Right after Nicholas has just been dragged away and Mrs. Plum has just shut the door after her, silence hung heavily in the air for a moment with unspoken tension.
Still in Edward's arms, (Y/n) shakily let go of her breathe which she didn't notice she was holding as she felt her body beginning to become relaxed again when rage left her body and exhaustion started to take its place.
Until now, she has never believe that she was capable of feeling such an amount of rage, nor did she think that the residents from the Land of the Dead can be just as malevolent as they can be kind. Though deep down, she knew that she too also wanted to harm Nicholas for everything he has done to them while she was dueling him.
As Elder Gutknecht walked back towards the altar and resealed the bottle of the 'Wine of Ages', Edward and (Y/n) finally turned back to look at each other again with love and concern for each other shining in both their eyes. "Are you alright, love?" (Y/n) asked, tenderly placing a hand on Edward's cheek which he reciprocated by leaning more into her touch. "Don't worry, love. I am fine," he assured her with a smile.
"And you? Are you hurt anywhere, my love?" he asked, pulling back slightly as his eyes scanned around her body to make sure there was no injuries on her.
"I'm fine," (Y/n) chuckled softly, letting Edward examine her until he was ensured that she wasn't hurt anywhere at all.
"Good. Good. That's good," Edward mumbled when he was sure and smiled with relief as he tenderly held her face in his hands and kissed her forehead which makes the (h/c) haired girl's smile widened as they look into each other's eyes which were filled with nothing but the love they have for each other.
Silence fell between them once again as the two of them spent a moment just staring at each other, taking into each other's features carefully to remember every detail. Aware of what was about to happen now, (Y/n) swallowed thickly and her eyes started to glisten with tears once again as she continued to caress Edward's face gently, her hand trembling as she did. It was almost as if Edward knew what was going through in her mind because with a soft smile playing upon his decaying lips, he reached out to delicately brush his bony finger against her cheek, tenderly wiping away a stray tear that escaped from her eye.
And he did.
The smile on his lips was filled with tenderness and bittersweet understanding as Edward knew almost exactly what was going on in his (Y/n)'s mind. His heart has never felt any more heavier and painful in his life than it did in this moment as he stood by the decision he has made to release her from him...though every fiber of his being longed to hold onto her, to stay with her forever, but he knew it was not meant to be...at least not in this life.
He couldn't bear to see her giving her life away just for him when she could still enjoy her life, doing all the things she loves instead of joining him in the Land of the Dead. Just the very thought of it pained him more than any physical torment ever could have.
He loves her. He loves her so much enough to let her go even if it kills him inside.
Seeing the mixture of affection, regret and pain swirling in his eyes, (Y/n)'s eyes became welled with more tears in them and her voice quivered with emotions as she finally asked the question that has been haunting her though she already knew his answer well. "Do you really have to go?" she asked, her eyes glistening with tears as they mirrored the pain Edward was feeling as well.
"I have to," he replied, pressing another kiss against her forehead as he continued to brush away the tears streaming down her cheeks.
"But we promised," (Y/n) softly protested and Edward only smiled back at her wistfully, gently leaning his forehead against hers as he spoke, "And you kept your promise, my love. You set me free. Now I can do the same for you."
"You could stay with me," (Y/n) suggested again hopefully, her eyes silently pleading with him to change his mind though she knew he wouldn't.
"I could and you know I want that more than anything in this world, princess...But I want you to live."
(Y/n) closed her eyes for a moment to blink her tears away as she exhaled weakly, finding it hard to breathe as her tears kept descending from her eyes. She opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out of her mouth as she failed to find her voice. Edward gently tilted her head to make her look back into his eyes. "I want you to go out there and enjoy you life to the fullest, doing everything you want. Not just for you, but for us too," he said and then, paused for a moment as he inhaled softly, his own eyes starting to glisten with tears as well as he tried to hold them back.
"I know the time we had together was short, and there are a lot of things of left to say, but I just want you to know that...I love you. I love you so much and these two days we spent together...they were the best parts of my life. Being here with you as your husband and you as my lovely wife. I couldn't have asked for anything more. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me in this world, (Y/n)," Edward said with a smile, a stray tear escaping from his eye as he continued to gently cradle (Y/n)'s cheeks with adoration and a mixture of sadness in his eyes.
(Y/n) smiled back at him warmly through her tear. "You're the best thing that's ever happened to me too, Edward," she said, gently wiping away the tear rolling down his cheek, "There is no one else like you."
"Edward," they heard Raymond called as he approached them, making the couple look at him. "I...I am truly sorry for all of this. I can't apologize you and Lady (Y/n) enough for everything my brother has done to you both. I am just...I am so sorry," he apologized, bowing his head down in shame.
"You have nothing to apologize for, Raymond. It wasn't your fault. You didn't know," Edward assured him back, letting him know that he has nothing against him for even one bit. Then, an idea slowly came into his mind and Edward considered it for a moment before he opened his mouth to speak again. "Although...if you could do one thing for me, I'd really appreciate it," he said and Raymond's eyes almost instantly lit up with hope as he looked back up to meet Edward's eyes and eagerly nodded, "Of course. Anything."
At his words, a warm smile appeared on Edward's face. "In that case..." He trailed and turned back to look at (Y/n) who was looking at them with a soft smile on her beautiful face. Wondering what he was thinking about as he looked at her, she looked back at him with a silent question in her eyes, making the smile on Edward's face grow even more with adoration. "I'd really be grateful if you could protect (Y/n) in my stead when I am gone," he said and the (h/c) haired girl's eyes widened as she opened her mouth to protest, but stopped when Edward chuckled and continued to speak, seeing her reaction.
"I know she can protect herself more than anyone else, but...I'd really be reassured if there was someone who has her back and protects her when she needs it...Someone to make sure that she doesn't come after me anytime soon for a very long time," he said, his eyes filled with a gentle warmth and his endless affection for her as his gaze lingered on her, the smile on his face never fading as he did.
(Y/n)'s eyes became glistened with tears once again at his words, a quiet chuckle escaping from her lips as she couldn't believe he was still thinking for her sake even now.
And Raymond, understanding the weight and importance of the duty he was being given, his eyes widened with surprise, because Edward was trusting him once more even after his brother has caused his death. And knowing how much Edward cares for (Y/n) more than words can express, Raymond instantly knew just the way to repay Edward for this second chance he has given to him.
"I understand what you mean. And if that's what you wish, I swear on my honor that I will protect Lady (Y/n) with everything I have whenever she needs it," he promised, putting a hand over his chest as he bowed his head and Edward nodded, acknowledging his friend's pledge before he turned to look at everyone else in the church, a wistful smile appearing on his face once again as he did.
"I just want you all to know...it's been really really wonderful seeing you again all," he said, looking at them all carefully with a peaceful smile on his face which makes everyone smiled back slightly through teary eyes.
"And (Y/n)," Edward continued, pausing for a moment as he turned back to face the (h/c) haired girl who he has only grown to love her more and more even after death. He took into her features slowly and carefully, wanting to remember every little detail about her as much as possible.
"I know I always have a bad timing when it comes to these things," he said half jokingly with an intention to see her beautiful smile, his own smile growing wider when he sees that his words managed to elicit a beautiful sounding, tender chuckle from (Y/n), her laughter filled with a mixture of affection and understanding.
"You always do," she replied warmly with a fond smile tracing the corner of her lips as she looked at him. Her (e/c) eyes shimmered with tears and the unspoken depths of her love too intricate to convey with just mere words.
"I know. But this is probably the last time I do...And there's just only one last thing I want to ask you," Edward said, his eyes tracing the delicate lines of her face, every little detail of her etched into the canvas of his memory. And Edward felt his heart swelled with an ache in his chest when a new realization hit him like a gentle wave as he tenderly took her hands into his.
He loves her beyond the constraints of life and death enough to make him yearn to capture this moment, to imprint the beauty of Y/n smiling at him in the moonlight onto the canvas of his soul, carrying it with him into the next life.
To love her and be with her again once more every time his soul is reborn in this world.
"Anything," (Y/n) replied to his words with a smile and without any hesitation, making Edward chuckle with his adoration for her shining evidently in his eyes.
"You shouldn't say that to anyone, you know...But what I want to say is...I know it's a long shot, but...when I find you again in our next lives, will you let me love you again? Be the love of my life once more in every lifetime?" Edward asked, summoning the courage to voice and unveil the depths of his heart to her one last time.
(Y/n) gasped softly at his words, eyes widened, her lips quivered in a delicate response, as she tearfully smiled back at him warmly in return, her smile somehow reflecting mirroring the bittersweet beauty of the moment.
"Edward," she whispered, her voice a melody in the quietude of the moment, carried the weight of a promise that will transcend the constraints of time and mortality as she tenderly held his hands back tight in hers, "I'll be waiting for you in every lifetime so, keep your promise, okay?"
As Y/n spoke those words, the moonlight cast a soft glow on their figures in the church, it felt as if heaven itself held its breath at that moment, acknowledging the sacred pact being woven between their souls.
Edward continued to caress her cheek gently as he smiled at his beloved's words. The moonlight painted a bittersweet tableau, illuminating the gentle lines of her smile and the cascade of tears that shimmered on her cheeks. He marveled at the way her eyes sparkled, not just with the reflection of the night sky but with the reservoir of shared memories and unspoken words. "I will. And I won't stop until I find you again in our next lives and love you once more just as deeply as I do in this life and more," he vowed, his words resonating with the promise of eternal devotion to her as he gently wrapped an arm around (Y/n)'s waist and slightly pulled her closer, wanting to feel as close as to her as possible as he rest his forehead against hers.
Edward knew it was a one in a million chance, however, as he looked into (Y/n)'s beautiful (e/c) eyes which were filled with nothing but love for him, he unwaveringly clung onto the belief that their souls will find each other again some day, at somewhere throughout the endless, ever-turning wheels of life and death.
"I know the time we had together in this life was far too short, but thank you for becoming my wife even if it was only for a few days, princess."
With a look full of nothing but adoration and the love he has for her, (Y/n) watched her beloved press a tender kiss to the inside of her hand and never broke his eye contact with her as he thanked her. No words came out from her mouth at that instant, she just tearfully smiled at him, her eyes silent speaking every emotion she was feeling in her heart to Edward.
Then, a playful twinkle which could brighten even the dullest moments appeared in Edward's eyes along with his affection as he smiled. "What do you say we walk out of here together, princess? Walk out of this place with me as my lovely wife with me?" he asked, holding her hand gently in his as he kissed the back of it, making (Y/n)'s heart fluttered.
"Of course," she agreed tearfully with a bright smile on her face which Edward adores so much while tenderly squeezing his hand back which also made Edward mirrored her smile as he offered her his arm.
Just as (Y/n) was about to take his arm, she heard a familiar bark and looked down to see Wolfie looking up at her with her wedding bouquet which she has dropped earlier ago in his mouth while wagging his little bony tail up at her.
The (h/c) girl chuckled fondly, bending down to take the bouquet Wolfie has retrieved for her into her hands as she thanked and patted his head tenderly to show her gratitude, "Of course. Can't do that without my bouquet now, can we? Thank you, Wolfie."
Wolfie let out another gentle bark in return and (Y/n) watched him walk away to Carlotta's side with a fond smile before she stood back up and turned her attention back to her beloved who was smiling and watching her the whole time.
"Shall we, princess?" He offered his arm once again and this time, (Y/n) smiled as she gracefully linked her arm with Edward's, "We shall."
The two of them smiled at each other with nothing but the love they have for each other in their eyes. Everyone in the church silently moved out of the way for them as together, they started walking down the aisle of the church, their steps light and synchronized as they took their time and walked together as if they were embarking towards a future where they are going to spend the rest of their lives together with each other to the end.
The silver light spilled into the church, creating a luminous path for them as they continued to walk down the aisle together, the atmosphere filled with a mixture of joy and sorrow.
(Y/n) wished it did not have to be in their next lives as she and Edward never took their eyes off each other. There was no chance she could forget him even if she tried, even if she wanted to. She would never be able to forget the feeling of happiness in her chest and the warmth that would envelope her at the sight of him. Or the way that gorgeous smile of his would make her heart race excitedly and make her feel so full of love and joy. She wanted to be with him in this life too, just as much as she wants to be with him in their next lives.
But they cannot.
Not in this life.
Only in their next.
Soon, they reached to the threshold of the ancient church, the soft luminescence of the moonlight enveloping them under the enchanting night sky. (Y/n)'s eyes landed on her wedding bouquet which was a representation of her love and commitment to Edward for a moment and an idea came into her mind as she hesitated for a moment. Edward gently nudged her arm and drew her attention back to him as he gave her a knowing smile and tilted his head back towards inside, silently encouraging her to do what she wants to.
At his gesture, (Y/n) smiled at him warmly in gratitude before she turned her head back towards inside where their families were. With a tearful smile, she caught Lyre's eyes as she playfully tossed her bouquet into the night air towards her best friend who is also now her sister, "This is for you, my new dear sister!"
With a mix of surprise and joy, Lyra fumblingly caught the beautiful, ethereal bouquet in her hands as she chuckled breathlessly in awe. (Y/n) gave her and her brother with a warm smile. "May your love be as everlasting as ours," she blessed them genuinely before she turned her attention back to her beloved who was watching her with a smile and a profound gaze. "A fine toss, my love," he remarked with a twinkle in his eyes, making her smile widen at his words.
The awareness of their imminent parting continued to linger in the air and a solemn silence settled between the two of them once again as Edward and (Y/n) just stared at each other, an unspoken understanding between them that it was time to part their ways...at least for now in this life.
Their eyes continued to remain locked in a silent promise as Edward leaned in, his tenderness speaking louder than words ever could as he gently cupped a few strands of her hair away behind her ear.
"I will love you forever to infinity," Edward declared softly, just before his lips captured hers into one last sweet, lingering kiss. A single tear traced a delicate path down (Y/n)'s cheek as she closed her eyes, meeting his kiss back passionately with the desire to savor the fleeting magic of this moment.
It was a tender farewell, an oath of love that would transcend mortal confines and extend into the infinite unknown, and...finally, the kiss also was a final testament to the depth of his love before his soul would be set free.
The moon hung low in the sky, acting as a silent witness to the vows exchanged between the two lovers. Soon, in the gentle embrace of their kiss, (Y/n) felt an ethereal sensation of her beloved beginning to slip away slowly through her fingers as their kiss started to come to a bittersweet end that left (Y/n) with a lingering touch of Edward's love for her.
Their eyes met for one last time in that fleeting moment and more tears threatened to spill out of (Y/n)'s eyes when she sees how her beloved's form was beginning to shimmer. But she made herself smile instead as she looked at Edward. "I love you too, forever and always," she vowed with a smile, holding her tears back, her heart filled with a bittersweet sense of closure and an everlasting love. The love she has for him speaking volumes in her eyes as she watched a bright smile as radiant as the moon above them appeared on his handsome face one last time at her words and watched his form began to transform.
With the soft fluttering of wings, his essence began to transform into a cascade of vibrant, blue butterflies and (Y/n) watched in awe and sorrow with tearful eyes as she watched the swarm of radiant butterflies spiraled upwards, fluttering away into the vast night sky. One little blue butterfly, however, stayed behind and flew around her in circle for a moment. (Y/n) smiled tearfully, letting it rest on her finger. "Until we meet again, my love," she whispered with a smile, holding onto the belief that they will meet again in their next lives and the little blue butterfly fluttered its wings on her finger without flying away as if it was Edward saying the very same words right back to her before it left her finger and started to fly away as well.
(Y/n) watched the beautiful blue butterfly ascend into the night sky with a mix of tears and a tender smile gracing her face as she embraced the beauty of the moment, her heart both heavy and hopeful.
She felt a gentle hand on her shoulder and turned around to see Lady Eliza smiling at her with the same tearful eyes as she wrapped her arms around her shoulder and silently comforted her with a knowing smile. (Y/n) mirrored her smile back and together, they watched until the butterflies slowly disappeared out of their sight and into the endless moonlit horizon of the night sky.
Edward's soul, now free and a part of the ethereal dance of the blue butterflies soaring through the night sky, leaving behind a love that defied death and carrying a love that would endure beyond the boundaries of time and space until they meet again in their next lives.
And until then...their love will be written in the stars with the remaining residents of the Land of the Dead, their families and the heavens as the witnesses to their everlasting love that defied death and will soon reunite again someday at somewhere in this world.
