Your Pov,
I opened my eyes and I looked around to find myself in a familiar looking flower field.
How did I...get here?
The moonlight shines down on the flower field and before I realized what I was doing, my feet were already taking me towards the giant oak tree that lies ahead in the middle of this flower field I was in. It's been a long time since I was here. I touched the tip of the "Forget-Me-Not" flower petals gently and just then, a little blue butterfly started flying around me, drawing my attention towards it. Instead of flying off towards the flowers in this field, the little curious butterfly continued to flutter its wings around me playfully. I chuckled and held out a finger, letting it rest on it. "Hello there, where did you come from?" I hummed, admiring its beautiful blue wings. After a second or two later, the little butterfly flew away from my finger and fluttered its wings towards where the oak tree was before flying back to me once again and then, it flew back towards the oak's treeย direction and stopped there as if...it was telling me to follow.
"Where are you going?" I asked with a soft chuckle and started walking after the little butterfly while it continued to lead me towards the oak tree. We soon started to reach under the oak tree and I froze at where I was standing when I saw a figure standing there with his back facing me. The little blue butterfly flew towards where he was standing and the man smiled, holding his finger out for it to rest which the little butterfly did like it did on my finger. But that wasn't what caught my attention. It was the way the man smiled and called my name when he noticed me standing behind him, "(Y/n)."
I couldn't see his eyes because his bangs were covering them. I didn't recognize his figure. But I recognized that voice anywhere. I felt a lump in my throat and tears pricked at the corner of my eyes, my heart painfully clenching when I called out his name, "E-Edward."
He smiled at me warmly and turned to me, holding out his hand towards me. "Come here, princess," he said with that familiar playful grin of his which I missed so much. I smiled through my tears and ran into his arms, calling out his name and embracing him as tight as I could in fear that he would disappear from right in front of my eyes again,ย "I missed you. I miss you so much every single day. Why do you have to be gone?" I cried in his chest and his strong arms wrapped around me securely. I felt him nuzzling into my hair and then, his voice reached into my ears, "I missed you too, princess."
I cried even more at his words and then, his next words stunned me. "And I am not gone. I am still here," he said and before I could ask what he meant, the beautiful scenes of the flower field around us started to shatter suddenly like a glass being smashed into pieces, "Wha-"ย
Edward started to fade away into small light particles from within my arms. "N-No. Don't go, please. Edward," I pleaded, but Edward only smiled, holding my hand in his tightly. "I love you," he said and with that, he completely faded away and everything around me shattered as I fell down into the pitch-darkness, calling his name.
"Edward!!" I called out and felt my body shot out of the bed. I frowned when I found myself sitting in my bed with tears streaming down my eyes once again. Hahh...another dream again. I took in a sharp breath and I heard a little whimper of frustration escaping from my mouth as I brought my knees to my chest and hid my face in it.
It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter even if it was just a dream. It felt real. So real that I could still feel his presence around me like he was really there. My cheeks were cold and wet as I wrapped my arms around myself and sighed, looking out at my window where I could see the sun starting to rise slowly. I always have dreams about Edward, but I was never able to communicate with him in my dreams before. So, why was I able to this time and...what did he mean when he said he's still there? My eyes widened slightly at my own question and his words echoed in my head, "And I am not gone. I am still here."
"What do you mean by that, Edward? What are you trying to say to me?" I mumbled quietly and like always, silence was the only thing I got as an answer as always. Could it be?ย
I stepped out of the bed and walked towards the window. I opened it and the breeze came into my room just as I started to stare away into the distance deep in my thoughts.
Could it be that you're really still out there somewhere, Edward?
I leaned against the windowpane and took a deep breathe, still looking into the distance. If there's even only one percent chance that I might see you again, I still would bet on it. I just...want you back with me.
I felt someone watching me and I looked down to see Nicholas staring at me from the garden which caused him to flinch from getting caught staring. He waved at me slowly with an awkward smile which made me rose my brow, but I smiled and waved back at him as a greeting before walking back into my room.
Today's going to be Loen and Lyra's wedding ceremony at the church. I can't afford to get distracted today. I quickly took a bath and got myself ready. I changed into the gown I am supposed to wear for today and quickly started heading towards Lyra's room before we leave for the wedding ceremony at the church. I can't afford to get distracted today. I quickly took a bath and got myself ready. I changed into the gown I am supposed to wear for today and quickly started heading towards Lyra's room.
I could see the servants moving busily at downstairs and I picked up my pace, rushing towards Lyra's room as fast as I can. I passed by my father's work room, and I stopped in my tracks when I heard my name being mentioned, "Have you told (Y/n) about this?"
Father and...Loen?
I slowly took a few steps back quietly and listened by the door, making sure I was well-hidden as I did so.
Father:ย No, I haven't yet. But I will after your wedding.
Loen:ย *sigh* Father, you know how (Y/n) feels about marriage.
Father:ย Yes, I do, Loen. But it's time she gets married with someone else and be happy as well. I know she still loves that young man, but she needs to move on and have a life of her own as well.
Loen:ย So, you're agreeing Nicholas's request of asking (Y/n)'s hand no matter what?
Father:ย It's for her own good.
Loen:ย *sigh* Father, I know you want what's the best for her, but shouldn't (Y/n) at least have a say in this as well? Like you said, it's her life after all. And besides, we don't even know about that Nicholas guy that well.
Father:ย *sigh*Nicholas is a fine young man, Loen. I assure you that. Good family background. Fine personality and he is an excellent knight as well. Besides, he's agreed to help with our family's business as well if he and (Y/n) marries.
I froze at that last sentence my father said as I continued to listen to their conversation in silence. So, Nicholas was indeed here to ask for my hand. I would have said no on the spot if he told that to me without any hesitation, however...I am also aware of how our family business was slowly starting to fail and needed an investment.
Father:ย Her marriage to Nicholas can save our family's business if it goes well. Not only that he has offered quite an exorbitant dowry for her hand as well.
Loen:ย No matter how much dowry he offers, it's (Y/n)'s call to decide whether she will marry him or not. I will come up with something for our family's business, so please don't try to persuade her with that. Andย with all due respect, I suggest you not to decide everything yourself and ask her opinion first, father.
I heard Loen said and I was more than grateful to have him as my brother in my life. He may not show it, but he cares about me as much as I care about him in the same way. It was silent for a while before I heard my father started speaking once again.
Father:ย *sigh* Very well, I will. Now go, it's time we leave for the church for your wedding. We can continue this conversation later.
I heard him said and I quickly slipped away down the hallways and hid behind the wall as I stayed like that until I heard the sound of my father's and brother's footsteps faded away.
I sighed and leaned against the wall.
My marriage to Nicholas can save our family's business, huh? Loen was already carrying enough burdens on his shoulders being the eldest son of our family...I can't burden him with my own life problems as well. I looked down at my ring and my hands trembled at the thought of taking it off for a marriage with another man. The sound of the servants bickering from at the end of the hallways snapped me out of my thoughts and reminded me that today's still Lyra and Loen's wedding and that I still have a task to help Lyra prepare for her wedding.
I took a deep breath and quickly continued walking towards Lyra's room while trying to shake off the thoughts I am having as best as I can. Focus on the wedding first, (Y/n).ย
I knocked onto Lyra's door, and I smiled as soon as I heard her telling me to come in. "Lyraaaa~" I sang gleefully and stepped into the room and standing in front of the mirror was Lyra whose corset was being tightened by a maid. "(Y/n), you're here. Good morning," she greeted me warmly as she let out a sharp gasp when her corset was tightened even more. "Good morning, sis. How are you feeling?"
"Pretty n-!! Nervous," Lyra replied through her sharp gasps as the maid finally finished tightening the corset. I smiled and politely sent her away, telling her that I can take it from here. "Don't be. You have nothing to be worried about, Lyra. Everything's going to be just fine. I just know it," I assured, helping Lyra wear her wedding dress and she smiled, taking into my words.
"I know...it's just...W-What if I trip walking down the aisle? What if I forgot my vows in the middle of the wedding? And what if-" Lyra continued to stammer on nervously and I chuckled, holding onto her arms gently as I made her look into my eyes and cut her off. "Or what if it turns out to be better than you imagined? You'll be fine, Lyra. You're just having one of those scary 'what if' moments every girl has before the special day of they lives comes. Trust me on this. You will do beautifully out there. Because once you start walking down the aisle with Mr. Evans, it'll be just you and Loen from there. And you'll know what to do once that time comes," I said and Lyra smiled, squeezing my hand slightly as a thank you. I smiled and squeezed her hand back.
"And besides, I will be there by your side, supporting both you and Loen all the way. Now, just sit back and relax, okay? I am going to turn you into the most beautiful bride anyone has ever seen in this town," I said, making her sit down in front of the mirror and Lyra giggled, watching me grab the comb in my hand as I started styling her hair.
Time skips (after about an hour later),
After applying makeup on Lyra's face, I finished putting the veil on her head and smiled, looking at Lyra's reflection in the mirror. "What do you think?" I asked, gently resting my hands on each of her shoulders while Lyra looked into the mirror with an astonished expression on her face. "W-Wow, I look...so unlike me," she said half-jokingly and I chuckled, giving her shoulders a reassuring squeeze. "Oh Lyra, you look absolutely beautiful."
Before Lyra could say anything in return, a soft knock on the door drew our attention and we turned to see Lyra's mother, Mrs. Evans, coming into the room, a smile immediately making its way onto her beautiful face when she saw us. "Ah, there are my lovely maidens. Oh, my dear, you look absolutely more beautiful than you usually do. You did a very great job, (Y/n)," Hannah said, giving Lyra a quick tight hug which she did the same with me as well. "I didn't do much, Hannah. Lyra is a natural beauty that she's basically glowing with beauty even without me styling her up," I said and Lyra and Hannah giggled. "Now you're exaggerating, (Y/n)," Lyra said while I fake gasped. "What? It's the truth! My best friend is a beauty!"
"Okay, you two. It's almost time we leave for the church," Hannah said with a chuckle before she looked at me. "(Y/n), darling, can you give me and Lyra a moment? I'd like to have a word with her before we go," she said and I immediately understood that she wanted a mother-daughter moment alone before Lyra's wedding so, I nodded and immediately started heading for the door, giving Lyra a reassuring smile before I left. I started heading back towards my room. The wedding basically starts at three hours from now on and we're leaving to the church within half an hour. I picked up my pace towards my room to get my purse while grabbing a quick breakfast on the way and just as I reached to my room, I stopped when I saw a piece of folded note lying on the floor in front of my door along with a red rose attached between the notes.ย
Huh? Is this...for me?
I looked around, seeing no one. I didn't see anyone while coming here as well. I knelt down and picked up the note. I opened it and my eyes widened slightly when I saw who it was from.
You looked absolutely beautiful when I saw you from the garden this morning.ย
Though it could have been just my imagination, you look a little sad looking into the distance.ย I don't know the reason that made you sad, but I hope I can bring a smile onto your face when you see this roseย I got from the garden. Forgive me, but I dare to say it looks as beautiful as you do when you smile.
Nicholas.
After reading his note, I let a small smile made its way onto my face. Well, he knows how to make a girl smile, I will give him that...though that didn't really make me feel anything special for Nicholas. So, he came to stay at our mansion not only to stay just for the wedding, but to ask for my hand. And father said my marriage to him could save our family business. Should I really...I trailed my thoughts, now looking down at the ring on my finger. My hands started trembling again at the thought of taking it off for a marriage with another man.ย
No, snap out of it, (Y/n). You made a promise with Edward. He could still be out there somewhere...But this could be a huge help to father and my brother as well. It'd be selfish of me to just refuse any men again and again and burden Loen more with my life problems anymore, especially now that he's getting married. You need to think, (Y/n). This is for your family. I closed the door behind me and walked towards my dressing table as I looked into the reflection of myself in the mirror before looking down at my ring once again. I've never taken the ring off until now unless it was absolutely necessary, but now...
My breathe hitched and my hands shook violently as I reached for it to take it off. My heart ached painfully in my chest when memories of Edward and me started flashing before my eyes. Tears blurred my vision and I took in another sharp breath as I pulled my hands away, shaking my head. No, I can't do this. Not when there's still one little chance that you could still be out there, Edward, I thought, recalling back to today's last dream I had about Edward. I held my hand close to my chest, holding the ring as close as to me as possible. I haven't been to that place for a long time ever since that day as well. A knock came on my door, and I quickly made sure I looked presentable before I answered, "Yes? Who's it?"
"It's me, Harson, my lady. It's almost time to leave," Mr. Harson's voice came from the other side of the room and I smiled as I grabbed my purse and opened the door to see Mr. Harson standing there. "Thank you, Mr. Harson. I will go get Lyra and Mrs. Evans then. Can you please get the carriage for us?" I asked politely and Mr. Harson smiled as he nodded, "Of course." I nodded at him and turned to walk away, but stopped when I heard him called me again, "My lady?"ย
"Yes, Mr. Harson?" I asked, turning to look at Mr. Harson who was giving me a gentle smile. "I think we're going to have a very nice weather on this lovely day for Master Loen's wedding. And I believe (H/n) is going to be happy if you see her today. Plus, you haven't seen her for a while for quite some time now," he said and my eyes widened when I realized what he was trying to suggest. I smiled. Honestly, this man who is also my grandfather figure just knows exactly what I need sometimes. He knew I always go for a ride with (H/n) whenever I needed some alone time to think so, he's saying he'll prepare (H/n) to go out just in case if I needed some time alone which I do.
"Thank you, Mr. Harson. I think I will go see (H/n) after the wedding today," I said and he smiled as he nodded, "Very well, my lady. I will go prepare right away," he said and left while I smiled and watched him leave. I took a deep breath and calmed myself down. Let's focus on the wedding first, (Y/n). Then, we can have some time alone to think things through.
A/N: I know you guys are probably getting a bit impatient to meet Edward soon now. But don't worry, the two of you will be meeting very soon after one more chapter.
