Your Pov,
The carriage stopped back in front of the (L/n)'s manor and I thanked the driver as I started walking my way back into the manor, deep in my thoughts.
Granny's right. We never found Edward afterwards so, maybe. Just maybe, there's still a little chance that Edward is still out there...somewhere. "Oh, (Y/n)? You're back," I heard Loen's voice and I looked up to see him standing there at the top of the stairs, already well-dressed in a fine black suit. For a second, I imagined how Edward would look like in a suit as well before I shook my head and greeted my brother, "My, my, look who's all dressed up for his wedding."
Loen shrugged his shoulders lightly with a sheepish smile, "Have to dress the part, right? Did you have a good ti-" he abruptly stopped talking in mid-sentence and stared at my face intensely, making me confuse. "Hey...are you okay? Your eyes look a little bit puffy," he said and my eyes widened when I realized that it must have become like that because I cried so much not too long ago.
Ah, I really didn't want Loen to see me like that, especially not on this day. "Ah, don't worry. It must have been become like that because I didn't sleep well very much these days. Don't worry, I'll just cover it with a little makeup and it will go away," I said, quickly making up an excuse as I quickly slipped away to my room though I know Loen knew me better and that he didn't really buy my excuse.
Once I reached to my room, I quickly grabbed my bathrobe and dived right into the bath, cleaning myself quickly to prepare myself so, I could welcome Lyra and her family. I stepped out of the bathroom and headed towards my wardrobe to pick and outfit. "Mm hm, I'll just wear this," I hummed to myself and took out a gown just as Madame Carlotta came rushing into my room, panting heavily.
"My lady! Welcome back and I am sorry I was late. I didn't realize you were back yet. Blimey, you've already even taken a bath. How quick you are!" she rambled on through heavy pants which told me that she must've run all the way to my room.
"Breathe, Carlotta. You're not late and I know you're busy preparing everything for the ceremony and checking on Chef Louis in the kitchen from time to time. Plus, you know I can take care of myself and also, don't push yourself too hard, alright?" I said and Carlotta just chuckled, taking out a corset for me from my wardrobe. "I know. I know, dear. I'll help you get dressed anyway, alright? I can help you tighten your corset," she offered, making me laugh dryly.
"That thing is literally going to kill me with suffocating hours for two days, but it's my brother's wedding so, I won't complain this time," I jokingly said, making Carlotta laugh. She started helping me with the corset and after gasping harshly for the dear fresh air, the corset was finally tightened enough for my own liking, but I decided to not to think about it since everything must go perfect until Loen's wedding is over. I put on my gown and started combing my hair, doing as quickly as I can to be ready.
[This is how your dress looks like, but you can just imagine with other dresses if you don't like it]
After applying enough makeup to cover my puffy eyes, I thanked Carlotta for helping me get dressed and just then, we heard the gates of our family's ground opening which told us that the Evans have arrived on the exact timing. "And not a minute too soon. I will see you later, Carlotta," I said and Carlotta nodded gleefully as the two of us stepped out of my room and immediately started heading towards the stairs. Carlotta escorted me there until we saw my father, (F/n), and Loen waiting for me at the top of the stairs before she excused herself and left. "Greetings, father," I greeted politely with a small curtsy and my father nodded approvingly as the three of us started descending down the stairs together.
"(Y/n), Loen, Aside from the Evans, there will be two more guests joining us early today before the actual wedding tomorrow. I want both of you to get along with them, alright?" father said, making Loen and I share a look before we replied at the same time, "Yes, father."
Loen gave me the look that says 'Watch out. That's probably them' look and I resisted the urge to groan in frustration as we continued to head down the stairs. Mr. Hasron bowed to us as a greeting and I gave a small bow of my own in return to show my respect. The door bell rang and Mr. Harson turned on his heels to get to the door. He opened the door and I smiled when I see my best friend, Lyra, standing there with a nervous smile on her face, along with her family. Our eyes met and the two of us smile excitedly at each other before they started walking into the manor with Mr. Harson closing the door behind them.
"Ah, (F/n), my friend!" Mr. Evan greeted gleefully as he picked up his pace and pulled my father into a happy, friendly hug which my father returned it mutually. "Felix, welcome, my friend!" "And Hannah, you look as dazzling as ever too," my father said with a smile, turning to greet Mrs. Evan who smiled at his words. I gave a curtsy to them as a greeting and smiled as I went to where Lyra was standing and hugged her. "Lyraaaa," I sang gleefully and she chuckled, hugging me back as well, "It's good to see you too, (N/n)," she said and we pulled away, hooking our arms around each other.
"I still can't believe you and Loen are going to get married tomorrow. We're about to become sisters for real!" I said excitedly, making Lyra chuckle. "Me too. Honestly, I still can't believe Loen really asked for my hand even now," she said with a small blush while I smirked and nudged her arm gently. "Mm hm, I am not so surprised though. I knew this day would eventually seeing how the two of you would constantly glance at each other every time the three of us hang out together. I was basically the third wheel between you guys," I said jokingly while she pouted playfully. "Oh come on, (N/n). You know that's not true. It's because of you that me and Loen fell in love and besides, we always love hanging out with you too," she said, making me giggle. "Sure, sure. I almost believed you," I jokingly said and we laughed, but before we could continue and joke around with each other, someone called my name and we turned to see Lyra's brother, Daniel, standing there with a warm smile on his face, "(Y/n)."
Ah, Daniel. It's good to see you again. It's been a while since we lasted chatted. How are things going for you?" I said and Daniel smiled, shrugging his shoulders lightly as he crossed his arms. "It's good to see you again too. And things are going fine. Just the same old stuffs you know. How about you? Are you still hanging on that title of yours?" he asked with an amused smirk which caused me to flinch while Lyra looked at me quizzically. "What title???" she asked in confusion and I sighed, having no choice but to answer her question, "Ah, you don't know, but Daniel and Loen told me that most men in the noble's society has given me a title named 'The Peculiar Belle.'" "The Peculiar Belle? Why??"
"Because she rejected every man who courted her. Are you really not interested in anyone, (Y/n)? Seriously, anyone would kill just to ask for your hand," Daniel asked and without me knowing, I immediately replied to his words, my voice becoming cold, "No." Both Lyra and Daniel flinched at the tone in my voice and I sighed, knowing that I am letting my emotions on loose again. "I am sorry, Daniel, but let's not talk about it anymore. After all it's all about Lyra and my brother until tomorrow," I said and turned back to Lyra who's been looking at me with a concerned expression while Daniel nodded and said no more. "Are you okay?" Lyra asked, still worried about me since she knew while I was acting like that. I forced up a smile to assure her that I was okay. "I am okay. Don't worry about it. Oh, by the way, look who's looking your way?" I said with a mischievous smile, pointing towards where my brother was standing and Lyra and him both blushed when she caught him staring at her, making me giggled. "He's so smitten with you," I said and Lyra blushed even more as we chuckled and started talking about something else while father led all of us to the drawing room to sit down and have some tea and talk until Pastor Galswells arrives.
Time skips,
The rehearsal marriage of Lyra and Loen's was going pretty well. I smiled, watching the two took the candles in their hands as Pastor Galswells started to read out what they're supposed to say. "Now, follow after me, Master (L/n). With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way in darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine...Light the candle while saying them," he said and Loen nodded as he smiled and started reading over his vows, "With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle," he stopped for a second to pick up the light from the candle to his own and turned to Lyra by his side who had also a candle in her hand.
He took her hand in his as he continued on while I tried not to squeal out of happiness watching them. My mind instantly imagine that it was me and Edward standing there, but I tried to push those thoughts away, wanting to be there with a smile for Lyra and Loen, "I will light your way in darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine," he said, looking at Lyra lovingly in the eyes while she smiled back. "Lady Evans, your turn," Pastor Galswells said, signaling Lyra to read her vows and Lyra nodded. Just as Lyra opened her mouth to read her vows, a loud sound of the doorbell interrupted, making everyone stopped.
"Harson, get the door please," I heard father said and Mr. Harson nodded, quickly heading out of the room to get the door while the rest of us in the room remained awkwardly silent. "Well, this is awkward," Daniel who was sitting next to me leaned in and whispered, making me shrug my shoulders in response. A minute or two after, Mr. Harson came back into the room along with two men around my age. "I am sorry we're late, sir. And we're terribly sorry for the interruption. P-Please carry on," the man with pale brown hair and soft green eyes apologized nervously with a smile while the other man with black hair and emerald eyes just nodded as a greeting. My father chuckled and waved his hand at the two, telling them that it was fine and he man with pale brown hair smiled nervously as the two mysterious strangers decided to sit beside me.
Pastor Galswells cleared his throat slightly and signaled Lyra to continue reading her vows and as she did so, my attention was slowly drifting to our new guests beside me. I didn't know why but something about them felt familiar as if I have seen them somewhere before. But where? My eyes met with the stranger with pale brown hair and I flinched slightly since I was caught staring at him for god who knows how long. He smiled at me and I smiled back with a nod, not wanting to be rude. The rest of the rehearsal marriage went by pretty well and we sat in silence, watching Lyra and Loen practice their wedding vows.
Pastor Galswells left after making sure that both Loen and Lyra have memorized everything they're to do tomorrow at the actual wedding ceremony tomorrow. I was about to walk away towards Lyra, but stopped when one of the strangers who sat beside me started talking to me. "It's been a while since we last met, my lady. I hope you've been doing well?" I blinked my eyes at his words in confusion. We've met before?? Before I could ask him anything about it, my father walked up to us with a big smile on his face. "Oh, (Y/n), Nicholas, I see the two of you have met each other. (Y/n), this is the young man I told you that he'll be joining us today. Nicholas, this is my daughter, (Y/n)," he introduced us quickly and I gave a curtsy to Nicholas as a greeting, "It's an honor to meet you, Sir Nicholas," I said and Nicholas blushed a bit, shaking his hand. "No, please, Nicholas is fine. I guess judging by how you're reacting, I suppose you don't really remember me," he said slowly, drawing my attention once again, "Pardon?"
(A/N: This is how Nicholas looks like in this story)
(A/N: And this is how Nicholas's brother, Raymond, looks like)
"Oh, you have met her before?" Father asked, raising a brow at Nicholas's words while the man chuckled nervously. "We have met once five years ago. Oh, and you have also met my brother over there before, Raymond," Nicholas said, gesturing towards the stranger with bright emerald eyes. Our eyes met and he started walking his way towards us with a calm expression while Nicholas continued to speak. "But I can't blame you for not remembering us. It wasn't the proper time back then," he said nervously, scratching the back of his head while I remained stunned at his words. Five years ago, huh?
Now I know why these two men felt awfully familiar. They were Edward's comrades back then...the ones who brought the news that Edward was dead that day. "Ah, forgive me. I didn't expect to meet you again after so long so, I didn't recall immediately. You two are the knights who came to us that day...I believe you used to be Edward's comrades back then," I said and Raymond's eyes flickered for a moment and his neutral expression wavered slightly, but his calm expression remained. Nicholas smiled and nodded at my words while my father's eyes widened in surprise. "That's right. I am glad that you recalled. It's good to see that you've doing well since then, my lady," he said with a genuine smile of a gentleman. Ah, this man must have a lot of girls falling head over heels for him with those looks. I have a feeling that father must have wanted to introduce me to him to find me a match, but it's a shame I can't feel any romantic feeling for anyone else from Edward. How I wish he was here with me.
"I..." I heard Raymond spoke, making me look at him. My eyes met with his emerald eyes and he looked away from me quickly, a frown making its way onto his face. "I am sorry for what happened back then," he said and I was stunned for a while at his words, but I smiled, knowing what he was trying to say, "Thank you," I replied with a genuine smile and there was a hint of guilt in his eyes for a moment, making me wonder why he could possibly be guilty, but I decided to ask him about it some other time. "And I'm glad to see that the two of you've been doing well as well, Nicholas and Raymond. I take it the two of you will be staying for my brother's wedding as well?" I asked and Nicholas smiled, giving me a nod. "Y-Yes, I- I mean, we will be around until the wedding is over," he said and I smiled, giving a nod back in return. "Then, I suppose we'll be seeing each other for a while then. I hope you enjoy your stay at our home and if you'll excuse me, I have to go and see the bride," I said, excusing myself as politely as I could before I turned around and started walking my way towards where Lyra and Loen were.
