The drinks were on the table when he returned. She was looking through the window, out at the Falls.
"It really is beautiful, isn't it?"
.
"I love it here," he agreed, as he sat down.
"It is just such a calming place."
.
She looked back at him. In spite of herself, she smiled.
"Even with all the people?"
.
"You can easily get lost in a crowd here and I like that. I rarely, if ever, see anyone I know. Its a perfect getaway."
.
"You've been coming here for a long time?"
She turned back to face him again.
.
"Is that a question or statement?"
.
She started chewing her straw, but pulled it out and tossed it on the table, when she saw him looking at her.
They both laughed.
.
He continued. "My company does a lot of work with the Casinos and Hotels here. We developed most of their computer systems and security features. I am the one who trains them how to properly use them and we are constantly updating them as we develop new features."
.
She was impressed.
"So you know computers?"
.
He laughed.
"Just a little."
.
She sat forward.
"Well I have this issue with my Ipad."
.
"Shut it down, instead of just turning it off. Let it do its reboot and updates."
.
"How did you know that I never shut it down?"
Now she was impressed.
"You didn't get that from my body language."
.
He shook his head.
"It is the most common issue with the Ipad. People just basically put it to sleep."
.
She nodded. "I will do that. Thank you."
.
He took a mouthful of beer.
"You are welcome.
Sooooooo....
Now, its your turn."
.
She put her hair back over her ear.
He smiled at her.
"Don't say a thing."
.
He made a lip zipping motion.
.
She rolled her eyes.
"Anyyyyyywayyyyy ...," she exaggerated.
"I am in real estate. Well at least my father's company is."
.
"Yetman Realty and Investments."
.
She nodded.
"That's right. You are good at this."
.
He shook his head.
"Not really, I have dealt with your father before."
.
She looked puzzled.
"When?"
.
He thought for a moment.
"About seven years ago. We purchased a building in Halifax to relocate our company too."
.
She thought for a moment, but had no recollection.
She shook her head.
.
"The Harris building."
.
She sat back again in her chair.
"Rebel Computers?"
.
He nodded.
.
"You work for Rebel?"
.
Again he nodded.
.
She gave him a stern look.
"You promised. No one word answers."
.
He pointed to his glass.
"I was drinking my beer."
.
She stared at him.
.
"What?"
.
"Yes, Vickie, I work for Rebel as ....," she started his sentence for him.
.
He sat back in his chair laughing. In spite of himself, he really liked this woman.
"Yes, Vickie, I work for Rebel as their head of Management training and systems Training. I also help develop the programs and I am their Head of Sales."
.
Now she was really impressed.
.
"You sound like you own the company," she commented, nonchalantly.
.
He shrugged his shoulders and sipped his beer.
.
"You son of a bitch."
.
He looked startled.
"Now what did I do?"
.
"You own the company."
.
"I never said that."
.
She sat forward and stared into his eyes.
"I could read it in your body language. Your eyes looked down and you went directly to your beer."
.
He nodded. He was impressed.
"Very good."
.
"You mean I am right?"
.
Again, he nodded.
.
She thrust her arm into the air.
"Yessssssss. One for Vickie."
.
He took a deep breath. There was definitely something about this woman that was getting to him; apart from the obvious beauty and physical attraction. She had a wonderful attitude and what was becoming more evident, an amazing free spirit that was coming out piece by piece.
.
She noticed him looking at her. She blushed slightly.
"Did I embarrass you?"
.
"How?"
.
"Well, the whole arm in the air thing."
.
He shook his head.
"Not at all."
His voice was deep and gentle.
.
There was a moment of silence.
.
"Are you hungry?" she wondered, aloud.
.
He nodded.
"Matter of fact I am."
.
"They serve food here right?"
.
He looked toward the bar. Kevin was at their table in a minute.
"The lady would like some food."
.
"Would you like a menu?"
.
She looked at Dylan.
"What do you eat here?"
.
"I love finger food. You know, platter of wings and veggies and potato skins. Stuff like that."
.
She was nodding as he spoke.
"That is what I like. I love taco chips with melted cheese and hot peppers and hamburger meat."
.
Kevin was smiling.
"Why don't I get you an assortment?"
.
They both nodded.
.
"That was weird," she quipped.
.
"What was?"
.
"The food thing. We both like the same foods."
She was quickly wondering what else they might share in common.
.
He smiled. Another positive thing.
.
She looked at her drink, swishing it around in her hand, poking at the ice with her finger.
.
"Is there something wrong with your drink?"
.
She shook her head.
"Not really, I just lost my taste for it. I usually drink beer."
.
He got up, quickly and took her drink.
.
"What are you doing?"
.
"Getting you a beer."
.
"I could have done that."
.
He put his finger to his lip.
"Shhhh. Besides, I'm paying for it."
.
"No way," she argued.
It was too late. He was already at the bar.
