Forget I Mentioned It
April ,2014 ,
FIANNA:
I sit here looking at what was a beautiful, delicious dinner five hours ago, when it was actually hot. Now, the chicken looks unhealthy, the vegetables are limp, and the gravy has totally congealed. Even the flowers on the table look defeated.
I pick up my phone and call my boyfriend for the umpteenth time, and for the umpteenth time, it goes straight to voicemail. He said he'd be home at six for dinner, and it's now eleven-twenty. I have a pretty good idea where he probably is, so I grab the car keys and head outside.
I pull out of the driveway and start my circuit. I know that he's hanging out with one or more of his bandmates, so I start with the closest house and work my way out. At the third stop, their singer's house, I hit paydirt, as everyone's cars are here. I pull up to the curb, get out of the car, and walk to the door. I ring the bell, and a few seconds later Juliet opens the door. "Hey there, Fi. Come on in, he's here, as you can see," she says.
"Thanks, Jules. This is getting old for both of us, huh?"
"More so for you, I'm sure," she responds.
We walk into the living room, and all of the guys are sitting around, surrounded by guitars, notepads, and empty beer bottles. They all look up, and my boyfriend says, "Fianna, what the hell are you doing here?"
"Did you forget that you were supposed to be home for dinner almost six hours ago, Ash? I've lost count of how many times I tried to call you, but your fucking phone is off!"
"That's because we're busy here, goddamnit! I can have dinner with you anytime!"
"You can, but you don't do that, or anything else! You promise me you'll do something, and then you never follow through. I hardly ever see you anymore, I might as well be living by myself, no more than you're home!" I shout.
"Didn't it ever occur to you that maybe I have more important things to do than cater to a spoiled little brat?" he yells back. "Do you really think I need you following me everywhere I fucking go, whining and nagging at me just because things aren't going your way?"
"C'mon, dude, seriously?" Jake says.
"Chill out, Ash," CC tells him.
"Well, what the hell do you call this? I can't leave the damn house without her hunting me down!"
"Well, if you'd answer your phone, I wouldn't have to, would I? What if there was an emergency? Seriously, Ash, is this how it's gonna be the whole time I'm...?" I ask, stopping myself before I finish the sentence.
"Well, you wanted to talk, so spit it out, Fianna!" he growls. "The whole time you're what?"
I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself, and look him in the eye. "This isn't exactly how I wanted to approach the subject, Ash, but... I'm pregnant."
Everyone else basically freezes as he stares at me for several seconds, then a rather unpleasant smile forms on his lips, and he says, "Well congratulations, Fi. Who's the lucky baby daddy?"
The blood drains from my head so quickly that it actually goes numb. "Excuse the hell out of me?" I manage to whisper.
"Well, you just said it yourself, we've barely seen each other for the last couple of months or so. Therefore, if you're knocked up, there has to be someone else in the picture," he proclaims.
I simply stare at him in complete shock, wondering who the hell this is, and what's happened to the man I've been dating for the last year. Then I decide that I don't really want to know.
"You know what, Purdy? Just forget I mentioned it," I tell him, as I turn and walk out the door.

ASHLEY:
"Dude, you did not just fucking say that!" Andy shouts as Fianna slams the front door, and everyone else is just gaping at me.
"Chill out, man, she was just trying to get attention," I inform them. "I heard her and Miki talking the other day, and apparently one of their college friends pulled that on her boyfriend recently, so she was pissed at me and decided to try to rattle my cage. Just wait, when I get home, she'll be cooled down, and she'll tell me that herself."
"That doesn't sound like her, Ash, but if she's really that angry at you, there has to be a reason. Did you really promise to be home this evening?" Jinxx says.
"Hell, I dunno! Probably, I guess," I sigh. "What's the big fuckin' deal, anyway?"
"The 'big fuckin' deal' is that if I pulled something like that, Juliet would knock me flat on my ass!" Andy responds.
"If you ever turn into this much of a dick, you'll fucking well be single again so fast you'll get motion sickness!" Juliet snarls, glaring daggers at me. "Now if you'll excuse me, babe, I need a change of scenery."
She stalks out of the room, and the guys just stand there staring at me, without a word. I fucking hate it when they do that.
" Dude, why do you always shut off your phone, anyway?" CC inquires. "You know she has problems with not being able to contact you."
Shit, here comes the guilt trip! But unfortunately, he's right. Her dad was killed in a car crash when she was a kid, and it was hours before anyone knew where he was, or what had happened, so it does freak her out a little when something like that happens.
When I think about it, I probably did promise to be home tonight, I just lost track of time and forgot. I'm not even sure why I flew off the handle like I did, I can't even justify that to myself now. Probably a combination of too much alcohol, and just not wanting to admit that I fucked up. Now I feel like a complete ass. I would go home and fix things, but Juliet took everyone's keys when we started drinking, so I'm stuck here until morning.
I pull out my phone and try to call her, but now her phone is off. Apparently she's giving me a taste of my own medicine, and I can't say that I don't deserve it.
Oh well, maybe it's better that I give her a little while to cool off anyway. I'll go home first thing in the morning and straighten this out. Everything should be better tomorrow.
