Episode 20: Break The Infinite Wall!

"K-Kidou Yuuto?!"

"EH?! Our ex-captain is here?!" Kuroi looked at me. I did not expect a visit from him! Wait, in tournament rules, if a student transfers right before the match, he'll be considered as a team member. So, Kidou transferred to Raimon to become one of the members?!

"Kidou, I don't mean to be rude here," Kuroi started. "But, what the heck are you doing here?!"

"I won't pull back for what they've done." Kidou said. I believe he was referring to Zeus Jr. I went over to him...

And gave him a flick on the forehead, twice.

"What. Was that for?" He asked me.

"For being late, and for not telling me and Kuroi at least." I crossed my arms.

All of us had got on the pitch. Shishido and Handa were benched. Leaving Kidou is Shishido's position and Kuroi in Handa's. Ok, I'm getting nervous... but Kidou is the game maker... but everyone else isn't quite comfortable with this...

The kickoff started. Everyone's passes weren't connecting at all, and Senbayama already scored a point. Ah geez... they still haven't found out yet? Not like they would notice it sooner.

Soon the kickoff started again. Thanks to Kidou's commands, their passes were starting to connect. "Now that's a game maker." I heard my mom said.

Matsuno had passed it to Someoka, and he used Dragon Crash, but it was stopped by the goalkeeper, using Makiwari Chop. Dang. And we were getting a little closer to scoring. "Almost... I should've read the data more..."

"Rena, I think it's best if you just keep watching, instead of murmuring to yourself..." Otonashi said, sweat dropping.

Kazemaru had passed the ball to Matsuno, but was stopped by three defenders using "Kagome, Kagome". Again, we were almost there to the first score. Soon the first half ended with Senbayama in the lead with 1-0.

I didn't need to see the infinite wall. I knew about it anyway. I tried copying it once, but it was my first fail and I ended up hitting my head in the grass.

"Guys, cheer up!" Endou encouraged. "We haven't lost yet!"

"Yeah, we'll catch up!" Kuroi encouraged as well.

"Let's go with Someoka as the 1-top formation lead for the second half." Kidou said.

"1-top?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"It's true that the Infinite Wall is tough, but it has a weakness." Kidou said.

"A weakness?" Kazemaru asked.

"Oh. I get it. Since Infinite Wall is a combination play involving three people, Someoka can pretend that he's attacking one of the defenders, by making one of them go separate from each other, so they won't be able to use Infinite Wall." I said.

"How are you reading my mind?" Kidou looked at me.

"Uh... quick guess?" I said, scratching the back of my neck.

"Hold on," Kuroi started, but was cut off by Handa. "Are you sure we should be pushing Gouenji back? That's not our soccer! Gouenji and Someoka are our 2-top. That's our soccer!"

Everyone looked at each other. "That's true, but..." Kurimatsu muttered.

This is bad. Real bad.

"You don't understand." Kidou suddenly said.

"Yikes..." My mom muttered.

"This is the Football Frontier, got it?" Kidou said that with a stern and serious look on his face. It sorta creeps me out, way worse than Gojou's smile...

"It's the tournament for every team in the nation to test their competitive strength. And you're standing on the field for it right now. It's not the time to be playing happy-go-lucky soccer. You're in the Nationals level!"

And at that point, I had regretted flicking him on the forehead. In other terms, he was right. We're on the pitch to compete our strength.

Everyone gave concerned looks at each other, then Shuuya looked at Someoka. "I'm counting on you."

"Gouenji!" Handa looked at him.

"Trust in, Kidou, Handa." Kuroi said.

"Let's try it. Maybe it'll work." Endou said.

Handa gave a resentful look at him before he agreed. Soon the second half started with Senbayama's kickoff. A forward ran ahead and a defender ran up with the ball in his possession. When he was going to pass to the forward Kidou had intercepted it. Someoka then ran up, and the defender used for the Infinite Wall was chasing after him.

"They fell for it!" I exclaimed.

Kidou had passed it to Shuuya, and he and Kabeyama were running up to do the Inazuma Drop. Unfortunately, the defender that was chasing Someoka immediately got back to his position, and he and the other defender did Infinite Wall.

Kazemaru and Shuuya did Honoo No Kazamidori, only to get blocked by Infinite Wall again. When Shuuya and Endou did Inazuma One, the same result happened. I gritted my teeth. How strong was that wall?! An iron defense can just---

Wait. That's it!

"Kuroi! Use it when they shoot the first score!" I shouted.

Then the game started again. The ball was with Someoka, who passed it to Kuroi, who then passed it to Kidou. Three defenders were doing the formation for "Kagome, Kagome." Then Endou had run up front, and Kidou kicked the ball at him with a purple like aura surrounding it. He, Endou, and Shuuya kicked the ball straight into the goal with yellow and purple like lightning sparks surrounding it. The defenders from Senbayama used Infinite Wall again, but this time, it broke and we won our point.

"To break through the Infinite Wall..." Megane fixed up his glasses.

"I call it Inazuma Break." My mom said.

I saw Megane crack a little, but I rolled my eyes and laughed at him a little.

Soon the ball was passed again and again, but a mispass from Senbayama landed Kuroi the ball. He ran straight to the goal.

"Comet Strike!"

Kurou kicked the ball with a fiery aura surrounding it, and Senbayama's goalkeeper couldn't catch it. Good thing though, because the second half already ended, and we won by 2-1.

"Awesome, Kuroi!" I gave him a high-five.

"Haha! So, can I take your place now?" He asked.

"Yeah... you did that on your own again. The shoot was supposed to be Space Kick, but Comet Strike is good too." I said.

"E-Eh?!"

"We won, didn't we?!" I heard Shishido ask excitedly at Endou.

Everyone else had celebrated the victory of winning, and breaking Senbayama's record of the Infinite Wall.

**********************************************

"Again, I'm going to the hospital soon."

Kidou and Shuuya didn't bother listening to me. Shuuya had invited Kidou and I to the Inazuma Plaza. I declined, but Kidou had forced me by pulling my ear. Yep. I really regretted flicking him on the forehead.

"Ayy! Kidou! It hurts!"

"That's what you get for flicking me."

We arrived at the Inazuma Plaza, and the first thing we see was Endou getting hit by a tire that was tied to a tree.

"Endou?" Kidou looked at him suspiciously as I removed his hand from my ear, rubbing it.

"I knew you were here." Shuuya said.

"Kidou, Gouenji, Sakuma?" He looked at us.

The three of us had to help him stand up and remove the tire from his back. Kidou and Endou sat on the bench while me and Shuuya were looking at the view. I have to admit, the view is pretty nice up here. Also, I haven't really been here, considering I don't really take long routes home.

"Do you do that training often?" I heard Kidou ask Endou.

"Yeah! That's the best thing to train my goalkeeper skills." Endou said, putting a hand on his arm. "Besides, I let a goal through today. I need to power myself up more."

"It wasn't your fault though, that shoot was a cheat." I muttered.

"But moderate yourself at least." Kidou mumbled. "No one likes it if you get injured before a match."

"It's fine. I'm always doing this." Endou reassured. Oh, so he lets himself get hit by a tire daily? Then again, my dad did train with a couple of bulls when he was trying out for goalkeeping. And... well, it worked, but it sorta scarred him for life a little.

"Always?" Kidou looked at him.

Endou looked up. "I want to be a goalkeeper like my grandpa someday."

"So your starting point was when you were born was Endou Mamoru?" Kidou asked again.

"But I was sure surprised!" Endou exclaimed. "When you suddenly showed up on the field, I never even imagined that you would come to us!"

Now that Endou mentioned it, I never imagined him either.

"Sorry for surprising you." Kidou said.

"But, I'm glad. I've always been thinking that it'd be fun if I could play with you. Ever since I caught your first kick." Endou said.

I remembered that day. First match with Raimon. I disguised myself as my brother just to get into the match. It worked, but Kageyama had found out so he kept his eye on me.

"I thought about the other people who caught that awesome kick. And your game strategizing abilities..."

"But you can't win that with soccer alone." I mumbled.

"She's right." Kidou looked at me.

He stood up and looked at the view. "When I think about it, it might have been back then. When I thought that there could be a different soccer."

"Different soccer?" Endou asked.

"Yeah. Even now, I don't know exactly what that is. But after playing with you guys today, I thought..."

"You already found out, Yuuto-kun." I flicked his forehead again.

"Will you refrain from doing that?" A small irk appeared on his head.

"Nope. Well, your not a captain anymore, so there." I chuckled mischievously.

"Jirou never explained that side of you." He said.

"That's not her side," Shuuya started. "That's her real self."

"Oh, Endou. I'm gonna be absent from school tomorrow." I said.

"Eh? How come?" Endou looked at me.

"It's... a soccer matter. And also a friend's matter." I said, glancing at the view.

Then I felt a tug on my ear. "Ow! Yuuto! That hurts!"

"That's what you get for flicking him." Shuuya stiffled a laugh.

"Not funny, Shuuya!"

"Right... what relation do you have with Gouenji?" Endou asked.

"Friend of mine. When we were kids." I said. "Yuuto! Let go of my ear!"

"Stop flicking me."

"Alright, alright!"
