Daggers of the Tongue

A few hours later when the sun began to hide under the horizon and the moon rose to take its rule over the earth, everyone had left the Throne Room to go to their rooms. All of the Olympians had left to their chambers though both Poseidon (TLO) and Athena (TLO) had lingered as though debating if they should say something to their troubled children. But both left in time along with the rest of the demigods and even the four of the Seven until Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Thalia from The Last Olympian with their younger counterparts from the rest of the times remained. They all stood staring awkwardly at the monitor, Thalia (TLO) cleared her throat in order to break the ice, "Crazy right?"

The group mindlessly nodded, Annabeth (TLT) frowned as she studied the monitor and walked toward it. They around her watched her cautiously, Percy from her time stepped forward, "Uh, are you sure you should be doing that?" He asked as she slowly reached her hand toward the power button.

She rounded on him, "SHUT UP AND MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!" She snarled making them all jump.

Percy (TLT) was taken back by this, "Hey, listen about that whole thing, I mean, you aren't really. . .upset about that, are you?"

"Upset?" Annabeth repeated, "Why on earth would I be upset after I find out it is YOU, SOME FREAK, WHO CAUSES MY DEATH IN THE FUTURE!" She approached him, her stormy grey eyes ablaze and shoved him to the ground.

"UGH!" The air was forced out of Percy's lungs as his back hit the floor. Annabeth planted her foot on his chest and glared down at him.

"HEY!" Percy (TLO) barked, "KNOCK IT OFF!"

His younger self managed to remove Annabeth's foot that had been camped out on his chest and got to his feet. His temper boiled over, he growled and tried to charge the daughter of Athena but Percy (TLO) held him back, "ENOUGH!" He shouted as he did so.

"You're telling me to take that?" Percy (TLT) growled at his older self, but his counterpart shut him up quickly.

"This is ridiculous," Thalia (TLO) snapped, "You can't seriously be going at each other's throats because of this, we don't even know the whole story! Besides its up to the Fates who will die and who will live. They didn't have to cut Annabeth's lifeline and I doubt that the only way for Percy to live was for her to die, I mean come on. He's not that valuable."

"Thalia's right," Percy (TLO) said, eyeing his twelve year old self to make sure he didn't attempt to charge again. But then frowned and looked at Thalia, "Wait what?"

Thalia shrugged, "Its true."

Percy sighed and shook his head, "Anyway, this is ridiculous. And we don't even know it was Annabeth, right Annabeth?" He turned toward the Annabeth from his time expectantly.

She opened her mouth to agree but hesitated. Percy's (TLO) eyes widened, "You can't be serious."

"I'm sorry, Percy, but--."

"You can't seriously be agreeing to this, do you honestly think I would be the cause of your death? We don't even know it was you!"

Everyone starred at the pair, the tension was growing. Annabeth (TLO) shifted uncomfortably, "But the Fates clearly said--."

"The Fates aren't always right."

"Yes they are and you know it!" Annabeth glared at him, "And to answer your question: Yes, I do think you would be the cause of my death because of that fact! Besides its pretty obvious it's me who they were talking about."

"After EVERYTHING you think that I would actually cause your death? After everything! And we don't know, you sure have a high opinion of yourself." Percy's anger shot through the roof, he couldn't believe it.

Annabeth was no better, her grey eyes were dark and dangerous, "Well since you are a danger to yourself and everyone around you? Yes, for the second time, yes I think so! Unclog the seaweed from your ears! And excuse you!"

"You know? Maybe the Fates were right, now that you die in the future I will be free from an annoying know-it-all!" Percy snarled.

"HEY! Guys that's enough!" Thalia (TLO) hissed, but was merely ignored.

"Oh real mature!" Annabeth snapped, her face turning red from anger, "Why don't you go destroy something? That's what you're good at! That's all you do! At least I can build something permanent!"

"Oh I am so sorry I'm not apart of your perfectly built fantasy world. News flash, Wise Girl: Your parents will NEVER get back together and Luke can NEVER come back so STOP LIVING IN A FANTASY!"

As soon as the words left Percy's mouth everyone around him tensed and he knew he had just crossed the line. Annabeth slammed into him, throwing him backward much like his younger version had minutes before. As he hit the floor, Percy rolled out of the way of Annabeth's foot who seemed to be trying to almost imitate what had played out with their twelve year old selves.

"DON'T BRING LUKE INTO THIS!" She snarled.

He got to his feet and uncapped Riptide just in time to deflect an attack by her dagger. A blurred flash of gold to his left caught his attention and came to the quick realization Annabeth had slipped behind him. He ducked to avoid her inevitable dagger strike and turned to face her but she had been expecting that, a cold burn ignited on his cheek as the dagger slashed a lengthy cut just below his eye. His own blood misted over the left part of his face. Percy snarled in surprise, feeling the warm trickling of the crimson fluid ooze down his cheek. Partly blinded because of the bloody mist, he thrust his sword in the directing he thought he had seen her but met only air. Part of him was relieved because he didn't really want to hurt her but the other part was angry for she wouldn't stop this unless she couldn't fight anymore and his anger was taking over. A foot kicked him in the stomach as he stood, making him double over. He was dimly aware of the Thalias, Grovers, his counterparts, and to his surprise even the Annabeths screaming at them to stop. Percy wiped the blood out of his left eye and he caught sight of Annabeth charging at him just in time to roll out of her path. As she ran past him he managed retaliate and gave her a deep cut on her thigh, she growled and stumbled before falling on her hands and knees. A voice inside Percy's head screamed at him to go help her, but his anger butted in, blinding him of all reason, and yelled: CHAAAARGE!!!!!

He raised Riptide and bolted at her, his eyes met hers but all he could see was anger. A few feet from her he started to bring his sword down to deliver the blow and something surprised him, a small smirk twitched at her lips and a new emotion entered her eyes: Sadness.

This confused Percy, but now that his blow was in motion he couldn't take it back. Suddenly she shot up and slammed into his chest, Riptide was knocked from his hands and clattered to the floor feet away. Percy had the air knocked out of him once again as Annabeth pinned him on his back to the floor. She glared angrily down at him, but the anger was slowly fading into hurt. Her face was red with fury or at least Percy had thought until a small tear slowly trailed down her cheek, "My answer still remains as yes," She said through clenched teeth, softly enough to where only he could hear, "For if I hadn't had stopped you, you would have carried through that blow and you know it. Your anger is going to kill someone one day, Seaweed Brain, like me."

Percy's heart nearly stopped, every word was true and he knew it in his heart but I wasn't going to let it show. He glared back at her, "Are you kidding?" He hissed, "You attacked me, how was I supposed to react? Not to mention you nearly took my eye out!"

"You provoked me and I almost did but I didn't and I made sure I wouldn't. While you were huddled over on the ground favoring your cheek I had PLEANTY of opportunities to kill you but I didn't. First sign of weakness I showed you. . .you tried to bring the killing blow." She choked on the last part of her sentence, she drew her eyes away from him and glared at the ground. For a moment she closed them to control her anger, clutching her dagger. Taking a deep breath she growled and brought the dagger down centimeters from Percy's head who yelped in surprise, shards of white marble hit his cheek harmlessly. She opened her eyes, her face an inch away from his, "Now stay the Hades away from me," She snarled as another tear trickled down her face, "Just stay far away from me."

With that she roughly withdrew her dagger from within the floor and rose off of Percy. She turned away from the rest of the group determined for them not to see her face and walked off, she didn't look back. Percy laid on the floor for many minutes afterward, taking in everything that had just taken place. The group watched him before Thalia (TLO) walked over to him, "Bravo, Kelp Head." She growled.

"Don't talk to me, Pinecone Face." Percy snapped.

"Don't get mad at me! This is your own fault."

Percy sat up, "IT'S ALWAYS MY FAULT!"

"Listen, when you get that spike out of your butt come and talk to me, until then? Watch your tongue." She marched off as the rest of the group began to disperse. Some of the Annabeths went off in the same direction of their older counterpart and the others went off in the directions of the beds. The Thalias and Grovers went off to the beds as well but the Percys remained. Percy (TLO) didn't feel like talking to them since the events of the evening. What Annabeth had said played in his mind over and over, he wanted to go and talk to her but she told him to stay away. Now wouldn't be the best time. His counterpart from The Battle of the Labyrinth stood over him and the others soon followed, "Um, we are going to go off to bed."

"You don't need to tell me," Percy (TLO) muttered.

The other Percys all looked at each other uncomfortably before walking off. Percy groaned as soon as they left, leaving him alone in the Throne Room. Slowly he looked at the monitor, he stood and turned it on. There was a flicker and the screen came to life with an image of his older self taking care of his unconscious mother. For an hour or so he watched them, his older self coming and going as he brought supplies back to a devastated house where they had found refuge. Before Percy turned off the monitor, he caught his older self holding a bloodstained dagger, Annabeth's dagger, fingering it gently and humming something softly like a lullaby. It had been Annabeth who they had been talking about and for Percy (TLO) that was a hard pill to swallow. As much as they disagreed and fought and even with the events of the evening he couldn't bare to loose her. Now he was going to have to come to terms with the knowledge that he looses Annabeth in the future in about a years' time and that he does have feelings for her, something he has been fighting for a while. As his older counterpart fell asleep, Percy turned off the monitor. He walked from the Throne Room, into the courtyard where the  moon showed high for it was around midnight, and to the beds in the guest part of Olympus. Walking down the hall of bedrooms he finally found his own, slowly he cracked the door to find a lamp light was already turned on. Percy frowned and edged inside, anger from before seethed inside him and he glared with stormy eyes, "I thought you wanted me to stay far away from you."

Annabeth was sat on the bed, she bit her lip, "I need to talk to you."
