Episode 24: Letting It Out
"Sakuma-san, it could be a trap!" Kino warned.
"Trap or not, no one messes with my friends!" I shouted.
"But, Sakuma!" Otonashi persuaded.
All of us were running to Teikoku. Nina had taken this too far. No one, and I mean no one, messes with the people close to me, no matter how annoying they are.
Once we arrived, I already ran inside, but Endou had stopped me from going into the soccer field. "Sakuma, we know that Kuroi's been threatened, but keep calm about this." He said. I slapped his hand off my shoulder. "No one, messes with my friends, Endou! I lost enough!" I shouted, running into the field. There, I saw Nina, holding a tied up Kuroi.
"Looks like you actually showed up, Sakuma Rena." Nina smirked and tossed Kuroi to the ground.
"You've gone too far, Hernandez!" I shouted furiously.
"No, you have! I've been transferred because of you!" Nina retorted.
"That's your own fault! You attacked me!" I shot back.
"You kicked me back in first grade, and slapped me three times this year!"
"You worked with Kageyama and used steel panes to kill us, and strangled me!"
"I can always do it again!"
"Bring it on, Nina!"
Nina charged at me, but I grabbed her arm and twisted it and tossed her to the ground. By the time she was about to stand up, Handa and Matsuno had already held her back while Endou was untying Kuroi from his ropes and helping him stand up.
"No struggling for you, blondie!" Someoka shouted.
Nina had stopped struggling, but she was giving me a long, cold, glare at me. Then started chuckling.
"What's so funny?" Kidou asked.
"Oh nothing. It's just," She started laughing. "I can't believe you don't know what she's up against."
"I'm up against an idiot who made me into a person with replacement problems." I said.
"Oh, I'm not alone." Nina chuckled darkly. "Another person has it out for you, and once his plan works, he'll force you to work for him."
"Fat chance that I'm letting my friend go back into the dark side of her life!" Kuroi shouted.
Nina laughed again. "You guys are so going to quit soccer after this."
"We're not quitting!" Endou said, clenching his fist.
"Yeah! What makes you think we would?!" Ichinose asked furiously.
"With Rena, you'll be in danger. Copying techniques in an instant is something that every soccer player wants. Someone will try to kidnap you, torture you, or even threaten you, just so they can get Rena." Nina explained, already getting out of Handa and Matsuno's hold.
"What are you bringing up, Nina?" I asked, glaring at her.
"Easy! Besides... remember that incident where a mysterious dark shoot was made?" She gave a sinister look at me. "The one that was supposed to hit you, but because someone was concerned for you, that someone got the blow and was sent to the hospital for 3 weeks."
Then it hit me. That shot.... one of the other reasons why I changed, is because of that shot; Darkrai's Possession... that shot hurt my friend, and thanks to me, everyone in my elementary's school soccer team banned me from playing ever again....
"I-It wasn't my fault!" I defended.
"Don't deny it, Rena." She smirked. "Every accident that belongs to you, someone else will be the one to take the blow. Besides, because you decided to transfer to Raimon, everyone almost got killed by the steel panes."
"Stop talking!" I shouted.
"I'm through with this. Remember, everything that happens is your fault. Not mine, not theirs, but yours." Nina cackled like an evil witch and walked out of the field.
"Rena! Go after her! You won't let it--- Rena?"
"I-I... I-I have to leave...." I said, backing away from them. "Don't look for me, or don't follow me."
"Wait! Rena, what is Nina referring to?!" Endou asked.
"Just back away!"
"Sakuma/Sakuma-san/Rena!"
I ignored their calls and just ran out of the field, and ran out of Teikoku, and started running to who knows where, just so no one can find me.
**********************************************************
I hid myself behind a wall in an alleyway that led to the city of Cho-Tokyo. I would have run to my cousin's place, but my mom would've found me, and ground me for leaving the town with no adult supervision or help from any of my teammates.
"Rena? What are you doing here in an alleyway?"
I looked up and saw my dad. Bad timing.
"Your teammates went to the house, thinking that you'd run back home." He sat down next to me. "What happened?"
I sighed. "Hernandez." I said.
"Nina? I thought her father had her under control this time..." I heard my dad mutter.
"I hate her. She already made my life miserable as it is..." I said. Whoops, I slipped it out.
"Wait, is she the reason why you decided on copying techniques and changing your personality?" My dad gave me the look that said, 'I-can't-believe-you-didn't-tell-anything-to-us'. I gulped.
"Well now, you're going to have to explain it to them." My dad said.
"Kuroi already did." I said.
"The other thing?" He looked at me. I groaned.
"Fine... where are they?" I asked.
"Your mother let them in the house. Although by now, some of them had already gotten home." My dad stood up and helped me up.
"Wait, where did mom go?" I asked.
"Teikoku. Said she needed to grab something." My dad shrugged.
-----------------------------------------------------
The both of us arrived at the house, and we saw Endou, Kidou, Shuuya, Kazemaru, Kino, Otonashi, and Kuroi sitting on the couch.
"G-Guys?" I looked at them, and Kuroi just ran up to me, and hugged me, again.
"We looked everywhere, Rena! You had us worried!" He said.
"Genda Kuroi, you're in front of me." My dad said, clearing his throat.
"Sakuma, what did Nina mean by a shoot that was supposed to hit you, but someone else got hit?" Endou asked as I was sitting down on the couch. I looked down and sighed. "Remember when I told you that you reminded me of a friend I had?" I asked. "Yeah, what about him?" Kazemaru asked. "And what was the shoot, Darkrai's Possession?" Kidou asked.
"D-Darkrai's Possession?!" I heard my dad drop his coffee mug.
"Is there something wrong about it?" Otonashi asked.
I sighed. "That shoot... it makes the opponent go into three stages; Shock, Fear, and Breakdown." I explained. "If you encounter it more than once, possibly three times, the stages will increase. First, Shock. If it's the first time you've seen the shoot, you won't be able to catch it because of the shock. Second, Fear. Because you've already encountered it, you'll start to shake with fear. Even if you try to defend the goal, your fear will just make it more powerful enough to score in anyway..."
"What about Breakdown?" Kino asked.
"When the player uses that move, the opponent will see an illusion of his fear, and will start to have a mental breakdown."
All of us turned to my dad. "Dad? You know this?"
"Know it? Your grandfather invented it." My dad said with a serious tone of anger and regret. "Whoever that person used it on, that person wants you gone."
"I think that's not possible." Kazemaru said.
"What are you saying?" Kuroi asked.
"Remember Akari? She said to Nina, 'I thought she would still be down!'." Kazemaru pointed out. True. I heard her say it as well.
"You mean... they're trying to break her emotions?!" Kuroi looked at him.
"Considering that you said that Nina had replaced her." Shuuya said.
"Please," I looked at Shuuya. I still hated that word.
"Well then, I see that now I know what her true intentions are. I'm talking to her father, and I'm sure this will be the last time that all of you will be seeing Nina." My dad declared.
"Wait, I haven't gotten the slightest idea." Kidou said.
"Urgh. I forgot." Kuroi groaned and started explaining to him, then looked at me with a surprised expression. "Sakuma..."
"Don't, say it." I said, giving him a small smile.
"You're like Endou-kun," Kino started. "Smiling even though everything has been hard."
"Rena,"
We saw my mom coming down the stairs, wearing a perplexed look on her face, then sighed. "Why didn't you say anything before? We would've done something."
"I figured, it wasn't a big deal, so I never bothered..." I said.
"It's a big deal!" Kuroi exclaimed. "Your brother told me everything, and thanks to her, you became a completely different person! But she's gone now! And thanks to Raimon, you're back to normal!"
He... he's right.
"Guys...." I couldn't help tearing up again. Man these guys were making me cry now.
"It's fine to let it out, Sakuma-san." Otonashi said.
"Rena." I wiped the tears off my face. "Just call me Rena instead."
"Then goodbye cold persona, and hello real persona!"
"Stop hugging my daughter."
