Episode 42: Memories and Suspicions
A/N: Play the song when Mizu says, "Oh, you noticed too, huh?" And I added a scene on my own so... yeah you know.
I excused myself and went back out. I honestly did not want to train in an alien based facility. It could be a trap! Sure, we had three days left before the match, (I knew because I asked Kenjirou about it before he left) but we... well, I have to say the facility was pretty good. I'll just force myself tomorrow.
"Hey!"
I turned around and saw Mizu. Instead of the CCC uniform, she was wearing her Hakuren uniform. Well, Jyou did say she studied in Hakuren. Mizu had short, cerulean blue hair and red eyes.
"How come you left like that?" Mizu asked.
"I want to train in open fields." I shrugged.
"Maybe you should take a little break and we can have a chat?" Mizu asked.
"Oh uh... of course." I said.
Mizu and I managed to get some drinks and sat on a nearby bench. We talked about soccer, life, snow, and other things.
"Say, when you were in Hakuren, did you notice anything strange about Sh---Fubuki?" I asked, hoping that I might get something out of her.
"Oh," Mizu looked down, her smile turning into a sad one. "You noticed too, huh?"
"What is it?" I asked again.
"Shi-chan had an older twin brother named Atsuya." Mizu started, looking up at the sky. "They were the perfect offense and defense team back then, and they always won every soccer match. Their parents were very proud of them."
Mizu looked back down, looking sad, as if she didn't want to tell what happened. "Then one day... when he, Atsuya, and their parents were coming home from a soccer match, and avalanche went out of nowhere... only Shi-chan survived, because Atsuya pushed him out of the car before the snow hit them..."
"Mizu..." I saw tears in her eyes.
"Shi-chan and Atsu-chan..." She sniffed and wiped the tears off her eyes. "They were my friends when we were kids... when Atsu-chan died, he forgot all about me..."
I patted Mizu's back and gave her my handkerchief, which she used to wipe her tears before looking back up at me, now smiling. "I have a picture of them here in my pocket."
She pulled a small picture out of her pocket and handed it to me.
It was Shirou, and I'm guessing the one he's with must be Atsuya. They did look alike, in the eyes anyway. Their hairstyles are completely different. I handed back the picture, in which Mizu kept it in her pocket again.
"I have a picture of me with them, but that's... a personal one." Mizu said.
"Nah, it's OK." I said. "It's just... weird whenever I see him play offense and defense at the same time."
I gave Mizu a sympathetic look. "He can overcome this." I said.
Mizu smiled at me. "You're right... Can I ask a favor?"
"Sure." I smiled back. "What is it?"
"...can you ask Shi-chan if he remembers me? I have my own picture here." Mizu said, pulling out another picture.
Mizu was wearing her Hakuren uniform, and her hair was tied to the side by a cotton styled elastic band. She was winking while waving.
"I'll ask him, don't worry." I said, putting the picture in my pocket.
"Thanks. I can see why people like you; You're always there for them when they need you the most." Mizu complemented. I froze, then stood up.
"Err, I'll go back. Maybe the others are looking for me." I said, and without hearing her response, I walked ahead.
"I can see why people like you; You're always there for them when they need you the most."
"Yeah but... were they there for me when I needed them the most?"
#####################################################
"Ittai!"
"Come on, Rena!" Kuroi shouted. "You handled rough training before, you can surely handle this kind!"
Seriously, why did I ever force myself to be here?
"One more time!" Kidou commanded.
Our practice method was to run, then turn back while dodging feet. Yep. Aliens. Of course they would be advanced in freaking technology. Shirou was with us this time, since Kidou had asked him to. His defense skills are amazing... but even so...
"What's wrong, Fubuki?"
I turned around and saw Shirou, who stopped walking when he heard Kidou.
"I quit," He started, then, his eyes turned yellow. "I can't waste my time on stupid stuff like this!"
He left the room, leaving everyone, including me, confused. Maybe I should follow him, but how can I do that--- oh, right.
I yawned and stretched my arms. "I think I'll go and train with him. He can't be alone in there, right?"
Everyone looked at each other, then at me. "Err, alright then. Just come back right after." Kidou said. I gave a nod at him as I walked out, and I heard Endou say, "What was that all about?"
When I found Shirou, he was face to face with a moving machine that looked like a goalkeeper. It was... freaky...
"Perfection is everything. Take this, Desarm!"
I saw him kick the ball strongly, and straight in before I entered. Right after a couple of shots, I walked in.
"Yo, Fubuki."
He looked at me, and I widened my eyes a little. "Uh... you're alone?" He asked.
"So? What about it?" He asked harshly.
"I'd wanna train with you, but uh, you left before I could ask." I said, well, lied anyway.
"Tch. I don't know why you're here, but leave Shirou, alone." He said coldly. 'Wait. He just said that I should leave Shirou alone? But I'm talking to him right now...'
"You are Fubuki Shirou, right?" I asked.
I heard a quiet gasp, before he gripped my shoulders, tightly.
"Just stay out of this! Just--- get out!"
He pushed me out and I fell to the ground, again. The ground really must love me since I always fall on it. (Sarcasm is intended)
I stood up and dusted myself. Wait... if he just...
"Only Shi-chan survived, because Atsuya pushed him out of the car before the snow can hit them..."
'Atsuya's soul went inside him?'
=============================================
Gina, Jyou, Kuroi and I slept on the roof again. I couldn't sleep for some reason. I sighed. 'How did his soul get inside him? Is... that even possible?'
"Sakuma-san?"
"Eh?" My thoughts were snapped out when I saw Kino. "How come you're not sleeping?"
"I... couldn't sleep." I said. "How come you're up?" I asked.
"It's Fubuki-kun..."
"Fubuki?"
The two of us went back in the training facility to see that Shirou was training alone again. I know that Kidou said that we'll let him do what he wants for now, but this...
"I know Endou would say he's fired up." I said, looking at Kino.
"I know, but overdoing it---"
"We should get some sleep."
We looked back, and we saw that Shirou was talking to himself.
"It's late and we need rest."
"Like hell I'll sleep. There's no worth living unless we're perfect."
"Is he, talking to himself? But something about it seems weird..." Kino said. My suspicions were correct. Atsuya's soul did enter in him, but how?
"It's over for us anyway if we ruin our health."
"I don't care if it makes me puke---"
"Atsuya! You're going to make everyone worry!"
"I'll go back and wake up Endou." Kino whispered before going off. I gave a late nod and looked back.
"Sakuma-san's already suspected us so---"
"She already knew, goddamnit! What next?! That Hoshi girl will come again?!"
"Stop it!"
"They're just holding you back! Just stop---"
"Shirou?"
I entered inside and he looked at me. I gave a worried glance. "Uh, it's late and we should get to bed. You need help?"
He gave a light nod. How was I gonna-- right.
"Get on my back and pretend to sleep." I offered. "I'll just tell them you fell asleep right after you shot one."
"Eh? Sakuma-san--"
"Just Rena. Now hop on already."
I saw him hesitate, but nonetheless he got on my back anyway. I walked out of the room with him on my shoulders. And by his expression at me, I think he was going to say, "Arigato", but he fell asleep before he could.
I smiled to myself as we walked back to the caravan.
