Thank you so much for reading my story again 💕, I'll try my best to update rest of the chapters too as fast as I can and now, without further ado, I hope you enjoy the new chapters as well!
"Be gone, ye demons from hell!" Pastor Galswells bellowed, standing and blocking the entrance to the church as he watched several dead people and skeletons approached nearer.
"Back to the void from whence you came!" he continued to yell, swaying his long staff in an attempt to keep them away while the dead people all stopped and looked at him for a moment and then, at each other.
"You shall not enter here. Back, back!" he continued to shout, determined to protect the church.
"Keep it down, we're in a church," One of the male corpses shushed him, catching the priest by surprise as he stood there dumbfounded while all the dead and alive people started to walk pass him and entered the church.
"Evening!" one of the skeletons greeted him, raising his hat as they walked pass him and Pastor Galswells dropped both his staff and jaw in shock, unable to believe that just happened.
Once they have got everything all set for the ceremony to begin, everyone started to take a seat on the benches as Elder Gutknecht took his place at the altar to preside over the ceremony and officiate as the priest for Edward and (Y/n)'s wedding.
A moment or two after, Edward entered the church and stood at his place at the alter as well with a large, nervous yet contented smile on his face, unable to believe that he was really about to get married with the girl he loves.
🕸️💙🕸️💀🕸️💙🕸️
Meanwhile just out of view of everyone, (Y/n) also stood at the entrance of the church with Lady Eliza, feeling nervous, excited and happy at the same time as she breathed in and out, trying to calm herself down. The Duke, the Duchess and Gaelan has already entered the church and taken their seats for the wedding while Lady Eliza decided to remain at her side until the wedding begins.
"How are you feeling, darling?" Lady Eliza asked, watching with a knowing smile as the (h/c) haired girl tried to calm down her wedding nerves. "I-I am fine, Granny. It's just...I have dreamed of this moment for a very long time and I can't believe it's about to come true now...Edward is here and we are getting married today" (Y/n) answered her question breathlessly as she smiled, unable to believe that she was finally getting married with the love of her life after everything that happened.
Everything was almost perfect. And only one thing was missing. Her family.
At that thought, (Y/n)'s smile dropped slightly as she looked down for a moment, holding the bouquet in her hands tight. "What's wrong?" Lady Eliza asked, noticing that the (h/c) haired girl's mood has shifted slightly to sadness. (Y/n) looked back up to meet her eyes, smiling sadly as she did, "It's just...everything that's happening now is almost perfect...And I just kind of wish Father, Loen and Lyra were here with us."
"Who said I wasn't?" A familiar voice replied from behind and the girl whipped around, her eyes widening with surprise when she saw that standing a few feet away behind her was her father with Carlotta behind him.
"Father," she called, astonished to see him there. Then, she noticed Carlotta giving her a thumbs up from behind him and then, it hit her, why Carlotta suddenly left in a hurry earlier ago, saying she had to handle something. She was getting her father here.
Suddenly, the (h/c) haired girl started to become more nervous, remembering how their last conversation went which didn't go unnoticed by Lady Eliza who smiled and gently patted her back, giving her a silent, encouraging nod to talk with him before she disappeared into the church with Carlotta, giving (Y/n) and her father some space and stall some time for the two.
And as soon as they were gone, an awkward silence fell between (Y/n) and (F/n) as for a moment, both of them didn't say anything. Eventually, the silence between them became unbearable and the (h/c) haired girl pushed herself to be the first one to speak, telling herself in her mind that this might be her only chance to talk with him one last time before she joins the afterlife to live with the love of her life. But by the time she opened her mouth to speak, (F/n) has already beaten her to it.
"So, he really is um...half-alive, huh? Edward, I mean," (F/n) started, surprising the (h/c) haired girl as he motioned his finger into the church. "Oh. Yes, he is," (Y/n) nodded, still feeling a little shocked that her father was the first to break the silence between them though it fell right again not too long after. "Father, I- she slowly started, but didn't get a chance to finish her sentence as once again, (F/n) cut her off. "Carlotta was right. I haven't seen you smile like that for years until now since that day," he said, his words catching (Y/n) by surprise once again as she stared at him with confusion lacing in her wide eyes.
"I am sorry I didn't listen to you when you were um... trying to tell me about all of these things," (F/n) added, astonishing (Y/n) even more with his words as the girl continued to remain speechless, too stunned to speak. "I-It's okay," she struggled out, pushing herself to speak once again as she calmed herself. "I-I understand that it was a little hard for you to believe everything I was saying at that time as well," she added and (F/n) replied with a nod at her words as he glanced into the church for a moment through the small window from the door, looking at the scene where people of the living and the dead chattered excitedly with each other, then, at Edward who was the groom before finally turning back to his daughter who was the bride of this wedding ceremony where she will be joining the dead soon.
(F/n) forced a smile weakly, finding it ironic that his daughter who was about to get married and join the afterlife willingly at such a young age to be with the love of her life looks just as happy and beautiful as any normal bride does on her wedding day. He has seen it only for a short glimpse while he was coming here. (Y/n), she was smiling again like she used to when she is truly happy before she lost Edward.
"So, you're really getting married with him and...you're sure about this?" he asked, knowing all too well that the girl has already made up her mind, but wanting to hear her answer. After all, this was her life and after seeing how happy she was, he has accepted that whatever she chooses now, it was all up to her.
And at his question, a warm, gentle smile appeared on (Y/n)'s face as the girl looked at her father. "Yes, I am sure of my choice and I know what you're worried about, father. But..." she paused, her smile spreading and a warm feeling appearing in her chest as her heart skipped a beat when an image of Edward smiling at her came into her mind, "I've truly never felt anymore peaceful and happier than I do when I am with him."
(F/n)'s eyes widened at her words before he sighed with resignation and smiled, knowing that there was no point in trying to change her mind when she was looking this happy like she says. If this was going to be the last time he would be seeing her, (F/n) decided that he might as well as be there for her on this happiest day of her life with a smile on his face and marry her off properly before they part their ways. "Alright. Since you are sure of your choice, I will give you my blessing under one condition," he said, his smile widening slightly when he sees (Y/n) perked up at his words.
The (h/c) haired girl couldn't believe what she has just heard. Was her mind playing tricks on her or did her father really approve her marriage with Edward? She really hoped it was the latter one. "I'm walking you down the aisle," (F/n) simply said and (Y/n) blinked, genuinely surprised by her father's words before a bright smile spread over her face once again as she giggled, "Of course!"
Just then, the door opened slightly and two little skeleton kids who will be the flower girl and the flower boy for her wedding came out discreetly, each holding a basket full of flower petals. "Psst, (Y/n)? Mrs. Plum said it's time," the little skeleton girl said while her little skeleton brother nodded along at her words. "Oh, really? Thank you," (Y/n) replied and the two little skeleton kids nodded as they stood in front of her and got ready.
The wedding entrance theme song of 'Here Comes The Bride' starts to play from the inside as her signal and (Y/n) gasped softly as she stood in front of the door with her father, slowly feeling nervous and excited once again as she did. "Looks like it's time already. Are you ready?" (F/n) asked, offering his arm to her with a smile and (Y/n) smiled back excitedly as she took his arm, "Yes, I am ready." She breathed in and out, trying to calm her nerves down as she watched the doors opened.
All eyes fell onto her and her father once they've entered the church and Edward's eyes widened with genuine surprise, seeing (F/n) walking (Y/n) down the aisle, following the skeleton children who were tossing dead petals ahead. But his train of thoughts stopped almost immediately when his eyes met those (e/c) eyes of (Y/n)'s that he adores so much. Those (e/c) eyes that were shining with nothing but her love for him.
Edward's smile mirrored hers as he watched her approached the altar with steady steps. Walking down the aisle towards him in a wedding dress with that beautiful smile of hers on her face, it was the most beautiful sight Edward has ever seen in his life. Edward stands by what he has said before. (Y/n), she looks breathtakingly beautiful as if she was an angel who didn't belong in this world, even more so as her beauty became almost haunting with the moonlight sliding into the church through the windows from above. She was a dream. A wonderful dream that he wishes to never wake up from if he could. But...could he really?
His breathe hitched slightly at his own question that crossed his mind as (F/n) and (Y/n) finally reached to where he was standing, his mind starting to grow nervous when his gaze met with (F/n)'s. "Mr. (L/n), I-" he started, but stopped as (F/n) shook his head and gave him a warm smile which surprised him greatly, "You don't need to explain anything, son. It's good to see you again too."
For a moment, Edward was stunned with silence, unable to believe that (F/n) was really accepting him and their marriage. A warm feeling filled in his chest as he smiled back at the man who was about to officially become his father in law. "It's good to see you too, Mr. (L/n)," he replied and then, his eyes met with (Y/n)'s who was smiling at him warmly.
At that moment, both Edward and (Y/n) felt it as they both gazed and smiled at each other lovingly, the sparks between them obvious to anyone watching them. And anyone watching them can see it, how much they both love each other.
Even (F/n) as well.
"Take care of my daughter, alright?" he said with a smile, drawing Edward's attention back to him as he slowly started to let (Y/n) go.
"I will," Edward promised and (F/n) nodded, turning his attention back to (Y/n) as he took into her features one last time to remember her smile. The (h/c) haired girl smiled at her father warmly and shared a quick hug with him, silently letting him know how much she loves him before she let him go and watched him went to sit with Edward's family.
Then, (Y/n) turned her attention back to Edward who has held out his hand for her which she happily took it with the brightest smile on her face, the two sharing loving gazes with each other as they stood side by side and faced Elder Gutknecht together.
"Dear beloved and departed, we are gathered here today to join this woman and corpse in marriage," Elder Gutknect started formally as he looked at the two. "Living first," he instructed, looking at (Y/n) and the girl nodded as she and Edward turned to face each other.
With her smile never leaving her face, the girl took a deep breathe and raised her right hand as she gazed into Edward's eyes and started reciting her vows, "With this hand, I'll lift your sorrows."
Gracefully, she lifted the goblet into her hand, never tearing her gaze away from Edward as she did, "Your cup will never empty...for I will be your wine."
At the same time, Loen and Lyra entered the church and gasped seeing what was going on in the church. "(Y/n)?" Lyra gasped quietly in disbelief, seeing the (h/c) haired girl standing at the alter together with Edward, looking so happy. One of the skeletons turned around and shushed Lyra, but both she and Loen didn't notice as they quietly walked closer into the church for a better view.
"Now you," Elder Gutknecht instructed again when (Y/n) was done, gesturing to Edward who was lost in his thought and has been looking at (Y/n) affectionately the whole time like she was the only star shining in an inky back night sky.
"With this hand, I will lift your sorrows," he started reciting his vows, never tearing his gaze away from her even for a second as he picked up the bottle of the Wine of Ages into his hand. "Your cup will never empty..." he started pouring some of the wine into her cup. "For I will be..." Edward paused, his eyes widening when he spotted Loen and Lyra standing behind (Y/n) and watching them with worried expressions, hidden from everyone else's view and watching with quiet expressions of horror on their faces.
"I will be..." he began to stutter, a rush of guilt starting to resurface in his chest as it started to become mixed with the happiness he was feeling.
'Was he really going to do this?' he heard his own voice questioned him in his mind and froze.
He has dreamed of this moment. He has dreamed of standing here together with her and happily spending the rest of his life together with her forever as husband and wife for years. And all these years while they were apart, he was starting to believe that he has lost all his chances of reuniting with her and making that dream come true. But here she was, standing here in front of him and reciting her wedding vows so flawlessly, willing to give up her life and everything she has here in the world of the livings to become his wife and join him in the afterlife.
And that was the problem.
Being with him means, (Y/n) will be leaving everything and everyone she loves here just to be with him. And he heard his own voice questioned in his mind once again.
Was he really going to take all of it away from her?
"Go on, my dear boy," he heard Elder Gutknecht urged him kindly and his hand trembled slightly as he set the bottle back down on the altar. "Your cup will never empty...for I...I will be..." Shaken and starting to become consumed by guilt, Edward finds himself hesitating and no longer able to finish his vows as he looked at (Y/n) who smiled at him fondly, assuming that he was just being nervous.
"I will be your wine," she finished his vows for him passionately with a sweet smile on her face and raised the cup of poison to her lips to drink, but just as she was about to take a sip, Edward quickly placed his hand over the cup and stopped her, surprising everyone in the room and making (Y/n) look back into his eyes with confusion and concern.
"He's having second thoughts," Alfred whispered to Gertrude.
"I'm sorry, princess. But I can't," Edward whispered, trying to ignore the heart aching pain in his chest as he placed the cup back onto the table.
"Edward, what's wrong?" (Y/n) asked worriedly, reaching out to gently touch his cheek and Edward smiled back at her sadly, placing his hand over hers, his ocean blue eyes starting to become glassy as he did.
"This is wrong. I was a groom...My dreams were taken from me. My life was taken from me...And I lost everything I had in it including my family. And now...Now, I'm taking them away from you," Edward stated, a tear escaping from his eye as he glanced away from (Y/n) for a second and took a deep breathe before looking back into her eyes.
"I love you, (Y/n). But you're not meant to be mine in this life," he finished, smiling at (Y/n) sorrowfully as he gently kissed the inside of her hand and let her go slowly, (Y/n) felt her heart sinking at his words as he did.
The look in his eyes simply says everything that he has accepted the painful truth that he and (Y/n), they were no longer meant to be in this life.
(Y/n)'s eyes widened with dread when she realized what he was doing. He was letting her go.
"Edwa-" she started, but Edward turned his attention to (F/n) and bowed his head, surprising the man, "I'm sorry for trying to take her away."
"Wait, Edward. Please, no. Not like this. We made a promise to each other," (Y/n) said pleadingly with a lump in her throat, turning his attention back to her and she felt her heart ached when she sees the way he was looking at her.
"Remember when you said you will grant my wish?" Edward asked suddenly, smiling at her wistfully through the tears on his face.
"What?"
"Will you listen to my wish now?" Edward questioned again softly, taking a step towards her and the (h/c) haired girl gasped with surprise when he suddenly pulled her into his arms and embraced her, holding her close to him as tight as possible.
"This is my wish, princess. Forget about me," (Y/n) heard him said before she could ask anything and froze, feeling her heart dropped at his words. Tears start to well up in her eyes and blur her vision. She parted her lips to speak, but no words came out of her mouth, her voice dying in her throat.
"Forget about me and live the rest of you life happily the way you want for me with that beautiful smile of yours," Edward pulled back slightly to look back into her eyes, gently cupping her face and wiping away the tears streaming down her cheeks with his thumbs. "That's my wish," he added, tenderly pressing a kiss on her forehead and only more tears escaped from (Y/n)'s eyes at his words, coursing down her cheeks in a steady stream, "Edward."
"I'm sorry that I wasn't able to keep all of our promises in this life, princess," Edward continued to speak, still gently cupping her tears away and (Y/n) shook her her head, letting him know that she could never blame him for one bit. "But even if death has already parted us, I swear upon my love for you that I will do whatever it takes to keep this one promise to you and I want you to remember it as well," he paused, making (Y/n) look into his eyes.
"I will find you. I will find you again in our next life and every lifetime after it. It doesn't matter how long it will take because every time I am reborn, I will always choose you again and again and continue loving you even more than I already do right now until eternity lasts," Edward added, never looking away from her eyes to show (Y/n) that he was giving her an oath and he knew she knew it.
(Y/n) couldn't find her voice to speak due to the lump growing in her throat, the feeling almost felt as if it was telling her that she knew exactly how things were going to end between the two of them. The thought of him disappearing out of her life again was making her heart clench painfully in her chest.
"You won't hate me when I am gone, will you? I know you don't want me to do this, princess, but...I have to. I love you too much to make you sacrifice yourself because of me. I just hope that you will be able to forgive me someday," Edward said, gently resting his forehead against hers and at his words, (Y/n) shook her head, silently letting him know that she could never blame him for one bit.
"I could never hate you, Edward," she said, her voice almost barely coming out of her throat as she looked into those ocean blue eyes of Edward's that she adored so much.
Fate has been unfair.
Such thing called 'fate' has already torn them apart once. And yet now, it was so cruelly forbidding them to be together again as well.
These last two days she spent together with him in the Land of the Dead had been such a lovely gift of fate, a second chance for the two of them to be together again.
But now...
Now, fate was starting to twist, about to take back what it had given the two of them with its own hand.
It was so painfully unfair...especially to him.
(Y/n) noticed her vision her blurring even more as she reached out to touch her beloved's cheek, Edward welcoming her by leaning more into her touch. She quickly blinked her tears away, wanting to remember every feature of him.
Fate has been so much more cruel to him than it was to her.
It was moments like this that (Y/n) wishes Edward was a bit more selfish for his own sake. He has always helped and protected the others, never asking anything in return. Even now, he was choosing to let her go even when it was hurting him as well. But she could see it as clear as day in his eyes of the reason why he was doing this.
He was doing this because he loves her.
He loves her so much enough to let her go for her sake.
(Y/n)'s hand trembled as she continued to gently cup his cheek.
There was so much warmth, life and love left in Edward's eyes that she strongly believes it was unfair for him to have an ending like this. He deserves so much better than that.
Suddenly, a male voice rang out through the room, making everyone jumped as they all turned in the direction where the owner of the voice was standing, "Edward!"
(Y/n)'s eyes widened with surprise and confusion when she saw that standing there not too far away from them was Raymond with a look of pure guilt on his face, "Sir Raymond?"
But Raymond wasn't looking at her. He was looking at Edward who was looking at him with the same confusion she felt directly. "I have always wanted to say this ever since that day. It has been on my mind," Raymond said, taking a few steps forward and stopping near the couple.
"Wha-"
"I am sorry! All of this wouldn't have happened to you if it wasn't because of me!" Raymond suddenly apologized, bowing his head to Edward who grew even more confused, surprising by his actions, "What? What are you talking about?"
Raymond's figure started to shake as he continued to speak. "I-If you never took that blow for me back then...if I had been much more stronger back then, you'd have never died," he said and Edward's eyes widened at his words. He flinched when a flashback suddenly appeared in his mind and his eyes widened with surprise when he realized that he was slowly starting to recall who Raymond was.
"Y-you could have returned to your family. You could have been with Lady (Y/n) like you have always wanted. You could have had everything...If it weren't for me..." Raymond's voice was full of grief and self-loathing by now as he struggled on with his words and unable to look into Edward's eyes, "I am so sorry, Edward. This is all my fault. If it weren't for me-"
"What are you talking about? Of course, it wasn't your fault that I died," Edward cut Raymond off, not allowing him to finish his sentence. (Y/n) continued to look between her beloved and Raymond back and forth, not really understanding what was going on yet.
"But-"
"I may not have remembered when I saw you the other night, but now I am starting to. We were friends, weren't we? Then, even if I had the chance to change everything, I would still have done exactly the same thing I did that day."
At those words, Raymond finally looked up to meet Edward's gaze, "But why?! If it weren't for me, you could have-!"
"We were friends, Ray," Edward cut him off sternly, surprising Raymond. "Friends look out for each other, remember? What happened to me was not your fault and I have never once hated or blamed you for it either. You, of all people should know very well that I wouldn't have died from a simple stab like that when we have fought things far worse than the bandits we met that night and still survived with injuries worse than that," Edward added firmly and (Y/n)'s eyes softened, remembering the trace of scars she saw on his back by accident while he was getting dressed during her stay in the Land of the Dead the last two days.
"Precisely," another voice sounding much more venomous said and once again, everyone turned to see a figure walking out of the shadows and towards them, "Which is why a simple dagger or a sword wouldn't have done the trick."
"Nicholas?"
"Brother?"
And Edward's eyes widened with horror and realization once he saw the face of the figure approaching them and everything he has forgotten until now started to come back to him all in a a flashback, including everything that happened the day he died.
"You...It was you!"
