammer he could easily heft in one hand with the enhanced strength the emerald ring gave him. I felt a little of that strength coursing through me too. Aya made a bow and Biser created a sword. It was my turn. I had already decided what to make. It would be a sword. A sword that would last through the ages. A blade that would be known forever. I made an elegant weapon.
Going back to my place I barely noticed what the Quitte and Dunja were making. I noticed the Sennani girls though. They were making twin spears. Long with broad heads they crafted weapons as elegant as my own. They were truly works of art.
Kvitten made hers have flowing patterns of leaves running down the haft. The Lady had explained how no matter the engravings they would always feel steady in our hands and wouldn't ever bite into us. Kotogne however made hers perfectly smooth instead deciding to engrave and shape the spearhead. She made it so it reminded me vaguely of an animal's tooth.
"Now that you are all done making the weapons there is one last step. You need to name them."
I was wondering what to call it toying with Truesabre, and Lightblade when Biser spoke up. "Pearl Comet. I'm going to name it after my ring. It will be called the Pearl Comet."
"Very well Biser, call out 'Pearl Comet' when you need to be armed and it shall appear in your hand."
Aya was next calling hers 'The Songfire Bow' and Quitte named her bow 'Icebreaker'.
Cognassier followed Biser by naming his weapon after his ring calling it the 'Emerald Cudgel'.
"Everblade," I said; discarding the ideas of Trueflame and Bladestorm. "It shall outlast me so it will be called Everblade. The eternal weapon stored in an ethereal armory. It sounds like it came out of a story so it will be named such."
"Ha, what a great idea Sento," Coing shouted. "Well I for one think that's brilliant so I'll call mine Treeline. A nice compliment to elemental powers don't you think. A place of ice with eternal sunlight." Coing was obviously well pleased with his name and I smiled. It was kind of clever.
"I decided what this would be called when I made it," Kotogne said noticing our confusion. "You're all so short-sighted." She laughed. It was a tinkling laughter like that of her sister. It was quite cute. I smiled thinking on how much time I spent making the blade and waiting for the others to finish it. Of course a weapon needed a name what was it without one.
"Stingspear," Kvitten whispered. In the quite cavern we all heard her clearly. I finally recognized the leafy patters running up and down the haft of the spear. It was nettles. Stinging nettles. There was some poetic justice to that. I loved how her mind worked. If fact I kind of loved everything about her.
Dunja was last clutching her weapon. "This is dark and destructive. I made this because I was bidden. I have come to realize that hate and war are two sides of a terrible coin. That coin is ability and weapons. As much as it was the Bruten that killed my people; they couldn't have done it without weapons." Dunja was speaking softly, solemnly. "These are tools of destruction deserve no names. This shall be nameless."
"Very well," The Lady said, "When you have need of it call upon 'Nameless' and you shall be armed."
I looked at her staff. That which she had wrought was a replica of her old Staff of Wisdom. Not to ornate but still far from only practical. It wasn't the type of weapon you left without name. But, if the Lady High hadn't contradicted Dunja neither would I.
"I will lead you out and then I must leave you."
