Episode 26: Training Camp!
"Training camp?! With a bunch of boys?!"
I sweat dropped heavily at my dad. "Dad, three girls will be with me. So technically, I'm not the only girl there." I said.
"Believe in your own daughter, Okita." My mom said sternly. "Besides, she can handle herself. She's already 14!"
"But Nozomi, with boys!" My dad persuaded. "And she's not wearing her jersey either!"
"She left it in the wash. Besides, she has the jacket on." My mom said, shrugging
While they were ranting about it, I just sat on the couch. I didn't know that even a persistent guy like him could get so mad...
(Earlier)
"Kuroi! We've been at it for two hours already! Give it a rest!"
"Not until I can make a perfect shoot!"
Kuroi kept kicking the ball into the goal while I kept dribbling. Everyone had been really angry or upset during that encounter with Afuro yesterday. Kuroi was really mad. Heck, I was too, but I calmed myself down anyway.
By kicking the wall a couple of times in my room before my cousin Lovino showed up.
It was Kuroi's 27th kick and he already fell to the ground panting. "Kuroi, I told you that you should give it a rest."
"Not a chance! I wanna be ready when we face Zeus and that female idiot!" Kuroi said angrily.
"Act like that and you're gonna get hurt." I muttered.
From the other end of the room, Endou had been repeatedly catching the balls but some of them ended up in the goal or straight into his stomach. Well, it was on maximum level. How else would he get hurt?
After an hour or so, Coach Hibiki and Natsumi had called us over to tell us that all of us were going on a training camp, which basically meant spending the night at school.
"Training camp?" Endou asked.
"Yeah. Spend the night at school and make a meal with the whole team." Coach Hibiki said.
"Spending a night at school will be helpful." My mom pointed out. "I used to do that with my teammates and we won the finals!"
"It's true! Coach Nozomi had won 4 years in a row!" Otonashi exclaimed.
"I've gotten permission for it." Natsumi said.
"Training camp, eh?" Shourinji asked excitedly.
"Now that you mentioned it, we haven't had a training camp before." Shishido said.
"Spending the night at school sounds fun!" Kurimatsu exclaimed.
"Come to think of it, it would be the first time that me and Rena are away from our siblings." Kuroi said.
"Good point. It would be nice to have training camp without Jirou. Don't tell him I said that though." I said.
"Don't worry dear, your brother won't know a word." My mom said, smiling.
"Wait a moment, Coach."
Everyone looked at Endou. He was looking down and clenching his fists.
"This isn't the time to be that relaxed. The match against Zeus is in two days. I have to complete Majin the Hand before that..." He said.
"Endou, I know that Hibiki-san is your coach, but I have a say in this as well." My mom said, giving that declaring tone of hers. "With that practice of yours, completing it would be from close to almost."
"I won't know unless I try!" Endou said, raising his tone a little.
"Let me put this in a word that you would understand. Completing it would be impossible." My mom said.
"Impossible...?" Endou looked at my mom.
"I haven't known your grandfather for long, but I know that technique was hard to master, and it took hours, days, or even weeks of training. Majin the Hand isn't an easy technique, Mamoru." My mom crossed her arms and gave him that look that she would give me and Jirou if we did something bad.
"Your mind is obsessed with hissatsu techniques. Like someone I know before she had---"
"Mom, don't." I said, cutting off her sentence. Did she had to bring it up?
"Like Nozomi said, it's impossible to complete it in that condition." Coach Hibiki said.
"True, it might be a good idea to stop thinking about Majin the Hand for a while." Kidou said.
"I agree." Ichinose said. "In America, they say not to rush things except when catching cockroaches."
"Don't you mean, 'Nothing should be done in haste but gripping a flea'?" Kino said.
"I guess you could say it like that too." Ichinose said, sweat dropping and scratching his neck.
"Then it's been decided that we'll have a training camp." Natsumi said, clapping her hands.
"Everyone should make preparations and meet at 5." Coach Hibiki said.
(Present Time)
I sighed.
"Rena, let's go!" My mom called out.
I grabbed my duffle bag. "Coming mom!"
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
"Err.... I remember sleeping at school but I never remembered anything like this..."
I nodded in agreement as everyone was just doing their normal things when they're at home. I mentally sweat dropped. Even Kuroi was doing one of his judo defenses whenever he's upset. Can't he just do it at home.
"I'll go and find Hibiki-san... Tell me if anything happens." My mom said before walking out.
And then... Otonashi, Kino, and Kuroi looked at me.
"W-What are you all looking at?" I asked.
Kuroi smirked. "Looks like you forgot to get it out of the wash, again?"
"S-Shut up." I said.
"Rena-chan, I kinda thought you didn't like these kinds of clothes." Otonashi said, smirking.
"It was in the wash! Plus, I can't remember where I left my track jacket..." I muttered.
Soon some of the others were already cooking up dinner. I was with Kuroi. I was making my Katsudon Onigiri while Kuroi was making potato stew, or I guess curry. "Rena, you don't mind Haruna calling you, 'Rena-chan', do you?" He asked.
"No." I said, putting the chopped bits of katsudon on the rice.
"What if... Kidou called you that?" He smirked at me.
I threw the rice ball at him. "Unless you wanna eat the dirt, then don't even think about helping me at all."
"Sorry! But still though, you did say his first name~" He teased.
"That's it. You're dead to me." I muttered, glaring at him.
--------------------------------------------------------
"I'm going to the toilet, Natsumi."
"Go on ahead."
I nodded and went inside the dark school building. It wasn't that scary, but considering the fact that there's no light on, or any sign of people inside.
"Found it."
After 5 minutes in the bathroom, (because I used the toilet, washed my hands and face, and fixed my hair) I heard a noise coming from the corridors. I looked around, but saw nothing. I even checked behind me to see if there was a guy with a red cape that offered toilet paper, and then died if you either picked one of them.
I decided to look around a bit more, but only for a while until I go back to the others. Another 3 minutes, and I heard that same, cluttering noise again. OK, I gulped and did what any person would do at a situation like this.
I looked behind me, and I saw something black with red eyes.
I knew what to do at times like this.
I ran the heck out of there!
Literally, I ran out until I bumped into Kabeyama, who was also running away from something, along with Kageno.
"Rena! What happened?! Did you see the ghost of your grandma?!" Kuroi asked.
"I saw something, and I heard something! There is a ghost in that school!" I said.
"Then, let's check it out!"
"ARE YOU CRAZY?! What if that thing murders us all?!"
"Uh.... at least we'll remember you?"
"GENDA KUROI!!!"
*******************************************************
After that conclusion, Handa had suggested that it was Kageyama's underlings and cause an accident before the finals. Yeah... I don't think so. A ghost was in there, and it wants to murder us alive! Well, that is murder anyway...
"Rena-chan, you're shaking a little..." Kino said.
"Y-You n-noticed?" I asked, looking at her.
Soon we went to classroom #3, but we didn't see anything or anyone there.
"No one's here..." I muttered.
"Maybe they got away?" Kuroi suggested.
"There he is! This way!"
Ichinose was running after somebody. Endou had taken Shishido's pillow and kicked it at the running guy, and it was a direct hit in the head.
"Nice shoot!" Shourinji exclaimed.
"ENDOU MAMORU!!!"
I gulped. "Endou, I think you just hit my mom...."
And I was right. My mom walked over to us, steam coming out of her ears and three irks on her head. "I can't believe you just did that to a woman! What if I had my back bent or something?! I'm pretty sure your parents wouldn't pay anything that you---"
"Mom, it was an accident. We thought there was... someone working for Kageyama." I said.
"Why on earth would you think that?!" She asked furiously.
"Kabeyama, Kageno, and Rena said that there was a ghost." Handa deadpanned.
"There is!" I said.
"Honey, you do realize ghosts don't exist.... well, you were terrified of youkai..." My mom said.
"Please, don't bring the youkai incident up..." I said.
"Youkai incident?" Endou looked at me.
I sighed.

"Mom, what in the world did you lift?"
"Oh, a training thing. They just asked for a lift so I helped them."
It was a treadmill with some holes and obstacles. It didn't work for the old Inazuma Eleven, so they thought it would work if they tried it on us instead.
Endou was the first one to try, while Kidou, Someoka, Handa, and Kuroi were spinning some handles from each side. He kept tripping, that's for sure. Although all of us, including me, were determined to help him train. All of us had spun the handles while he was doing it.
"Rena, let's talk outside, if that's fine." My mom said.
"Oh.... sure mom."
We were behind a wall where no one would have been able to find us. My mom sighed and smiled before gripping my shoulders. "It's nice seeing you back into your old self, Rena. Me and your father had been worried that you wouldn't be able to go back into your original state."
"Mom, I'm back to normal now." I said. "I had help, when I didn't know there was help in the first place."
"But I'm worried... your match with Zeus.... if you get injured then..." My mom had her grip a little tighter now. I held her shoulder.
"Mom, I won't get injured. Don't worry." I said, smiling.
The both us had went back, only to find everyone else training hard. My mom gave me a pat on the shoulder before walking over to Coach Hibiki. Glancing at them, I could tell they were telling something...
"Watch out!"
"Huh?"
A ball was coming at my direction, and at a shocking speed nonetheless. I had used a judo position (the one where you put your arm out while the other one is compressed), and had punched the ball with an immense amount of strength. Weird, how come there was a blue aura when I punched that---
"You made your first technique!"
Kuroi had given me a fist bump. "That was awesome! I did not know that a judo position would be good for a technique! Man, you are getting back to your old self!"
"I made a--- how?" I asked.
"Rena-chan! Kuroi-chan! You both are last!" Otonashi called out.
Welp, time to get on that treadmill and start.
