chapter 16-The Attack

Priscilla loved to run...her younger brother Puelo was born sick and one of his legs was under formed and weak.  He didn't live to be but eight years old.  As much as Priscilla tried to help him to do more than gimp and limp around on his own....it was no use.

Instead...she would secure Puelo to her back and carry him around as she ran like the wind.
Those were wonderful days...when Puelo was alive.  He was more like a son than a young brother to her.

So...one day when Puelo had gotten too close to the waters' edge and fallen in... it was too late before anyone had realized that the waters had claimed his life that day.

Priscilla felt so much heartache and pain about the loss of her brother child...that she moved from the village and was more one with the animal kingdom than she was with her own kind after that.

Getting home "safely" was all that she was focused on now ...she was making good time and progress.

Priscilla was pretty young when she retreated to the jungle...she was fourteen.  But less and less...some of the villagers would come searching for her due to her mother's requests.  But the searching for her stopped completely when they found her fine but grieving heavily for Puelo.

She became one with the tree dwellers...her primate friends...The Myonkas and The Chimpsuas were her friends and family now.  That is where she had many happy memories of Puelo that she still clung to.

When Puelo was between one and three years old...her primate friends used to carry and hold and swing Puelo around like he was one of their own monkey babies...so the Myonkas and the Chimpsuas understood her sadness when they signaled to her the sign for Puelo...Priscilla would not respond.

They sensed and understood that Puelo was not coming back...and the mommy Myonkas and Chimpsuas tried to comfort Priscilla by bringing their own babies for her to hold...as they kept her in the center core of their loving and protective numbers.

Priscilla was never really alone...except for these rare occasions when she would sneak away.  She did not want to have to worry about one of her primate friends following her along to the Ruki spot.

She felt safer as she crossed into her native territory...but something still did not feel right...so Priscilla would act as if the threat remained.  It was best to be over cautious and to take extreme protective measures when she got home...than not enough.  She would act as if her and her entire family's lives depended on it.

Priscilla sounded off her warrior call...and she was answered back in the far distance by the familiar call of One Feather.  One Feather was her number one...and her best friend out of all her elderly primate look-outs.

The entire jungle was a huge sounding bustle of monkey activity...and Priscilla would soon be greeted by her primate clan of more than 300 Chimpsuas and Monkyas...326 monkeys of all sizes and ages...the last time she counted.

What a homecoming!!!

Here at home...Priscilla was one with her surroundings.  Still...any jungle life had it's times of danger...but she just couldn't shake or disregard the feeling of impending danger still looming and lurking in the air.

It felt like she must take immediate action.  Priscilla would eat something substantial...then busy herself and quickly and get started on safeguarding her home...it seemed like it was going to be a test for the survival of the fittest.  Then she would rest and wait...for whatever it was that may be coming.

Elaka heard the whoop of her warrior call.  As well as the sound off of what seemed like the roaring sound of a thousand monkeys.  He thought...this is not an isolated quiet neck of the Jungly Woods.

He was not expecting this...this was yet another surprise and a shroud of intrigue that surrounded this jungle woman he sought after.  Elaka had picked the ultimate challenge...and one that was not a weak target for the taking in her own territory.

So Elaka would not advance any further...especially not with Zoota being visible....it was getting late in the day.  He signaled for his bird...and Zoota landed on his forearm.  Elaka tapped Zoota's beak twice, which meant be silent...there would be no more outbursts from the bird until he gave him the one tap command that talking was alright.

That would not be until the following day.  They would rest now and Elaka would skin and eat the snake that Zoota had alerted him to.  For now...they would lay low and come up with a Jungly Woods game plan...darn the monkeys!!!  This was the ultimate prize with the ultimate prize and challenge at stake.

Priscilla was slowly coming awake from a fitful sleep.  She loved her home and slept well when she was here.  That was due to her having the best alert system in the entire jungly woods in her jungle book.

Speaking of her alert system...She heard her Monkyas and Chimpsuas in a familiar greeting to her little sister entering into her home territory.

Time to get up and proceed with her safeguarding plans.   With her eyes closed and enjoying a long and elaborate stretch...she felt something land on her forehead.

"aaagh!!!" Then she heard the sweet bubbly laughter of her little sister Tukia as she peeled her pet lizard off of Priscilla's face.  Liki the blue shimmering lizard with a green underbelly skittered up on Tukia's shoulder.

"What brings you here little sister?"

"I saw something in a dream last night and it was scary.  You were fighting a warrior shadowed and cloaked in darkness.  There were weapons soaring through the air...and that is when I woke up. That is why I am here...I came to see if you were alright."

"Good...since you are here...you can help me set up booby traps and gather all of my weapons."

"I must tell you my sister child...there is danger coming!  I have been deeply sensing it already...and your dream was another sign and a warning...come...we must prepare."

"My suspicions have been right all along...something has been trailing me...let's get busy"...and so they did.

Zoota was grooming and preening himself quietly next to Elaka who was just now stirring from his slumber.

Elaka heard the nice and pleasant sounds of the forest buzzing in his ears.  As he looked up from where he was sleeping...he saw a nice and lovely fruit bearing tree close by.  Elaka then reached over to Zoota and tapped his beak three times...which was the signal for Zoota to fly up to the treetop and knock down pieces of fruit...a perfect start to the morning.

As Elaka and Zoota ate and shared pieces of the juicy delicious fruit...he strategized on how he would continue and proceed.  As Elaka was looking up at the morning sunrays coming through the canopy of the trees...the strangest tribal thing happened.

A hideous but spectacular tribal mask was spinning in circles and coming at Elaka.  He blinked his eyes several times and even rubbed them once.  The mask was still there and floating downward as it continued its spiral towards him.

Elaka got to his feet and was standing there...wondering...what in the jungly woods is this???

The forest was rapidly changing around him....and then a mist enveloped him completely.  It was silent and eerily still and like the entire world was on pause for this moment.   eventually the mist began to thin and as it was dissipating...Elaka found himself surrounded by a dozen little miniature tribal men.  It felt like he had been taken to a different time and place.

The miniature chief advances towards Elaka.  Each one of them was wearing one of the same masks that had come spiraling from the tree previously...and they were all also holding miniature spears as well.

The chief grunted and tapped his bamboo spear on the ground below.

Elaka extended a piece of the jungle fruit towards the chief as an offering.  The chief pierced it with his spear and ate it in acceptance.  That was a good sign Elaka thought to himself.

The silence was finally broken and the chief spoke.

"This is a divine jungly woods intervention.  What you do and what you decide from this moment forth...will make or break your heart and what actions you take will determine the chain of events to come from this point on.  This is a most serious tribal matter."

"Who are you???" asked Elaka

"We are your pathway guides to spare the entire jungly woods from great eternal sorrow...heartbreak...regret...and despair...for years and years and years...and lifetime after lifetime...hopefully.  We cannot say more.  It is all in what you choose mighty warrior and hunter Elaka."

"So, what will you choose Elaka?  You partook and ate of the sacred jungly woods fruit.  A tribal blessing is given to you to...and the time is now at hand."

"You know my name!?" spoke Elaka.

The chief replied back, "Yes...and this is for you."

The chief then handed Elaka a cosmically lit timepiece connected to a chain.  It was an ancient very old...old...time piece.  It had so many tribal symbols on it.

"Guard this with your life Elaka...your life and your fate and so many others depend on it.  Use it and choose wisely.  Learn and feel what your decisions and actions in life can lead to."

The mist began to gather once again and that is when Elaka realized that he was dreaming...or the fruit had put him in a trance-like state or hallucination...it all seemed so real...as he shook off the fuzziness in his head.

Elaka still had a piece of the fruit in one hand...and wait...something in his other hand as well.  he looked down...and wow...it was the oracle timepiece from the dream.  Incredible...so it was real!!!  Now what???

Elaka put the timepiece around his neck and looked at it once again.  It was so very fancy and intricate.  It was on the symbol of the fruit tree next to him now.  His thoughts then took him to the jungle beauty that he was pursuing.

A dial one of many, began to tick and move.  tick...tick...tick...tick...tick...tock...tick...the dial landed on a footprint symbol...just like the one the jungle woman had left in the soil two days earlier.

Then it began to click and move again.  tick...tick...tick...tick...tick...tock...tick...the dial then moved to symbol number two...a hunter's spear.

A song/melody chimed from the timepiece...and suddenly...Elaka found himself being miniaturized and pulled and drawn into the piece.  What was happening...and where was he going???

Elaka found himself trapped in a dark cave-like place...and immediately noticed that one of the walls was a lit-up picture wall...this was so bizarre.  There were two Elaka's...he was inside the cave...so he was inside as well as outside and beyond the cave watching himself on the strange picture wall.

On the outside...Elaka was watching himself and Zoota making their way to hunt the jungle woman.  The exact path he planned to take after his "sacred" fruit breakfast.

So, the beginning of this journey began on one.  It had many journeys with symbols all numbered one through seven.  Elaka would watch closely and try and learn what he was supposed to get from all of this.

The first part of number one had already begun to play out before him.  He could hear everything and see everything with crystal clear vision...it was so amazing and vivid.  Elaka had never experienced a show in a moving looking glass before...it was a virtual shock to his system and to his eyes watching all of it.

So, there he was ...as Elaka came ever closer to the dwelling place and the personal jungly woods territory of her.  He could hear two female voices speaking back and forth to one another.

The older more mature voice was serious and somewhat firm...but in a gentle and authoritative way.  The younger voice that was bubbly and chit-chattering away.

Elaka's style and nature was not hast-like not in the least...but with all these monkeys around...he chose to be hasty. He was ready to pounce and strike suddenly to get the upper hand in this situation...to get to the prize as he pounced at once.

It is all or nothing Elaka told himself silently.  That is when the looking glass Elaka saw his ambush and straight attack strategy moves fixing to take place.

The looking glass Elaka was getting anxious...it was like spying on himself...and it was pretty darn nerve-racking.  His leg muscles began to tense in his anticipation of his other self on the outside getting ready to actually put it all into motion.

Then he heard the outside Elaka's thoughts...Double prize...the younger one will be an extra bonus!!!

Elaka took a mighty lunge and was now running at full speed towards them with his spear held in throwing position.  As Elaka is running...leaping... bounding...and charging...the monkeys detect him.

All monkey mayhem and chaos break loose.  Monkey screams fill the air to screeching heights...and they are all coming and swarming towards him.  So many monkeys all at once...it looks like a continuous wall and almost solid wave of orange and brown fixing to crash in, around and upon him.

In too deep...Elaka continues...he artfully lunges his spear through the air, and it strikes the first target.  The younger girl screams an agonizing scream and crunches to the ground as the spear pierces her in the middle of the chest.

The jungly woods is overpowered by Priscilla's scream...as she runs for her sister child Tukia.  She now put herself in direct danger of being hit by the battle axe of the hunter flying through the air. Priscilla is in the perfect path of the death throw.

Priscilla dives...tucks and rolls...and the axe misses her by a mere fingers' width.  The blade of the axe thuds and sticks deeply into the tree behind her instead.  She is now holding her sister child in her arms as she kneels on the ground where she lay.

The instant after the battle axe throw...Elaka is taken down by a huge and raging very old and ancient looking monkey.  The sideswipe from the monkey...was so hostile...it clobbered him to the ground and knocked the breath out of Elaka.

With fierce growling and monkey teeth bared...and a thick arm of a tree branch raised in its arm.  It was ready to swing and smash in his face and his head to ruin.  Elaka could only hold his hands in a protective gesture and wait for the blow.

As Elaka realized that his last thoughts in this life were to be about how he was finally bested and defeated for once...and it was going to be by the hand and the strong arm of one pissed off and fierce raging monkey.

Like the saying...do not be too smitten or prideful of yourself.  Because there will always be someone or something somewhere that will and can outwit...out number...or beat and defeat the best of the best one day.

Elaka was prepared to face and accept these last moments of his life before he was taken out completely.  Suddenly...he heard the jungle woman shriek some foreign sounding ape command in ape Lango.

That is when the ferocious huge monkey...changed the direction of its swing and the major blow hit the ground viciously not far from his head instead.

The rest of the monkeys bunched up closer around him then as they held him down.  Then even stranger little hissing noises...and a sea of blue and green lizards with scratchy pit pat claws were all over him.

Elaka was trapped...beaten at his own game.  Now he was the one pinned and captured...as the "prize catch" or the "ultimate prize"... or prisoner.  Zoota was on the run flitting from tree to tree...doing his best to keep out of the reach of mad monkeys and angry tree lizards with bubbly throats bobbing in and out...that were steady after him as well...as Zoota  fled up and away from them and continued his squawking anxiously in the process.

Priscilla clicked her tongue in a series of clicks...and Elaka then found himself being dragged by six large elder monkeys by his arms and legs.  They stripped him of everything and threw him into a hanging bamboo cage.

It was a sturdy and fitful prison for a hostile...and an aggressive enemy like himself.  Now the angry and provoked screeching monkeys and the lizards with their tongues slithering in and out along with their red bubbly throats...had him surrounded.

Priscilla then directed her voice towards the hunter in the cage.  "You better hope that she lives and does not die enemy hunter...or I will finish you off myself!!!"

Priscilla then breaks the spear in her sister child's chest off shorter and picks her up in her arms so she can carry Tukia.

"I shall return...and it shall be seen whatever fate awaits you!!!"
