This Night

Up in Olympus: Percy (TLO) P.O.V

Percy stared at her for a while, he could tell she was nervous for she fiddled with her hair and tried not to make eye contact with him. He stepped fully inside the room and gently closed the wooden door behind him, "You are one for rules, Wise Girl, a guy and a girl can't be alone together in a room." He muttered, trying to find an excuse for her to leave, he honestly didn't feel like having another conversation like the one they had in the Throne Room or really any kind for that matter. Despite his bad mood, the room itself was incredible. He looked at the gleaming floor, it was glass, water and sea creatures dwelled underneath and as they passed each one bowed and greeted him like: Greetings, my Lord! or Good evening, my Lord. Though there was one weird fish with a German accent said as she passed: Guten Tag, my Lord!

His bed was king sized, the comforter was a rich midnight blue with a huge turquoise trident running vertically through the center. The frame was mahogany with tall bedposts that rose like coral, a flat screen TV sat at the foot of the bed which was convenient for relaxing purposes. The ceiling was a mist that mimicked the night sky yet still the water below glistened making diamond patterns dance on everything in the room.

Annabeth blushed but it was very hard to tell in the dim light, "Everyone is asleep and the rooms are sound proof, no one will see or hear. But Percy I need to talk to you."

Percy sighed, "Fine," He walked over to the bed, as he did so he had the constant sensation of falling because of how invisible the glass seemed. If he didn't know any better, he would say he was walking on water. Percy reached the bed and sat down opposite of her, "What do you need to talk about?"

"I had a dream--."

"We all have dreams."

Annabeth glared, "You know what type of dream I mean, stop being such a jerk."

"I'm not the one who thinks that their best friend would be the cause of their death!" Percy snarled.

"I'm not having this argument with you again, you know my reasoning is plausible!"

"WELL WHAT ABOUT ACTUALLY HAVING FAITH IN ME?" He snapped, jumping to his feet.

"PERCY SIT DOWN! I do but the Fates--."

"No you don't." He replied coldly. "If you did we wouldn't be having this conversation!"

"I'm here aren't I?"

"So?"

"If I didn't have faith in you wouldn't I still be staying away from you? Now can I please finish?"

Percy paused for a moment, then nodded before gradually sitting down and saying, "Go on."

"Anyway, I had a dream, I was in the Throne Room and the Fates appeared in front of me. They said in order to change the future we have to change the past. My death was never supposed to happen and only because of your temper it did. You didn't kill me but because of your temper I was put in that position that ended with my death." She frowned. "They wouldn't tell me the whole story though. In order to figure it all out they said we will have to talk to the Percy from the eldest time."

"So you're saying in order to bring you back, for your death never to happen I have to learn to control my temper?" Percy raised his eyebrow. "You're joking."

"Gaea tampered with the time period, you aren't supposed to be this angry and out of control. Which means she is having inside help. . .remember when we were twelve and at the diner where we met a certain Olympian? Made your temper shoot through the roof?" Annabeth implied.

Percy groaned, "Ares, why would he want to do that?"

"Think about it, Percy, what does he love most? And with the way things are going this could be the most gory and tragic of all time."

"Gods, war, he wants to promote the war, he would be in paradise."

"Exactly and Percy? Not to give you a big head but you are the most powerful demigod, at least brawn wise, we have and if they take you out then they might as well have free reign. They are already keeping the gods occupied with turning them on each other, you are Gaea's greatest pawn. She already got to your eldest self, you saw how jacked up he is. She knew your temper would kill people because of how powerful you are and since I'm your best friend. . ."

"She used me to kill you, she knew she couldn't reach you any other way when I was there with you and apparently I'm with you a lot." Percy felt his cheeks start to burn but cleared his throat and continued. "And the fact that its my fault added to the blow, it has obviously taken me out of the war completely."

Annabeth was blushing too, accept she was staring down at the comforter and her eyes were clouded, her mind seemed to elsewhere.

Percy bit his lip, "Are you sure it was the Fates?"

For a moment she didn't answer, but slowly she replied, "Positive."

"How in the world am I going to 'control' my temper? I can't help if I'm angry."

"That's a lie, mortals have used that excuse for forever, but its a lie. You have a choice, everyone has a choice."

"Annabeth, that's ridiculous!"

"No, Percy, you have a choice. It's called self control, you have a choice to stay angry, its your choice how long you are angry, you don't have to stay angry, you can get frustrated, irritated, whatever but you never have to stay angry. It is a choice, a responsibility, something mortals absolutely hate taking on. And I have faith in you that you can fix this."

"And how will we know when I have 'controlled' my temper? I mean this is extremely vague."

"I guess when I come back? I don't know, the Fates didn't say anything else about it."

Once again it was up to Percy to fix everything, granted it was his problem but he had enough problems to deal with already. He sighed, her words sounded ridiculous to him, but another thought occurred to him, "What about our war? With Kronos?"

"That occurred to me too, Percy, Gaea may be powerful but she can't control time. She has to be having help with that too."

"So we have two enemies on our hands, two wars combining into one."

Annabeth met his eyes for the first time since he had entered the room, worry overshadowed every other emotion, "Exactly."

"Gods, do you have a plan?"

"I always have a plan, Seaweed Brain." Annabeth smirked slightly, looking down once again.

Percy let out a small chuckle, as he stared at her he felt like despite how hopeless everything seemed everything would be alright. Now he was relaxing for the first time in a while, "What's the plan, Wise Girl?"

"Fight a good fight."

They both cracked up at that, wasn't much of a plan but it honestly was all they could do at the moment. After their laughing calmed down, Annabeth finally looked up at him. A small tear was trailing its way down her cheek but she was smiling at him though he could tell it was pained, "Percy, will you. . .will you honestly. . . can you, eh. . .will you try to control your temper t-to keep my death from ever happening?"

Percy watched as more tears fell silently down her face, he had only seen Annabeth scared a couple times before but now she was shaking and crying before him. She was afraid of death, afraid of dying for what they knew about her death was that it happened in Tartarus and there was no way that was painless in more ways than one. Before he knew what he was doing he slowly crawled over to her, the bed creaked as he did so and wrapped her into a hug, immediately she leaned into him and clung to his shirt. Despite what his mind was yelling at him, he held her closer, "Always."

Annabeth smiled in relief, relaxing into his warm embrace. She felt herself forgetting everything, the war, the fighting with Rachel before they came to Olympus, the struggles with her family, the battle in her heart between Luke and Percy, every single worry, stress worthy problem, everything faded into nothingness. She was just aware that Percy was here with her, holding her close and making all her problems disappear. His heart beat echoed in her ears, soothing her like a lullaby. She slowly released his shirt and wrapped her arms around his midsection. Her body pressed against his was a bitter sweet pleasure, in the back of her mind she knew they could never be, not with their parent's rivalry, but maybe for tonight. . .just tonight. She closed her eyes and rested her head against his chest as she felt him gently pull her into his lap. Annabeth sighed softly, she couldn't think properly, not like this, not with him.

They sat there for a moment, enjoying the time they had together with no worries or concerns. Their parent's rivalry even meant nothing to them, they were safe inside these walls, it was just them. But as they sat there, slowly realization came to them of what they were doing and where they were. Annabeth bit her lip and slowly started to pull away as Percy cleared his throat, embarrassed by his forward action, releasing her from the hug, "Eh, s-sorry."

Annabeth started to look up at him, opening her mouth to say something but as her eyes met his she realized how close they were, she took a sharp breath, "Oh, umm. . ."

They starred at each other, Percy's mind screamed at him to move away from her but his heart told him to do the very opposite. The more he starred at her the more the urge to kiss her became unbearable and the more irresistible she became, but they were in the middle of a war, they couldn't do this. A small voice whispered to him, We might die anyway what do you have to loose?

All the while they both were learning closer, her starling grey eyes met his own drawing him in closer, Oh gods, they couldn't do this. Percy closed his eyes and turned away, "Annabeth--."

"I know." She had turned away a second before he had, it seemed she had been thinking the same thing.

Percy turned slowly and looked at her, she had moved away from him and was once again staring down at the comforter though her whole face was crimson. He knew he was no better but before he could say anything Annabeth over at the fridge in the corner of the kitchen, "Hey, want some ice cream? To, you know, just get away from everything." But he knew she meant 'forget everything that just happened a few seconds ago.' She was trying to avoid everything that had happened and he was fine with that so he went along with it.

Percy frowned, "Uh, that wasn't there before. . ."

Annabeth chuckled softly, "The rooms accommodate you to whatever you need and or want, within reason of course."

"This is like a small apartment or a huge hotel room."

"We are at Olympus." Annabeth smirked and stood to walk toward the fridge but yelped and collapsed onto the floor, holding her leg. "Ugh, crap."

Percy jumped to his feet and helped her off the ground, "And you ask me to be more careful."

Annabeth rolled her eyes but a small smile was on her lips, "I am more careful than you."

He helped her onto the bed, Annabeth groaned in frustration, "I ripped open the wound again, I need to change the bandage." She said as she watched the color of crimson grow on her shorts where the cut dwelled, "Uh mind if I. . ."

She point toward the bathroom, slightly red, "And can you. . .eh."

"Yeah, I can help you." Percy turned a shade of red as well, but Annabeth shook her head turning even more red with the realization of what was running through his head.

"No, no I mean just help me to the bathroom so I can clean it and dress it again."

"Oh!" Percy turned scarlet, "Y-yeah that's what I was thinking." He smiled sheepishly and helped her limp over to the bathroom, "Just, um, tell me if you need anything."

Annabeth leaned heavily on counter, "Thank you, Seaweed Brain. . .you can close the door now."

"Oh! Sorry!" He quickly closed the door and rubbed the back of his neck. Percy stood there for a moment actually nursing the thought of cracking open the door but decided he wasn't twelve and walked away. . .hesitantly.

Minutes later Annabeth's voice came muffled through the door, "Hey Percy? Can you help me back to the bed?"

"Coming," Percy replied, "Hey, how did you get here anyway? And how did you walk away from the battle with your leg?"

"Well, after the battle I was far too angry to feel any sort of physical pain and as for me getting here? I had nectar and ambrosia to help heal me. For some reason they aren't working as well as they should, I'm already at my limit to the amount I can take. But I walked here with ease because I was healed enough."

Percy opened the door and nodded, he walked over to her and helped her limp back to the bed, "Do you need anything else?"

Annabeth bit her lip and put on a little sweet smile, "Can I have some ice cream?"

Percy laughed, "Yeah, I think I will have some too." He walked over to the fridge and as he did so he asked, "So what would you like? Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawbe--WHOA!"

He opened the door to the freezer on top of the fridge and cleared his throat, "Uh, cotton candy, raspberry and blackberry swirl, Bumbling honey, Mammoth Collection of Melons, Veiny Tiger's Blood, Dramatic Dragon Fruit, Peachy King. . .every flavor of the freaking world. . ."

Annabeth smiled ear to ear, "Peachy King please."

A shocked Percy gathered some bowls and spoons alone with the containers of Peachy King and a ice cream called Colossal Blueberry Blast. He scooped quite a good portion of the containers into the bowls and put them away. He walked over and gave her the bowl of Peachy King. It has been a while since both of them just relaxed and had fun, they talked for a while as they finished their ice cream. Later during the conversation Percy ended up sitting next to Annabeth, leaning against the head board, "No I think instead of watching the House of Hades on a screen, what if we used something like the Vive to make it more interesting."

Annabeth shook her head, "The fact that it is practically a horror movie as it is? Going into it as a virtual reality is too much."

"What? Scared, Wise Girl?" Percy smirked, setting down his empty ice cream bowl on the nightstand beside his side of the bed.

Annabeth raised her eyebrow and put her ice cream bowl down on the nightstand beside her side, "Excuse me, Seaweed Brain?"

"You heard me, you scared?" Percy smirked, there was a mischievous glint in his eye. He sat up and turned to where he could see her more clearly.

Annabeth scoffed, "In your dreams ."

She leaned challengingly toward him, cocking her head with a small smile tugging at her lips. Percy laughed, "Cocky are we now?"

"Like you aren't?" Annabeth laughed but slowly it faded away, "We are going to have to finish that movie, aren't we."

Percy shook his head, "Lets not think about that, tonight, this night is to get away from it all. Forget about everything, the war, the convergence, . . .our parents."

"I would love that." She said softly, but you could tell she still had a sense of worry and was stressing about the future.

"Here," Percy crawled over to the TV at the end of the bed, "How does a movie sound?"

Annabeth gasped and jumped over to where he was, "Oh! Lets see what movies there are!"

Percy laughed and smiled at her, "Careful, don't rip those bandages again."

"I made sure they wouldn't this time, don't worry Seaweed Brain I can take care of myself." She replied with a cocky smile. "So what do we have?"

"Well we have. . ." His smile faltered, "Oh dear gods."

Annabeth stared horrified, "The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Cure, Percy these are all our quests. Every last one and that includes," She pulled out a CD case, "The House of Hades."

"Do they expect us to watch all of these?"

"These are how the quests were supposed to go," She replied reading the back of the CD case, then reached down and picked up The Last Olympian.

"And then there is this."

Percy looked at the case in her hand, "That is the year we are in, that is for our time."

"I need to know how this ends, I need to know how things are supposed to be."

"Annabeth, that's not a good idea and you know it."

"Percy--."

"No, at least not alone."

Annabeth frowned, "Why?"

"Everyone from our time deserves to know as well and we, all of we deserves to know."

"Bu--Ugh, everyone is already watching the House of Hades though."

"Then at night we will watch The Last Olympian. The only reason why we are watching the House of Hades is because Thalia couldn't explain what in the world was going on in her time."

"True. . .well what should we watch tonight?"

"Why not The Lightning Thief? That's pretty tame."

Annabeth laughed, "Tame? When went into the Underworld."

"Well compared to the others?" Percy smirked.

"For once you have a point, Seaweed Brain."

"Hey!"

Annabeth chuckled and wacked his shoulder fondly, "Well, while you do that I will relax."

She crawled back to where she had been and reclined against the headboard. Percy put in the disc and followed her lead, taking his spot next to her. Eventually while they were watching the movie Annabeth drifted off to sleep, her head resting against his shoulder. Percy smirked sleepily but still turned a little pink, as he gazed at her he realize how beautiful his best friend was, Maybe the idea of us isn't so insane after all. Maybe after the war. . .

His eyelids began to feel heavy, the light of the TV screen was all that shown through the room. The lamp had gone off long ago for the room decided that the movie would be more effective if all the lights were off. Slowly Percy started to fall asleep, falling in and out of consciousness. The last thing he remembered was resting his head against Annabeth's and feeling the daughter of Athena rolling onto her side, hugging his arm before everything faded into oblivion.
