Episode 68: Brotherly Love
A/N: OK since I figured Gouenji isn't a good third pair, I tried thinking if it's gonna be Fubuki or Kidou. Then I realized, it's Teikoku centered. So yeah. either Kidou, Genda, or Fudou. "You and Genda-san do make a perfect match."
"Rosa, please." I rolled my eyes at her smirking face. "Koujirou and I, are not a couple, and we'll never be one."
"But you guys have been childhood friends for nine years now! Surely the both of you can't just 'see other people', now can you?" Haruna gave the stink-eye at me.
"I have to focus and avenge my mom." I put on my jacket. "I don't have time for love or stuff like that. It's getting in my way."
"Don't tell me because Onii-chan rejected you..." Haruna gave a look of concern.
"Rena, I didn't know, but I'm sorry, I... don't really see a vision with you and me."
I shook my head. "Look, I've moved on from that, OK? Also," I looked around. Only me, Rosa, and Haruna were awake at the moment, but Kidou and Jirou woke up earlier than me. I checked the training grounds but they weren't there. "Where's Jirou?"
"Oh, he's with Kidou, I think." Rosa said. "They went sight-seeing or something."
**************************************************
Of all the wrong timings I've been in, this was, by far, the worse one.
Kidou and Jirou were practicing near a basketball court, and they were using "Twin Boost". When they used it for the umpteenth time (i dunno, third or fourth), I unknowingly ran to them, when the ball hit me. Luckily, I got no injuries, but it hurt like hell.
"Sorry about that, sis." Jirou laughed nervously, and I sweat dropped.
"It's fine. It's my fault anyway. I didn't know you were practicing." I said, shrugging. "I should've just waited."
"And you'd say your usual greeting at us?" Kidou laughed a little. 'No, Rena. He rejected you. Don't even. Focus on your goals; Protect them, and avenge my mom.'
"Kidou," I heard Jirou say, snapping out of my thoughts. (I was walking next to Kidou and he was next to Jirou). "I'm glad to be able to play with you on the same team again."
"Me too, Jirou." Kidou agreed. It's actually pretty nice that the three of us are on the same team, and not playing on the field as enemies.
"After Kageyama left Teikoku Academy, we vowed to reach the top using our own soccer. Right, sis?" Jirou looked at me while smiling.
"Yeah." I smiled back. "Let's make that dream a reality this time around."
"At this FFI, we'll become the best in the world." We stopped walking and Jirou looked at Kidou.
They gave a high-five to each other. "Yeah."
I couldn't help but chuckle. Then my gaze averted. Akio was there, watching a man walking to his car. Hold up, that man looks... familiar...
"That's not... Kageyama, right?" I tugged on Kidou and Jirou's jacket sleeves. Kageyama had already went into the car. Fudou was right. He's alive. Oh god...
We were about to run across when a bus dropped someone off. By the time the bus left, Fudou and the car was already gone. "Ichiban was right..." I muttered.
"Right about what, Rena?" Kidou looked at me. "Don't tell me you know this?"
I sighed and I explained everything, including Kuroi's help along with Nami's. Not the dream. I couldn't tell them about the dream. Kidou and Jirou were shocked, luckily not angry. Instead I got lectured by Kidou, and an old woman walked by us and said, "You both make a lovely couple!" (Honestly, first Inoue-san, then a random old lady)
"I'll catch up with Fudou, you go and find Kageyama." I insisted. Jirou hesitated, but agreed anyway. Kidou just said to be careful before we split up.
After awhile, I caught up with Akio. "Akio, what the heck was that?!" I asked furiously.
"Was what?" Akio stared at me coldly.
"With Kageyama! It's bad enough most of team can't trust you, but by seeing him, you're gonna get in more trouble then you are now!" I scolded.
"I'm trying to help you---"
"Help?! Well you're help's gonna bring all of us in a heap of trouble, Fudou Akio! If I were---!"
"Shut your trap."
************************************************************
"How was it?"
"I got nothing. Rena?"
"I couldn't find him." I said. Jirou and Kidou looked perplexed, but Kidou still remained in his regular composure. "I see. He might not be in this area anymore."
"Was that really him, you guys?" Jirou asked us. "Maybe we're mistaking him for someone else."
"That couldn't be possible." Kidou looked at the road. "I've always watched him since I was little. That was him without a doubt."
"Kidou..." Jirou looked at him.
"If Kageyama has truly slipped into this FFI..." He suddenly turned to us. "I can't put you, Endou, and the others in danger!"
I gave a look of concern and worry at Kidou, and Jirou did the same.
***************************************
"Italy's area? Nami, are you sure?"
"I told the coach you're taking a different practice route, which he didn't buy... So I told the truth. If anyone asks him, he'll just say you're practicing elsewhere."
"OK, Nami." I sighed. "I'm in the bus already. I'll see you."
"Careful and good luck." Nami hung up. I groaned inwardly. Kidou, Jirou, Fudou, Endou and I were one the same bus. Literally, it was awkward. Kidou and Jirou had explained to Endou to as why the three of us weren't concentrating on practice. For now, since the match against Argentina is a day after tomorrow, we'll wrap up our concerns 'till then.
"All right!" Endou smiled, "Let's all stop Kageyama together!"
Jirou and Kidou looked at Akio, giving Endou a look of confusion, and I gave a look at worry at Endou and Akio.
"The two of us at least plan to stop Kageyama..." Kidou crossed his arms and glared slightly at Akio. (for some reason, I can see the actions of his eyes through his goggles, but not his eye color) "But that one could be going back to him instead."
"What?"
"We saw Fudou meet with Kageyama alone." Jirou said.
"Is that true?" Endou looked at Fudou, who answered with a, "Who knows", very coldly.
"Fudou!" Kidou wanted to say something else, but Endou said the unbelievable;
"I trust Fudou."
"Endou..." Kidou was still hesitant about this.
"Fudou is just as important a friend to me as Kidou and Jirou." Endou said.
"But----"
"I believe in all of you." Endou smiled.
I turned away from them, closing my eyes. 'Funny... Well, Endou is Endou after all.' I thought, shrugging.
"Ah, I forgot about Rena. My bad."
My eyes widened slightly at this. "Huh, well that's a first. You actually said that."
*****************************************************************
Jirou and Kidou told Endou of how I managed to know all this. Endou was worried at first, then said he'd help, along with the rest, which I said that he can't tell them. For now, at least.
"I heard that Orpheus is going to be disbanded. Listen, Rena. Kageyama used methods, just like back in Teikoku, to hurt the members since a match will decide who's going to the representatives. Also, may I remind you that---"
"Nami, you do realize you're on loudspeaker, and Kidou, Endou, Fudou and Jirou can hear you." I said, sweat dropping.
"Never mind that!" I heard Nami scold. "Listen, you and the rest have to stop another injury!"
"Got it, Nami." I hung up. Right now, we were walking around Italy's area, in hopes of finding Fideo or his team. It'd be better if we'd find both of them. "Rena, how come you didn't tell us at all? I thought we're good now!" Endou scolded, which was not like him.
"I didn't want you guys getting hurt because of me." I said.
"Is it because of the nightmares?"
I turned to Akio in shock. "How did--"
"Ichiban told me." Akio muttered. I swore I saw him blush. Urgh, Fudou Akio, you are dead to me when this is over.
"Hand me a---"
"Here." I said, kicking a random soccer ball I found near the alleyway. Thank Kuroi for placing those there. And I said it was a good idea. "Save whoever's being saved!" I kicked the ball to him, and he kicked the ball at falling blocks of wood, to change it's course. 'Good thinking, Kidou. It's expected of ya.'
Kidou ran over to where the crash was heard, and we followed. There, we saw Fideo and his teammates. Just my luck! I just wished that we'd find both! Lucky!
After that, we explained to Fideo the concept of what was happening. Soon after Endou suggested that we'd join Orpheus so that they can win the match tomorrow. Unfortunately, none agreed to it, so Kidou suggested that they'd find Kageyama and follow Akio. I decided to stay back, but since it was risky for me to go alone, Fideo insisted that I'd stay with his teammates for at least a few hours until they were done searching.
In any case, let me describe what it was like when I was with Orpheus.
I was a complete and utter nervous wreck.
Fideo was nice enough to take me to the lodge and to explain everything. I just sat there on the bench with a boy who had the same hair style as Aki's (except that his was longer), light blue eyes, and he had bandages around his left arm. Nami texted that he along with their goalkeeper was the one who got out from the hospital for a couple of hours. (he also texted that the boy was I sitting next to was Gianluca Zanardi, and their goalkeeper was Gigi Blasi. Also, he texted almost all the names of the players.)
"Etto, Fideo talks about you a lot." Gianluca started a conversation.
"Fideo? Talking about me?" I stared at him in disbelief.
"A video was posted online a couple of years ago. The video was a five-year old girl, doing an exact copy of 'Odin's Sword'." He said. "He wanted to fight you when you get in the FFI. When you came on our field, Fideo was happy to see you."
"That can't be true, Zanardi." I said. Fideo? Talking about me? No way.
"It's true. And just call me Gianluca." He huffed. "Also, are you by any chance related to the Vargas twins?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"I... see." He somehow cringed a little, but I shrugged it off.
"Ah, they're back." Gianluca looked at the gate. "You should probably go in. Fideo might think I forced you out here."

(Rena's Dream)
"What the... huh?"
Rena found herself standing on a podium, and light was only showing her. Everything was like purple fog all around, and everything was quiet...
...until she heard a scream.
"Kidou?! Kidou!" Rena ran to the source of his screams, but by the time she got there, Kidou was breathing heavily on the ground. Next to him was Fideo, who had bruises all over. A bright light suddenly flashed, revealing the rest of the remaining Orpheus players, injured. Rena started backing away. "No... No, no, no, no, NO!!!" Tears were streaming down her face. The light disappeared, and another scream was heard.
"No... not mom! Not her!" She ran to the source of the scream again. Another light flashed and it revealed her family, including her mother on the ground, unable to move. "This is all a nightmare! It won't happen! I swear to god, just a nightmare!"
"Just a nightmare, you say?"
The light disappeared and revealed itself again. On the podium was Trina, Rika and her other self, smirking. "You! I thought you were better than this!" Rena shouted at Rika and Trina. "And how come you're back?!" Rena looked at her other self.
"It's funny to see you suffer, so I stay." Her other self cackled.
"You... why? Why are you doing this?!"
"To teach you a lesson!" Trina shouted, glaring at her. "You should stop playing soccer! Thanks to you, everyone will get hurt... or worse!"
"That won't happen!" Rena defended.
"It happened already. Remember Shin Teikoku? Genesis?" Rika sneered. "We'll give you one last thing before you wake up~"
Light surrounded her, and it was the worst one of all.
Her friends, her teammates, and her brother were all on the ground, almost dead. Rena screamed loudly and went on her knees, crying. "THIS ISN'T HAPPENING! THIS ISN'T HAPPENING!!!"
"But it will happen if you continue to play." Her other self, along with Rika and Trina appeared behind her.
Darkness engulfed around her and...
(Reality)
"RENA! Rena, calm down! Rena, look at me! I'm here!"
I woke up in a shock, tears in my eyes. "Rena, you were having another nightmare... Rena, I don't care if it's about monsters or predicting the damn future, just tell us what happened!" Jirou demanded.
"A-A-All of you w-were... al-almost d-dead..." I managed to blurt out. "K-Kidou, F-Fideo, m-mom... and you... And it was my fault!"
"Rena..." Jirou looked at me with even more worry than before.
"Trina, Urabe, and my o-other s-self was there... S-Showing me the painful reality, of w-what's g-gonna happen, if I stay with you guys!" I cried again.
I felt arms wrap around me... It's been a while since he hugged me like this.
"It's OK... I promise you, Rena, it won't happen. None of it will..." He comforted. "God, I'm failing as a brother right now. I'm sorry that it was my fault that became a part of this. I assure you," He broke the hug and looked at me, wiping my tears off. "All of us will be safe. We'll stop whatever danger may come."
"Ji..." I smiled.
"And this time, we'll protect each other, like we're supposed to." Jirou hugged me again.
"I love you, Jirou."
"I love you too, sis."
