Episode 25: A Challenge From The Gods
I had skipped a day from school again, and from Kuroi, I heard that Endou lost his mojo, but immediately got it back. That was... pretty quick though. Losing your persistence then after a while getting it back.
"So, about the detective?" I asked. Kuroi and I were inside the club room. We'd train later when Kuroi was finished with his story. I was right about Kindaichi, but I haven't heard about the inspector. Kindaichi and Onigarawa had the same case about Kageyama, but when Kuroi had told them about his parents' murder, they bookmarked it as an old case. They'd solve it right after the Nationals were over.
"Yeah, but at least afterwards, I can find out who killed them." Kuroi said. Yeah, at least he can find out so he can get his vengeance. I know I would.
"Well," I stood up. "Good luck in finding who killed them."
"Aren't you gonna train?" He asked.
"Nah. For now I better help the managers." I said.
So the both of us had gone out of the room. Kuroi had joined practice while I was with Kino and Natsumi. Otonashi had to do something for the journalism club so I was in her stead. I was taking a video, for, you know, observation.
"Endou and the others are getting desperate." Kino said with a worried tone.
"But what are we going to say to them?" I asked, and they looked at me. "Well, you and Otonashi at least."
When Otonashi came back, the three started talking, and I wasn't really paying attention. I was more focused on their practice instead. I was getting worried though... What if the training didn't work? I mean... wait, I'm being too much of a pessimist.
"Rena-chan!"
"Eh?"
"Rena-chan, you're easily distracted, aren't you?" Otonashi asked.
"Y-Yeah." I mumbled.
"Anyway, do you wanna help us?" She asked.
"Help? With what?"
Their idea was making Onigiri for the team. Knowing Kuroi, he'd probably finish one plate in an instant. I knew how to make them, thanks to my grandmother. (Although she kinda forced me to make them on my own.... Dang you grandma)
All of us were molding the hot rice into triangles, and Natsumi.... well, I'm gonna say she didn't really make it into a triangle. Coming from a rich family, obviously she lets the maids cook her food... kinda like someone I know.
Then Kino had thought Natsumi a trick on making them. Putting a cup of rice in a bowl, then covering it with another bowl and shaking it, until it molded a little and cooled down. Good trick though.
"Rena-chan, you made Onigiri before, right?" Kino asked.
"Yeah... my grandma thought me how, the hard way." I said.
"Hmm? What method?" Natsumi asked.
"Oh uh, it's like this..."
I grabbed a cup of rice and molded it into a ball shape, and I threw it on the table, twice. It was to let the rice cool down and soften a little before molding it into a triangle. My grandma had taught me that trick, and I managed to make my own katsudon Onigiri. I did plan on putting them with the plain Onigiris after we finished.
While we were finishing up with them, Otonashi had spotted my lunchbox. (I had this habit of hiding my food so no one would ever find it, or ask for some)
"Eh? Fried Onigiri?" Kino asked.
"No, Kino-san. Try taking a bite." I said.
Kino took a small bite out of it, and then looked at me with astonishment. "Katsudon Onigiri!" She exclaimed.
"Yeah... I made that, with the leftover katsudon that we had for dinner." I said.
"How?" Natsumi looked at me.
"Oh, I just mince the katsudon and mixed it in with the rice. Originally, I was going to make the katsudon into tiny bits, but I kinda put in a little bit of the chicken breading." I laughed a little awkwardly. Yeah, that was my mistake. I put too much chicken breading, and it made the Onigiri look like Fried Onigiri.
"It's, not bad?" I asked.
"Bad? It's delicious!" Kino exclaimed.
We were all done making the Onigiri by the time everyone was done practicing. Everyone enjoyed the Onigiri, and everyone was kinda surprised that my katsudon Onigiri was eaten up last.
"Man, whoever made this is a genius!" Asuka exclaimed, taking another bite.
"Then, you'd call me a genius if I said I made them?" I asked.
"EH?! You made this?!" Kuroi asked with a shocked tone.
"Err... that was my lunch, but I'm not hungry so you guys can eat it." I said nervously. Nervously? What is wrong with me?
"You haven't really tasted your own cooking, haven't you?" Kurimatsu asked.
"Uh... no?" I said. Everyone sweat dropped. What? I let my mom, dad, brother, or any other relative taste my food before I serve them out... but I never really tasted my own cooking, not even once.
"Here, you haven't eaten lunch, take mine." Kidou handed out his.
"No, no. I'm not hungry." I said. To be honest, I really was, but I can just make some more at home. I just hope we have leftover katsudon at home....
"Sakuma, either you eat this, or I'm doing it." He lightly threatened.
"Do what?" Ichinose looked at him.
He pinched my cheek.
Kidou Yuuto pinched my cheek.
"Ow! Yuuto!"
"Are you going to eat it or not?"
"Let go of my cheek first before I eat it, goggle-head!"
After he let go of my cheek, I grabbed the Onigiri from his hand and took a bite out of it.
"So? How's your cooking taste?" Asuka asked.
"I.... well now, I didn't know it'd be that good." I said, scratching the back of my neck.
Kidou smirked at me. An irk appeared on my head and I flicked his forehead. "I'm not stopping from flicking you, Kidou."
"So now it's Kidou? You were saying my first name awhile ago, Rena-kun." Kidou smirked again.
I felt my face turn into fifty shades of red.
"Baka!"
"OW!"
------------------------------------------------------------------
I was joining practice with the others this time. Kuroi was practicing a new goalkeeper move with Matsuno while I was doing my usual stretching. I left my shirt in the washing machine last night and forgot to place it in the dryer, so I had to practice wearing an undershirt. I didn't really mind people staring, since, I was used to be being stared at.
"Dragon Tornado!"
"Twin Boost!"
"Rena! Look!"
Kuroi pointed to a blonde haired male wearing what seems to be a toga. I glared. 'Afuro Terumi from Zeus Jr. High...' I thought angrily. I am still not forgiving him for sending my brother to the hospital.
We just ignored him and continued on practicing. Me and Kuroi weren't listening to what he was saying. I didn't have to listen to his or the guys' saying either. I already had the information I need, but enough so we can stop them.
After he was done talking to Endou and the others, I saw him glance our way, smirking. "Sakuma Rena and Genda Kuroi. The substitutes from Teikoku Gakuen." He said.
"Ignore him, he's trying to mess up our mojo." Kuroi said, looking away from him.
"Even if it isn't messed up, you won't be able to play anyway." Afuro mocked.
"Do you hear something?" I asked. "I'm pretty sure I was hearing Kidou and the others and not an invisible being." I mocked back.
"Well, mere humans like you are ignorant, after all. Hernandez was right about you both," Afuro started, going near us.
"The both of you are useless."
"You take that back!" Kuroi was about to punch him, but I stopped him. If something happened to this guy, we wouldn't participate, and Zeus would win my default. I hated him, but I hated not playing soccer more.
"Leave, Aphrodi." I said. "You barked up at the wrong tree. Urgh I'm going home."
I grabbed my towel and started walking away, but I was at the goalpost when I heard those familiar words.
"Darkrai's Possession!"
"Rena/Sakuma/Sakuma-san!"
I dodged it.
And it was a close save too.
My dad said that if it was an unexpected shot, don't catch it, but dodge it. It would be easier if you did that. I looked back and glared at him. Of course Nina had to teach him that move. Now, I really, really hate her than before now.
"Leave. Now." I said.
He didn't listen to me and faced Endou and the others again. A challenge was a challenge, because Endou had decided to see Afuro's abilities. One moment he kicked the ball up in the air, the next thing you know, he already kicked it into Endou's unsuspecting stomach.
Me and Kuroi ran up to him. For a moment, he was unconscious, then regained consciousness and challenged Afuro again. Man, he was angry, and I mean it.
"Hmm, I'm telling you, forfeit the match." Afuro mocked before walking away. Not without a fight he ain't.
"Nereus Stream!"
He caught it with ease. I growled. Nereus Stream was a water hissatsu that had similar movements to an eel. It would have been better if I had used a more painful technique on him. Too bad I have my dignity.
"Heh, a fighter you are," Afuro started. "But don't waste your breath."
--------------------------------------------------------------
"CURSE THAT AFURO TERUMI!!!"
"Honey, you'll break the post, again." My mother reminded.
"I just---- I wanted to strangle him so bad right now!" I shouted.
"Rena, just calm down." My cousin Lovino, who came from Italy with my other cousin, which was his twin brother, Feliciano, said while giving me the stink-eye.
"I want to beat him to the ground at the finals!" I said, punching the post again.
"Sakuma Rena, take a time out in your room." My mom commanded.
Once I was in my room, I was greeted by Feliciano. Italians were good at soccer, so I asked for advice.
"Well, you've seen him a-twice," He started. "Maybe find a technique that could-a work against -a-him."
"Ughh.... every technique will be blocked." I said.
"Then make your own!" Feliciano exclaimed.
"Feli, I can't. The last time I tried, I ended up falling into a ditch." I said.
"Oh. That's-a too bad." Feliciano sighed. "Well then, try-a practicing!"
"Feliciano." I gave him a poker face.
"You got me, but the best advice I can a-giva you, is to find a way to stop a-this Kageyama man and win-a the Nationals." Feliciano said.
But how...?
