Episode 19: Past To The Present

Me: Play the audio when Kuroi starts telling about his parents.

"Yamato! You guys are here too?"

When we arrived at the stadium, we saw Yamato and the others. Dad was sitting a little below us, since he was one of the spectators. Me and Kuroi sat with Yamato and the others. The only ones that were with him was Taichi, Tsuki, Sora, and a boy with blue hair.

"Uh, who's he?" I asked.

"Ah, this is Kidou Jyou, Kidou's cousin." Taichi said.

"Nice meeting you, Jyou." I said.

"Same here, Sakuma-san." Jyou and I shook hands.

Anyway, back to the match. I had managed to get the all of the players' data, and I had it printed out after dinner last night. I looked at the list again.

1. Posei Donichi (Goalkeeper)
2. Aporo Hikaru (Defender)
3. Hepai En (Defender)
4. Aresu Ran (Defender)
5. Deio Geki (Defender)
6. Arute Saneki (Midfielder)
7. Herume Matsuaki (Midfielder)
8. Atena Tomo (Midfielder)
9. Demete Yukata (Forward)
10. Afuro Terumi (Midfielder/Captain)

11. Hera Tadashi (Forward)
12. Ika Michiyukai (Goalkeeper)
13. Aki Tamamatsu (Forward)
14. Heraku Resu (Defender)
15. Kuruno Tokio (Defender)
16. Medo Usa (Midfielder)

I was getting scared now. Some of the players weren't even there, and what's worse is what continues below the list.

Unknown School.
Had admission by coach
Unmarked Team
Believed to have god like powers

I don't even believe it for one minute... how was this possible anyway? God like powers? Unless they had something to make them have the powers, then I would believe them.

The whistle blew at Zeus' kickoff. Afuro kicked the ball hard at Jirou.

"HEY YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!" I shouted. Everyone at the stadium was looking at me, but I didn't care.

The play just went on and on... everyone was getting brutally hurt. Koujirou couldn't stop the balls in time because Afuro was too fast Oono and Narukami's defense didn't work either. Death Zone and Hyakuretsu Shot weren't scoring in either. They couldn't do Emperor Penguin #2 because Kidou was still injured. Sakiyama and Henmi had already gotten injured and fell to the ground.

It split seconds, everyone was on the ground...

The goalpost had crashed into the stadium wall because of Afuro's last shoot...

Everyone was brutally injured...

"Rena!" I jumped down from where I was and ran over to Jirou, my dad trailing behind me.

"Oi! Jirou! Get up! You still have the second half!" I was shaking him. He was still breathing, but he wasn't waking up. "Jirou! Sakuma Jirou! Wake up!"

I found my eyes water again. No. I can't cry. I can't cry now. It's the National Tournament! I can't cry!

"Jirou! Oi! Jirou!!!"

Zeus had won by default. They didn't deserve to win. They deserve, to be disqualified... they can't have done this... they will pay for this...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone was sent to the hospital due to severe injuries. Kuroi had went on to the hospital to visit Koujirou, and Yamato and the others decided to visit the other Teikoku members. My dad took me home.

Once we arrived, I sat on the couch, my eyes watery.

"Rena,"

My dad sat next to me. "Rena, it's alright. I talked to the doctor on the phone once they had gotten your brother a room. He'll be alright...." He patted my back.

How can he be sure? Jirou... Koujirou... and the rest of Teikoku... they still accepted me even though I transferred... is... was this my fault? If I hadn't transferred.... then we might have won... but then again, they would just bench me again, and by the time I was ready to go in, it would be the same result....

"I'll get back at them." I muttered. "They'll be sorry..."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey."

"Hey..."

I had taken at least 3 days away from school. Endou, Coach Hibiki, and my mom allowed me. I thanked them though; To be honest, I didn't want to be absent, but Jirou was more important.

"Rena, what's wrong? You're usually bright." Koujirou said.

"I-I saw the match..." I said, looking down.

"Humiliating... but, they were powerful." Jirou said.

"I'll get back at them." I said.

"Huh?" They both looked at me.

"I'll get back at them. They'll be sorry." I said again.

"Rena, you don't know what you're dealing with." Koujirou said.

"I don't care who I'm dealing with!" I raised my voice. "They will pay for what they did to you! I swear, I'll get back at them, and even though I'm in Raimon, I will bring Teikoku's pride again!"

They looked at me, and then nodded. "Rena, I know you won't listen to us, but even so... here. Koujirou and I chipped in to buy you this."

Jirou handed me a paper bag. Inside, was a bracelet. It was a charm bracelet. It had a lightning bolt, a soccer ball, a heart, and the letters, K, A, and J.

"I saw you looking at it once." Jirou said. "It's for good luck."

"You and Kuroi, along with Endou, can beat them." Koujirou said.

"You guys..."

"Win for us, alright?" Jirou said.

"Yeah. We'll win." I smiled.

To: Sakuma Rena
From: Genda Kuroi

Let's meet up at Kidou's place. Someone from Teikoku could help him come into his senses. I'll explain everything when we meet.

I was already at the gates. 2 days passed, and I haven't been into school yet. I had visited Narukami and the others as well. The day after tomorrow, I would be training again with the others.

When I arrived, Kuroi was there. Kidou's dad wasn't home, so we knocked on the door twice, and then went in. We went to his room. Kuroi knocked three times until Kidou had finally opened the door.

Endou was there as well, sitting down on the couch.

"You didn't tell me that Endou was here too, Kuroi." I glared at him.

Kuroi shrugged at me. "I didn't know either. So, don't look at me."

Kidou had explained everything to them. I didn't though; I knew what happened because he told me before the district finals. Although, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him... He lost his parents at a young age... I wouldn't be surprised if he's still upset about it.

I heard Kuroi sigh. "You and I are the same."

"Pardon?" Kidou looked at him.

"Right... Kuroi's last name isn't Genda." I said.

"Eh?" Endou looked at Kuroi, then at me. "So what is his last name?"

"Matsumoto." Kuroi said. "My real name is Matsumoto."

The room fell silent for a moment, then Kuroi spoke up again.

"I lost my parents, right before my eyes, when I was five..." He looked down, holding both of his hands. "All of us were going out to watch a soccer game that was near Teikoku... My mom and dad were really excite about it... then one day..."

I saw that his eyes were flowing with tears. I could tell that it was an ugly sight.

"A man... a tall man with a dark skin complexion, ordered to kill my parents. He had a henchman, a little shorter than him, commanded three gunmen to kill them.... they killed my mom first... Me and dad tried to make a run for it, but in the end, he got killed as well.... I managed to hide in a nearby bush and stayed there for god knows how long...."

At this point, he was sniffing and shaking a little. Tears were dripping down his face.

"But it wouldn't leave my mind.... I kept blaming myself for it, because all I just did was hide.... I don't deserve to be a Matsumoto..."

Kuroi was crying. For years, I thought his parents had abandoned him, and now that he told everything, I had been mistaken. All this time, hiding behind that happy grin and enthusiastic personality, was actually a broken soul....

"Kuroi I---" I glanced at Endou and Kidou "We, didn't know..."

Kuroi wiped the tears away with his jacket sleeve, then looked at us. "It's fine."

Endou patted Kuroi on the back, and Kidou gave a wry smile. "You have a family now. Genda's parents are taking good care of you."

"Yeah... Koujirou-nii and his parents were really nice to me...." Kuroi smiled lightly.

"Kuroi, we're here for you, alright?" I sat down next to him, giving him a pat on the shoulder.

"You're not alone anymore!" Endou exclaimed. "You have your brother, and you have us, your friends!"

"Endou's right." Kidou patted him on the shoulder.

"You guys..." Kuroi sniffed and looked at the three of us.

I sighed, shook my head, and smiled. "Just hug it out, Kuroi."

Kuroi hugged me, and I hugged him back. Endou joined in the hug was well, and Kidou just gave a light laugh at us.

But now... I have to find out the man who killed Kuroi's parents...

------------------------------------------------------------------

"Senbayama Jr.?"

Endou had explained to everyone that we were up against a team that studied in the mountains. I'm guessing they took it easy.

"They have an iron wall defense known as 'The Infinite Wall'," Otonashi said. "No one's managed to score a point against them to date."

"Eh? Not even before the Nationals?" Kino asked.

"None." Otonashi concluded.

"I've heard about them too." I said. "They're weak at shooting, but their defense is really tight."

"How tight?" Asuka asked.

"Etto... kinda like an iron, I guess." I said.

"Then all we have to do is break down that iron 'Infinite Wall' defense!" Endou exclaimed.

"Break it, he says..." Kabeyama muttered.

"That's easier said than done..." Shourinji said. "It's because it can't be broken down that it's called an iron wall, right?"

Everyone nodded in agreement. Me, Kazemaru, and Kuroi sweat dropped while Shuuya was holding a laugh.

"Oh! Iron is weak against diamonds, right? So we'll have a diamond attack!" Kuroi exclaimed.

"Uh, my parents, or their teammates, did not have any diamond related attacks." I said.

"They didn't? Well that's too bad..." Handa sighed.

"Well, good luck with training." I stood up and grabbed my bag.

"Eh? Where are you going?" Endou asked.

"Somewhere I can train without the aura." I said before leaving.

***************************************************************

"Don't you think your team isn't looking for you right now?"

I shook my head at Taichi. "Nah. Besides, Endou did allow me, and I missed training here."

Training at the National Youth Soccer field sure brings back some good memories. I wanted to train with the persons I've been friends with for at least a year.

"How come you're not training with your team?" Allen asked me.

"How can I? They don't know if they've improved or not." I said, taking off my shirt. I'm glad I always where an undershirt underneath my jersey, so if I'm sweaty, I'll just take my shirt off.

"You mean the extent of their abilities?" Jyou asked. Jyou had joined in the team as a male manager and an assistant strategist. I didn't know Kidou had a cousin like him... they should meet sometime if Kidou doesn't know he has a cousin.

"Yep." I replied.

"Well, tomorrow, we'll be watching the match." Yamato said. "Your ability did hit a little. Was Zanzou that easy?"

"Yeah. The longest one I had to learn was Hyakuretsu Shot." I chuckled.

"Anyway, good luck! Oh, and make sure to break their iron wall!" Mimi said.

"Thanks you guys." I gave them high fives and fistbumps.

-----------------------------------------------------------

"Coach, everyone's had enough waiting." Kazemaru said.

I glanced at my mom, and she said, "Don't look at me Rena. I don't know who are we waiting for either."

"Well, who are we waiting for, coach?" Kuroi asked.

"Listen, according to the tournament rules, if you don't enter the field in three minutes, I'll consider it your forfeit." The referee said.

"Hibiki-san." My mom looked at him worriedly. "Who are we waiting for anyway? Heigorou-san's in the toilet, but aside from him, who else?"

I heard footsteps from behind. As I turned around, my eyes widened.

"K-Kidou Yuuto?!"
