7) How to Get Your Man Back

After looking into this subject with the help of Google I can confirm that it is rediculous how many romance tutorials there are (especially for getting you ex back) It's very worrying.

7) How to Get Your Man Back

Step 1: Be honest with yourself. Were you actually together before or was it just a figment of your imagination?

Step 2: Be prepared for rejection so don't get your hopes up. Have money in your bag so you can drown your sorrow in fat-free ice cream

Step 3: Make sure he is still living in the same house so you can turn up there with your phone speaker playing your couple song or a random song you found on Spotify. It is important that your phone is fully charged as you may be sitting outside the window all night

Step 4: Find his window and throw pebbles to get his attention. If he is not home, write a note, stick it on a rock and throw it through his window (don't put your name in case you accidentally smash the window and they can't link it back to you.)

I stare questionably at the screenshot I took from a wikihow page. This is starting to make me rethink if I should be taking advice from the internet.

The street lights are the only thing that is keeping the front yard alight. The night sky is hidden behind dark clouds that have overtaken the stars. Keeping my umbrella at home seems like an amateur move now that the rumble of thunder taunts me.

There was a fault in the simple four-step plan. I have nothing around me to throw at the window beside a few scattered pieces of bark. Then again I didn't really think through this plan thoroughly enough to even consider if it would work.

"Staring at my window won't make it magically open." a hoarse voice says from beside me. The cool night is warmed up slightly by the radiating body heat. "How long have you been out here?"

I glance at up at Sam, hiding my flushed cheeks under my black hoodie "Depends. What's the time?"

He looks down at his fancy fitness watch "6:18."

"That doesn't really help as my phone went dead a long time ago. I should invest in one of them time telling devices you wear. It'll give me an excuse to look at my wrist and say 'look at the time I need to go'."

We stand there in silence before Sam speaks, "Were you planning on standing here all night. There is a perfectly good seat that you could be sitting on."

"But what is the fun in being comfortable plus how are your neighbours going to know when I leave? Oh look, they're checking if I've died from frostbite yet." I wave towards the window with the curtain slightly ajar. The two faces that were peering through quickly disappear back behind the red curtain.

I hold back a shiver as the wind picks up "I think your neighbours have a bet on how long I would last waiting there for you. They think I was stupid enough to think you were home and ignoring me. Well you can leave Carol and Jerry" I say raising my voice so to snoopy neighbours knew they were no longer needed. "I'm still alive. And look he did come. I'm not a crazy stalker!"

A quiet smile graces Sam's face as when he looks at me in sincerity making my heart faster. I need to remember to stick to the very loosely planned out strategy before I get completely distracted by his stupid smile.

"So" I start walking towards his door hoping he'll get the cue to follow me "What are you doing here?"

"This is my house. I live here," he jingles his keys before opening the front door and leaving me to walk in behind him.

Stuffing my hands in my hoddie I stare down at the floor scared to find him looking back at me. Also, I'm certain that my face has turned red from the chill in the air and embarrassment. "Oh, um you were the one that was supposed to ask me that question."

A warm hand tugs at mine, pulling me towards the lounge and sitting us down.

"So Mackenzie" the twinkle in his eyes makes him light up "What bring you here on this frosty night?"

"I'm here as a big romantic gesture," I say with confidence that I definitely don't have.

He raises an eyebrow as he settles further into the lounge "Really? And what is this big romantic gesture that you talk of?"

"See. I didn't really plan this far ahead. I would have been here early this morning but apparently, the late night smoothie place does eventually close and wouldn't let me use their internet."

Rubbing my hands together only slightly calms down the nerves that are shooting around me. "And I may have also fallen asleep as soon as I got home and woken up with time to make a proper plan and apology. So while our teacher was trying to fix his computer and projector Casey and I did some extensive research that really didn't help one bit. The class had some great input."

When I meet Sam's gaze I feel transparent and my rambling comes to a stop.

"Next time I suggest you use fewer words and actually get to the point."

"I'm here to say I'm sorry."

"For..."

"Um, Just a sec. I wrote a list. Ahh, it may be double-sided," I scramble for the piece of fold paper in my jeans.

I iron out the creases in the paper before reading, "For ignoring you and leaving without a real exclamation. For putting laxatives in your cookie when you were 7. For saying we were only friends last night when I want more. For any mental or physical damage, I may have inflicted on you." My eyes continue to flicker over the quickly choreographed letter that was written on the train ride home. It was a struggle to keep to the lines as the train ride was bumpy.

"Mackenzie."

I continue on after deciphering the next part "It has come to my attention that I have been avoiding 'us' for a while. Most chance because I have no clue how where to start. When I was on the plane home I was preparing myself to come back to a place where you were dating some super pretty and intelligent and well perfect for you. I was scared you had forgotten about me."

"Trust me. I could never forget about you. You've made an impression on me that will last forever," he rubs at the small scar on his wrist as if remembering a fond memory.

We both climbed a tree and I thought it would be a fun idea to scare him. Turns out that he was a complete scaredy cat and fell after I tapped him on the shoulder unexpectedly. What was also unexpected was him pulling me down into the bush as well. He came out with a small cut on his arm and I attained a deep gash down my thigh.

Instead of telling the truth about what happened back at school we both agreed that we were chased by a vicious bear and had to kill it with only a packet of floss and some blue tack . No one believed us as apparently the only type of bear in Australia was a Kola bear (which technically isn't even a bear).

I point to the non-existent scar that has 101 origin stories depending on who you ask "You 'promised you wouldn't bring up the tree incident. It isn't my fault you scare so easily and fell from that tree. You can barely see the scar. And have you seen-"

"Macey." Sam says my name in a whisper which stops me in my tracks. His cheeky grin infects me and I can't help but hold grin back.

"Yeah."

He tucks back a piece of loose hair that won't stay pinned up "Please stop talking," he starts to lean in for what I'm assuming is a lovingly sweet moment of embrace but I stop him I stop him with a firm on the shoulder.

I push him away slightly and scrunch my nose, "You smell and you're sweaty."

It's only now that I realize that he is in a short sleeved top and short. "That does seem to occur when you exercise. I went for a run to get some fresh air; it's good for the lungs"

My mouth falls open in disbelief, "You went jogging at night, voluntarily?"

Sam held back a laugh "Yes, I know it's crazy but some people enjoy physical activity." Taking my elbows he pulls me up so we're only in apart. I lose my breath when I stare into his eyes. "Wait here while I clean up then we can go out and get dinner."

Butterflies go off in my stomach at the thought of eating, oh and going out with Sam.

"Like now?" I ask sceptically. It's not that I don't want food but I'm not in the most appropriate attire for eating out. I look like a hobo in my cat hoodie, galaxy tights and mismatched socks.

"There is no better time than now. You have to live in the moment." He says like an excited puppy. How can he have this much energy after exercising?

I avoid looking straight at him as I know I'll instantly cave. Stupid good looking guys with beautiful hearts, why do you have to exist "I don't know, it isn't a part of the to-do list and after all the excessive research I've done I going on a spontaneous date can either be the best or worst decision of our lives."

He merely shrugs like it's no big deal "I guess we'll just have to see where this leads. It'll be fun." his reassuring smile is doing nothing for my nerves.

"It'll be fun. A bold choice for last words," I mutter under my breath before sighing in defeat knowing that we might as well have a go. "Okay let's go but can we make sure there are no candles. I haven't had the best experience with fire."

I don't want to have another incident where everything gets set on fire. I wonder if Jay is still alive.

Sam embraces me in a tight sweaty hug. Why does his sweat smell good? Oh great, now I'm smelling him. "Great! I'll call in a favour with one of my mates, get changed then we can eat until our hearts are content," he winks at me before walking towards his room to get changed.

Sitting on the couch seems like the most appropriate place to be seated as it is placed in front of the TV; the only problem is I can't find the remote. As I have not acquired the Wi-Fi password yet I can't use most of my app. That's why I always keep books stored on my phone. They are true life savers.

My ears pick Sam's voice in the background. I can't be ears dropping if he is talking super loudly right?

"Hey George, yeah good to hear from you. I know its super late notice but do you think you can get us a table tonight. Thanks man you're the best. Oh and before I forget can you make sure there are no candles near us. Haha. Yeah she's one of a kind. See you soon."

My cheeks flash after hearing his last comment. I have a feeling this date will be one of a kind as well.
